Complete Dispersal of the Autumn Calving Porton from the BLELACK HERD At 50 and neither of my children wanting to farm I decided last year that change was required. We sold our Charolais Herd, our Shorthorn Herd and the Matron Portion of our Angus Herd in what turned out to be an extraordinary success with our top lot Blelack Earline and her son Lord Easton selling for 45,000gns. Our cattle found homes from the Orkney Isles to the south of England and Ireland. I decided to calve in the spring thus the sale of our Autumn calvers has come about. These cows represent some of Blelack's very best families and are an excellent example of our cattle. Their calves which are a super group have been spent and retained. My father, Neil, started the Blelack Angus herd around 50 years ago where it has become the most successful herd ever at the Perth and now Stirling sales, with 13 Overall Champions and many sectional Champions – many, many more than any other herd in the history of the breed. We have calved our heifers at 2 years old for over 20 years. The cows and heifers forward were all out wintered on ammonia treated straw and silage before calving. Blelack goes from 750 to 1000ft. We felt that the Angus breed has a great future and hope you find something that will push forward your own breeding programme in this catalogue. Graeme Massie Herd Health Status: - Herd last tested clear from TB in 2016 - Currently on a 4 year TB testing interval - Member of Biobest Herdcare - Herd testing for BVD (a cow bought into the herd was carrying a PI so we have lost our long standing BVD Accredited status therefore all cows are now tested free of BVD) - Routinely vaccinating against BVD - Routinely vaccinating against Lepto - Johnes Risk Status Level 3 (having sold over 200 cows with no Johnes problems we had one reactor from an ET Charolais cow and have been put to level 3 from level 1 . All cows are tested clear.)
Reference to Sires Blelack Blackgem G721 – this Defiance bred son was the best performing bull at Blelack that year. Only used a little before selling him, but he left some excellent progeny. Blelack Blackstock A227 – still the best breeding bull from Blelack. His daughters are breeders of the top order, cows with power, meat and style, will calve easily and rear a calf worth having. His sons have sold to 25,000gns and 19,000gns. A son, Evergreat, was used on heifers. Blelack Duke J262 – his mother, ONeills Delia K720, is a full sister to the $150,000 ONeills Expedition. Two sons were retained and a half share of Blelack Black Blockbuster who was sold to Haymount. Duke has a very interesting pedigree and breeds very well.
8
Blelack Egotist K531 – used as a 13 month old calf on heifers and then he went on to win Overall Champion at Royal Highland Show at 24 months. He leaves exceptional shape and cattle with great power and tops. Producing several top priced bulls between 8000gns to 10,000gns. Blelack Equity J127 – his dam, Eyrie, calved Equity aged 22 months and reared him as the heaviest calf. Eyrie, who sold for the UK record price of 32,000gns, is also the mother of Egotist. Equity has bred sons which have sold to 15,000gns, also Weeton Eyrie N376 who also sold for 15,000gns. Equity has been used on heifers and found he calved easily. Blelack Kanasta Lad G191 – out of the excellent Karama family who bred Blelack Krackerjack Lad selling for 15,000gns to Kincardine Castle. Kanasta was a very long stylish bull. Blelack Prince Consort A286 – where ever this bull has been used he has done well, breeding really good cows and top selling sons. Haymount Waverlo N833 – is shared with the Tonley Herd. He leaves fantastic faces on his calves. A daughter sold in the Blelack Herd Sale Oct 2016 for 11,000gns. Nightingale Defiance E264 – has bred sons selling to 10,000gns and has left some good breeding cows with plenty of milk within the Blelack Herd. Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 (ET) – this now famous bull bred well for the Blelack Herd, especially onto the herds Blackstock daughters with sons selling at 25,000gns for the Stirling Overall Champion Lord Hidalgo and a daughter at 15,000gns for Blelack Lady Heather. Peter Pershore has left his mark on the breed. With no semen left, some of his genetics will only enhance a herd. Weeton Estimator L320 – a very meaty well-made bull out of the famous Royal Eston Anne. His full sister sold for 6000gns at the Weeton Sale. Estimator was used on the herds heifers where he left some excellent young cows and sold a bull to Rulesmains. He was found to be very easily calved. Warrenho Emperor M425 – purchased for 10,000gns in partnership with the Tonley Herd. A large proportion of the Blelack foundation females are by him and are very fleshy with lots of style and power. His first son sold for 10,000gns.
WARRENHO EMPEROR M425 semen now taken, available from N. Wattie, Tonley Herd
