General Information & Sale Notes
Location: The sale will be held at Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle, Cumbria. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and turn west towards Carlisle on the A69. Borderway Mart will be found within 1/4 mile of the Motorway Junction on the left hand side of the main road (filter left at the first traffic lights).

Conditions of Sale: All cattle are sold subject to the Auction Rules and Conditions of Sale from respective Breed Societies. These Rules and Conditions are not printed in this catalogue but will be displayed at the sale premises and available for inspection.
Method and Order of Sale: All cattle will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order, unless any alteration is authorised and announced by the Auctioneers. A 5.5% commission is charged.
Settlement and Clearance of Stock:
Settlement in full is due to the Auctioneers immediately at the close of the sale. No animal may be removed from the sale premises without an official pass obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement. All animals should be cleared from the sale premises on the day of sale.
Payment terms for Embryos: Full payment is required by purchaser on sale day.
Pedigree Transfers: Official transfer of pedigrees will be effected by the Auctioneers and the Breed Society as soon as possible after the sale, at the vendor‘s expense.
Milking Out: All cows and heifers will be milked out after they have passed through the sale ring. The attention of purchasers is drawn to the terms of the udder warranty under which any complaint regarding udders must be made to the Auctioneers within one hour of the close of the sale.
Insurance: Facilities will be available at the sale for buyers to insure their stock, for transit and other risks, from the fall of the hammer, through H&H Insurance Brokers.
Reserve Bids: All Lots sell subject to the vendor’s Reserve Bid.
Commissions & Telephone Bids:
The Auctioneers will faithfully execute commissions to purchase on behalf of potential buyers unable to attend the sale in person, upon receipt of written instructions and banker’s reference received in their office not less than 48 hours before commencement of sale. Given these terms and conditions, telephone bids can be accommodated and any buyer wishing to make a telephone bid is requested to make the necessary arrangements with the Auctioneers in advance of the sale.

Exports: Currently animals in GB are not eligible for export. Heifers from Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland are eligible for export to GB.

● Excessive dirty vehicles will not be allowed entry, therefore ensure vehicle is clean before arrival.
● All vehicles transporting livestock will be subject to a documentation check before entry to market site.
● All visitors and traders must ensure they wear clean clothing and footwear before entering market site.
● All visitors and traders using car park areas please use main entrance.
● All persons delivering livestock to mart must park on the hardcore area at the back of the site and then proceed along the designated route to the biosecurity control next to the supervisors office.
● Hauliers and farmers delivering livestock must disinfect their boots before and after loading or unloading.
● Livestock purchased or unsold will not be allowed to move unless an authorised “pass slip” has been issued by the main office.
● No livestock will be allowed to remain on the premises after a sale.
● Only staff, livestock hauliers, owners or their agents are permitted to load or unload livestock.
● Wash hands thoroughly when leaving livestock pennage areas.
● Please observe our staff’s instructions at all times.

Foreword
I was given two pieces of advice when I started buying into elite pedigrees. Firstly, always buy the very best embryos you can afford and secondly to always sell your very best. Hopefully this catalogue demonstrates that both those pieces of advice have been taken on board.
My first Holstein purchase was Lillyhall Mahogany Rox Red purchased from the Harpers in the 2014 Black and White Sale. She was a lucrative purchase with her progeny and embryos selling well. She went on to classify EX90 and has two EX94 daughters, her great granddaughter sells in the sale.
I firmly believe in the power of partnerships within this industry. No partnership has yielded more success for us than the one developed with Absolute Genetics and Graham Kirby. Our first animal marketed together was Auchensala Adeles Doorman Ava EX90 who has developed into a 4-star brood cow with over 40 daughters. She provided us with the confidence to grow the partnership into daughters of Miss Apple Snapple and most recently into the purchase of a daughter of Blondin RD Unstopabull Maple EX94 alongside our friends at Hodglynn Holsteins. Hodglynn Altitude Madison VG87 features heavily in this catalogue with her red Ambrose daughter selling as lot 1. One of our proudest moments was when she won her class at the 2024 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.
I have made many friends through the pedigree industry, too many to mention in this short preface, however I would like to thank Wille Fleming and family at Hillhead. From supplying recipients to accommodating calves, his hospitality is greatly appreciated.

THE MAGIC OF MAPLE
Kirby tours 2013 took us to the Royal in Toronto. I remember a pretty nice Red and White 3 yr called Lochdale Shaquille Missy EX-93 2E that was 1st 3yr and intermediate champion Red and White. Little did I know that she would become the Grand Dam of possibly the greatest Red and White of all time – BLONDIN RD UNSTOPABULL MAPLE EX-94 4YR
Maple was to take her turn at the Royal in 2021 when she was shown as a second calf snr 2yr winning the Red and Whites and repeating her success the following day in the Black and White ring.
She was due with her 3rd calf at the end of Aug 2022 with numerous interested parties keen on purchasing her from Adam and Jess Hodgins.
Adam had a sale booked for 25 June that year with a first choice Altitude selling from Maple. It was at this point I spoke to Brian Carscadden. I asked him “how does Maple look” He replied “Incredible”. That was it, I had to have one of her daughters!
Maple would be sold to a group of breeders in the USA and would travel to Madison as a 3rd calf Sn 3yr. Ali Cook and I purchased Hodglynn Altitude Madison with Adam retaining an interest. Maple would compete in the Black and White section. She was 1st Sn 3yr, Intermediate champion and Reserve Grand. She then came to Toronto in November and swept all before her in both the Red and Whites and the Black and Whites. She Was INVINCIBLE – THE GREATEST.
A few weeks after the Royal Maple was tragically lost. Our Altitude daughter calved in and went VG-87 2yr. She followed in her mother’s footsteps winning the 2yr class at the Royal in 2024. She’s due with her second calf this summer.
