General Information & Sale Notes Location: The Sale will be held at the Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle, Cumbria situated close to the M6 Junction 43. Motorists (from north or south) should leave the Motorway at this Junction and turn west towards Carlisle on the A69. The Mart is within1/4 mile of the Motorway (filter left at the traffic lights) on the Rosehill Industrial Estate. Timetable of Events:

Method and Order of Sale: All animals will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order unless any alteration is authorised and announced by the Auctioneers. Conditions Of Sale: The Sale is held subject to the Auctioneers General Terms and Conditions of Sale (printed in this catalogue) and to the Auction Rules and Conditions of Sale from respective Breed Societies. The latter Conditions are not so printed but will be displayed in the Sale Premises and available to those purchasers who require them, in booklet form. Settlement And Clearance Of Stock: Settlement in full is due to the Auctioneers immediately at the conclusion of the Sale. No animal may leave the Sale Premises without an official PASS, obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement and all stock should be cleared from the sale premises on the day of the sale. Pedigree Transfers: Cattle in the sale are registered with the respective breed societies and will be officially transferred and pedigrees for all these animals will be effected by the Auctioneers and the Society as soon as possible after the sale - free of expense to the Purchasers. Commissions: The Auctioneers will faithfully execute commissions to purchase on behalf of buyers unable to attend the sale in person upon receipt of written notice and instructions received in their office not later than 48 hours before commencement of sale. Given the same notice telephone bids can be accommodated. Insurance: Facilities will be available (through H&H Insurance Brokers Ltd.) for buyers to insure their animals for transit and other risks, from the fall of the hammer. All statements in the catalogue are made on the responsibility of the vendor
TB PRE-MOVEMENT TESTING All cattle over the age of 41 days moving out of yearly testing herds must be pre-movement tested within 60 days prior to sale. A completed veterinary TB Test Report (TB52) or a veterinary certificate must also accommpany the animals to the market as confirmation of test.

Notice to all Visitors and Traders Please read and observe the following: • Excessive dirty vehicles will not be allowed entry, therefore ensure vehicle is clean before arrival. • All vehicles transporting livestock will be subject to a documentation check before entry to market site. • All visitors and traders must ensure they wear clean clothing and footwear before entering market site. • All visitors and traders using car park areas please use main entrance. • All persons delivering livestock to mart must park on the hardcore area at the back of the site and then proceed along the designated route to the biosecurity control next to the supervisors office. • Hauliers and farmers delivering livestock must disinfect their boots before and after loading or unloading. • Livestock purchased or unsold will not be allowed to move unless an authorised “pass slip” has been issued by the main office. • No livestock will be allowed to remain on the premises after a sale. • Only staff, livestock hauliers, owners or their agents are permitted to load or unload livestock. • Wash hands thoroughly when leaving livestock pennage areas. • Please observe our staff’s instructions at all times.

SALE FROM THE KEDAR HERD On behalf for T Lochhead & Sons, Dumfries Introduction In 2002 the Kedar Brown Swiss herd was established when Gavin & Jonny Lochhead restocked with the best cattle they could source from Germany and Switzerland. The Lochhead family have farmed at Beyond the Burn Farm since the 1920’s and have been breeding Brown Swiss cattle for almost thirty years, with much success winning National titles at a number of the UK’s leading dairy events. In recent months cattle numbers at Kedar have surpassed 400 purely down to the durability and fertility of these super cows. This sale gives you a wonderful opportunity to invest in top quality Brown Swiss cattle. Sale Animals The sale comprises 30 Quality heifers, 10 Super in-calf heifers & 20 young maiden heifers. Currently the herd is averaging 7,625kgs 4.03% 3.67%. When dairy producers say they want animals that tick all the boxes these heifers really do: ☑ High Production ☑ High Protein ☑ Fantastic Feet ☑ Long Lasting ☑ Fertility ☑ Quiet to milk In-Calf Heifers This is a special group of well grown heifers with powerful frames and all display exceptional udder promise. They are in calf to Kedar Hotstuff a Nelgor son bred from Kedar Vigor Heike who was Reserve All Britain 2nd Calver in 2013 and placed 2nd Mature Cow at UK Dairy Expo this year, she recently classified Excellent 93 in her fifth lactation and is currently one the highest producing cows in the herd. Kedar Archie Gill is one of the stars in this group bred from a VG89 Driver dam, Excellent 93 Emerald grand dam with over 50 ton and then the Excellent 96 Kedar Seattle Glenda now with over 80 ton lifetime and has been classified Excellent seven times. Glenda was Grand Champion at the Dairy Event in 2009 and was Reserve Champion at UK Dairy Day in 2014. Kedar Present Rhyme is bred from one the hottest Brown Swiss cow families in the breed for udders known as the ‘Reia cow family’ She is sister to Kedar Archie Reia who was 3rd 3yr old at UK Dairy Expo in 2015 and sold in the Kedar sale in 2015 for 2,500gns.

Maiden Heifers These special young heifers offer breeders and milk producers a wonderful opportunity to invest in top quality Brown Swiss genetics from proven cow families and all sired by the top type sires available. Kedar Nelgor Ulala is sired by Nelgor and bred from the 2010 Reserve Agriscot Champion Kedar Zola Ulla now classified VG88 with butterfat over 5% and protein over 4%. This young heifer will be an exciting addition to any show string this year. Kedar Vigor Coco Bean has a number of big time cows in her pedigree with EX93 and EX95 pointed cows with massive lifetime yields. This is the same line as the 2014 Junior Champion heifer at UK Dairy Expo Kedar SGB Cinderella . One of the stars in the 2015 Kedar sale was Kedar Goldwyn Christina a VG87 heifer who sold for 4,100gns. Selling from this special line of cows is Kedar Super Nova Crumpet bred from an Excellent sister to the dam of the Goldwyn. This is the youngest heifer in the sale and has massive show potential. Why Brown Swiss The Brown Swiss breed is one of the world’s leading breeds of milking cows, particularly where the primary market for milk is manufacture of cheese, so milk producers on cheese contracts please take note. They are known for their exceptional feet and legs and powerfully built frames and well attached udders and quiet temperaments. They are long lasting animals milking for many lactations and are famous for their natural grazing instinct and efficient conversion of forage. Herd Management This outstanding herd of Brown Swiss are Organic and are managed completely on an Organic ration. To fulfil the criteria of full organic milk the ration as well as being made from only organic ingredients has to be 70% forage. The TMR is mostly grass silage with straw and dairy blend. A pellet is fed during milking in the robot. The herd is grazed from the start of April until late autumn and are housed in cubicles during the winter months. Herd Health The ‘Kedar’ herd is in a four year TB testing area and was last tested 2nd February 2015. In-calf heifers are vaccinated for IBR (marker vaccine), Lepto and BVD. Bulling age heifers have been vaccinated with IBR (marker vaccine.) The herd is monitored clear of BVD, young-stock are blood tested from each young stock group each year to make sure of no BVD PI’s are in the herd and none have ever been found. They are also vaccinated with Rispoval 3 and Huskvac. All animals are eligible for export to N.Ireland & Rep. of Ireland.
