Requirements

• A personal request letter addressed to the Director of NIMH • A request letter from the institute addressed to the director of NIMH (If applying through an institute) • An approval letter from Education, Training and Research Unit of Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka (From 1st of September 2022) or an approval granted to the institute from Ministry of Health ETR

Unit • Curriculum vitae of the applicant

***Once completed documents are sent, a date and time for the interview will be informed to students via email/mobile

Granting period of Observership

• Mphil /Masters students in UGC recognized institutes-For 6months • Undergraduate Degree/Diploma Students from UGC recognized institutes-For 3months • Other students-For 1month

✓ Smart casual dress code within the institute is mandatory. ✓ Working hours of the institute is 8.00am-4.00pm ✓ Students must be present for minimum of 3 days a week. ✓ Leaves should be informed to the relevant supervisor and to the Training Unit. ✓ If a student is absent for 3 days or more without prior notice, their training will be terminated. ✓ Students will be allocated to acute and chronic wards under the supervision of a Consultant

Psychiatrist and will be placed in a rotation in 5 specialized units of NIMH. ✓ All students must sign in the attendance book maintained in the Training Unit. ✓ Total number of trainings will be calculated based on the attendance. ✓ All students must maintain the logbook provided at the beginning of the Observership. o Students granted Observership for 3months or more need to complete 10 case studies. o Students granted observership for 1month need to complete 3 case studies. ✓ Logbook should be completed at the end of the observership and handed over to Training Unit to obtain the letter of completion

If a student needs an extension of the granted period, written permission from the supervising consultant should be taken in the space provided in the logbook
