GENERAL INFORMATION & SALE NOTES LOCATION: The Sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle Cumbria. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6. Timetable of Events:Thursday 15th October

CONDITIONS OF SALE: This sale is held under the British Limousin Cattle Society’s Auction Sale Rules and subject to recommended Conditions of Sale of the National Beef Association (NBA). This sale is held subject to these rules and the Auctioneers’ General Conditions of Sale, both available on request. In the event of any discrepancy between the two sets of conditions, the NBA Conditions of Sale shall prevail To access the NBA Society Terms and Conditions of Sale, please head to https://www.nationalbeefassociation.com/resources/nba-terms-conditions-of-sale/ INSURANCE: A representative of the H&H Insurance Brokers, will be present at the sale and will be pleased to quote Purchasers for transit and other risks. METHOD OF SALE: All cattle will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order, unless any alteration is announced by the Auctioneers. COMMISSIONS: The Auctioneers will dutifully execute commissions to purchase for buyers unable to attend the sale personally, upon receipt of written instructions. REGISTRATIONS: All stock in the Sale are registered with the British Limousin Cattle Society (Tel 02476 696500). PEDIGREE TRANSFERS: Official Pedigree Transfers will be effected by the Auctioneers and the British Limousin Cattle Society as soon as possible after the Sale. Full Pedigrees will be transferred free of charge to all members. SETTLEMENT AND CLEARANCE OF STOCK: Settlement in full is due immediately at the close of Sale. No animal may leave the Sale Premises without an official ‘Pass Slip’, obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement. Purchasers unable to remove their stock on the day of sale can arrange overnight accommodation with the Auctioneers on the understanding that all cattle are at Purchasers’ risk. ANIMAL WELFARE: Vendors and Purchasers should note the CODE OF PRACTICE published by the Livestock Auctioneers’ Market Committee for England and Wales IS OPERATIVE IN BORDERWAY MART and that weakly, unhealthy or injured stock will be refused entry by the Auctioneers. Enquiries should be directed through the market office to the Auctioneers’ ANIMAL HEALTH & WELFARE OFFICER (Mr Andrew Templeton).

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO VENDORS & PURCHASERS The full Auction Rules of the BLCS can be viewed in the Society’s Byelaws and on the website www.limousin.co.uk. A paper copy can be made available upon request to the BLCS office. All females entered for Official Society breeders’, production, reduction, weaned calf and dispersal sales are subject to an identity check only by a Society appointed inspector. Animals will be subject to an identity check (tag inspection) only which will take place in the pen. By way of clarification, there will be no veterinary inspection either in the crush or in the pen. Weaned calves are defined as animals of either sex born within the twelve calendar months preceding the sale date. Please ensure all cattle passport documentation is handed to the Market Sales Office upon arrival. Failure to do so or if for any reason the paperwork does not correspond to the cattle being offered for sale, such animals will be not be put forward for the auction. The proceeds of sale are guaranteed by the Auctioneers, however, this does not extend to the animals sold for export, to which special conditions apply. UPSET PRICES - There is no upset price for females entered into this sale. RESERVE PRICES - Vendors shall have the right to refuse to accept the final bid for their animals. The auctioneers reserve the right to charge half commission on the amount of the final bid in the case of animals which fail to reach the Vendors reserve price. All animals will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and a commission of 5.25% will be charged by the Auctioneers on all sales. A further levy of 1.5% will be charged and paid to the British Limousin Cattle Society. No animal may be sold privately before being passed through the auction ring and full commission will be charged on the sale of any animal sold by private treaty after the auction. All such transactions must be passed through the auctioneers office. NBA WARRANTIES - This Sale is also held subject to the Special Terms and Conditions of Sale recommended for Sales of Pedigree Beef Cattle by the National Beed Association. The preparation of these Terms and Conditions has proved a lengthy and costly process and, in order to defray the legal and other costs involved, and to provide a continuing source of revenue to assist the Association in its vital work for Pedigree Cattle Breeders, the Council of the Association has decided that a special levy, amounting to £10 + VAT per Bull (£5 paid by vendor & £5 paid by purchaser) and £10 + VAT per Female (£5 paid by vendor & £5 paid by purchaser) as of the 1st of May 2025 STRAW - A limited amount of bedding straw will be provided. TEAGUE DISPERSAL SALE FOREWORD Due to retirement, the dispersal of the JF & MB Teague, Buteland Farm Limousin Herd. A well-established Limousin herd, which has been a member of the SRUC Health Scheme and is Johne’s Level 2 accredited. The herd has been carefully maintained primarily to breed Limousin stock bulls for our own herd of Limousin × commercial cows. Our commercial store calves have regularly achieved top prices at Lanark and United Auctions, Stirling. Surplus Limousin bulls have also been sold successfully to local breeders over the years. This is an opportunity to acquire cattle from a herd with a strong emphasis on soundness, performance and breeding quality, backed by a proven commercial pedigree. LOT

A Myostatin genotype is a further bit of information that may help your decision, but it should be used in conjunction with wider information such as Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs), which bring together information of actual performance from the animal itself, its herdmates and its relatives to predict genetic merit, and your own judgment on type and pedigree. 3 Genetic Colour 3.

Colour and polled/horned genes typically come in pairs called alleles. One is inherited from the sire and one from the dam. Where an animal’s alleles are the same, it is said to be ‘Homozygous’ (Hom.) Where the alleles are different (because there is more than one variant of the gene, the animal is said to be ‘Heterozygous’ (Het.) “Hom. Red” – animals will be red and will pass on red genes. “Hom. Black” – animals will be black and will pass on black genes. All calves will be black, since black colour genes are dominant. “Het. Black” – animals will be black and will pass on either a red or black gene. “Het. Red” – animals will be red and will pass on a red gene or a colour gene known as the ‘wild type’ that is non-colour determinate. (The coat colour of calves inheriting the wild type gene will be governed by the gene they inherit from the other parent. It is rare, but it is also possible for an animal to be homozygous for the wild type gene, in which case they will be reddish/brown to brownish/black).

A bull that is “Hom. Polled” - will be polled himself and all calves will be polled (since he only has polled genes to pass on and they are dominant). A bull that is “Het. Polled” – will be polled himself and will produce some polled and some horned calves (assuming the cows are all horned). A bull that is “Hom. 39 Herd Health at British Limousin Cattle Society Sales

The BLCS Bull sale on Saturday the 17th of October 2026 is a PREMIER sale. The BLCS Female sale on Friday the 16th of October 2026 is a BREEDERS sale. Premier Collective and Collective Sales and Society Sale of Weaned Calves (Carlisle, December). Introduction Herd health rules were introduced by the BLCS at Premier Collective and Collective Sales and the Society Sale of Weaned Calves (Carlisle, December) to standardise herd health declarations and information presented in order to provide both members and customers with clear, accurate herd health information at the point of sale and within the given sale catalogue. As such it is attractive and informative for customers and aims to further raise the level of buyer conﬁdence. BLCS Premier Collective Sales are Stirling February (bulls) & October (bulls); Carlisle February (bulls), May (bulls), October (bulls) & December (Red Ladies sale); Brecon May (bulls) & November (bulls). BLCS Collective Sales are Ballymena February (bulls), May (bulls) & October (bulls); Stirling May (bulls); Carlisle June (bulls). Part 1. Herds selling at the Premier Collective Sales, Collective Sales and the Society Sale of Weaned Calves (Carlisle, December) have to be members of, and adhering to, the terms of a CHeCS approved Herd Health Scheme and at a minimum they must have had a whole herd test for Johne’s Disease with a CHeCS approved Herd Health Scheme and must be a Johne’s Risk Level 1*- 4. Part 2. All animals male and female, including calves at foot, presented at the Premier Collective and Collective Sales are required to be EITHER from a BVD Accredited Herd within a CHeCS approved Herd Health Scheme OR to have been BVD tested virus free. Pregnant animals must have had testing and any vaccination completed prior to service. Vaccination of calves at foot to be in accordance with CHeCS guidelines and recommendations. For the Society Sale of Weaned Calves (Carlisle, December), calves are not required to be vaccinated for BVD. Calves from non-BVD accredited herds are required to have been BVD tested virus free. Calves from BVD Accredited Herds are not required to have been BVD tested virus free. Herd Health Declaration The sale entry form is accompanied by a Herd Health Declaration form asking vendors questions for example: TB status; membership of CHeCS (www.checs.co.uk) health schemes (AFBI Cattle Health Scheme, HiHealth Herdcare (Biobest), & Premium Cattle Health Scheme (SRUC) and Johne’s, BVD, IBR and Lepto status. Online entries also require the Herd Health Declaration form to be completed. Is the Herd Health Declaration compulsory? The Herd Health Declaration is compulsory at all Premier Collective and Collective Sales and the Society Sale of Weaned Calves (Carlisle, December). For reasons of clarity and to provide purchasers with the most accurate information available, vendors are required to complete this at time of entry.

40 What other health information may be displayed? It should be noted that the Herd Health information provided in the catalogue relates to whole herd status. Information relating to speciﬁc animals entered in the sale should be requested from the vendor. Vendors are encouraged to apply to their respective CHeCS health scheme for individual animal health cards for display on pens. For an individual animal’s test results, or vaccination histories, regarding BVD, IBR, Lepto or Johne’s, these are permitted above the sale pens only upon presentation of a signed veterinary declaration to verify that the animal concerned has had a clear test. The Society has requested that no declarations on health information be given by the auctioneer during the sale. Again, the sole purpose of this is to avoid confusion and to try and ensure that the information provided is done accurately, fairly and in a standardised format in the catalogue. This point has been agreed with the auctioneers. Johne’s Risk Levels It is a condition of BLCS Premier Collective and Collective Sales and the Society Sale of Weaned Calves (Carlisle, December) that animals from herds that are Johnes Risk Level 5 are not permitted to be sold. What if a vendor is selling an animal/s that is not home bred or born on another holding? Vendors are still requested to ﬁll in the Herd Health Sale Declaration accordingly. Prospective customers are still advised to speak to vendors directly regarding additional health information available. The herd an animal is sold from must have had a whole herd test, for Johne’s disease through a CHeCS licenced scheme and in adherence with that scheme’s terms. Animals may not be sold at Society Premier Collective and Collective Sales and the Society Sale of Weaned Calves (Carlisle, December) sale, if the herd of origin (i.e. the holding where the calf was born) has no Johne’s status or a status of Risk Level 5. Any animal bred by a person other than the vendor or born on a holding separate to the vendor’s main herd will have the Johne’s status of the herd/holding of origin at the time of sale stated in the sale catalogue, along with the Johne’s status of the vendor’s herd. The catalogue will indicate who bred the animal if it has not been bred by the vendor. These measures comply with the requirements of CHeCS and the information must be provided by the vendor upon entry of an animal to a sale. What if a vendor is selling an animal/s managed on a holding other than the vendors? Any animal that has been managed on a holding other than the vendor’s immediately prior to sale will have the Johne’s status of that holding stated in the sale catalogue along with the Johne’s status of the vendor’s herd. These measures comply with the requirements of CHeCS and the information must be provided by the vendor upon entry of an animal to a sale.
