As we approached the summer season, we had difficulty in securing certified lifeguards. Tanglwood was not alone in that regard. The insurance carrier for the community informed me many of their clients experienced the same problems with respect to staffing. On the advice of the TLCA insurance carrier, signs were posted on the beach property informing the members that there are no lifeguards on duty, swim at your own risk. We additionally sent out an email blast informing the members in advance.
Please remember to have your current vehicle identification on your vehicle when accessing the beach property or at any Tanglwood amenity.

The Board approved the installation of 16 video cameras at the beach property; the footage can be viewed remotely. In addition, the Board approved the installation of a gate access system at the entrance and exit side of this property. The members will be provided with access fobs for the entrance side and the exit will be an automatic open once the vehicle approaches the gate. The upper boundary of the property will be lined with boulders and or post rail fencing to prevent unauthorized access. We are investigating the possibility of installing a fence between the TLCA Property and Pinecrest Marina to ensure only members and their authorized guest use this amenity. The property has been surveyed to clearly identify the boundary lines. The Boardapproved budget for this project is $20,000.00 pending a review by the Legal and Budget & Finance Committees.
We received one bid for the sediment removal from Lake Tanglwood. There were four contractors that attended the pre-construction meeting. The budget allocation for this project is $150,000.00 which is front loaded with attorney’s fees, planning and permitting. The actual work is scheduled to start in early September to not interfere with use of our lake by members. The plan is to remove approximately 2,000 cubic yards of sediment during this initial phase. The sediment will be stored on property during the dewatering process.
We continue to experience an increase in property sales in the community. The Welcome Committee scheduled three new owner meetings to update new owners on community issues. There has been a marked increase in permit requests that include new sheds, garages, vinyl siding, painting, deck extensions and patios. Please contact the Chalet should you be considering any improvements to the outside of your property to ascertain what permits may be required. You should also contact Palmyra Township at [570-226-2230] as the township may require a permit for work being considered.
We have received many requests from members to remove trees on their property. The Building Code Committee reviews all requests for the removal of trees. You should be aware that the removal of the native, preferred hardwood trees or trees greater than 6 inches [diameter at breast height] without a TLCA permit is strictly prohibited. The reference for the removal of trees may be found in Section [106] of the Rules and Regulations for the community.
The Board approved a recommendation for the placement of dock hardware on dock slips on Lake Wallenpaupack. The approved guidelines are available at the Chalet for review. Please make sure that you follow the approved guidelines to avoid damage to the dock slips.
The Board approved the sale of a Tanglwood property, lot 450, on Shady Glen Lane. An email blast was sent to the members requesting any interested party submit a sealed bid for the property. The upset price for bid was $8,000.00. I am working with our road paving contractor regarding the paving partnership with Aqua. Once the water main replacement is completed, the paving contractor will be able to pave over the roads with a single lane pave.
The office received complaints regarding open burning on property. The Rules and Regulations in Section [218] states the following: Open fires for any purpose are strictly prohibited. Small, selfcontained, low flame fires in off the ground fire containers sold for the purpose of recreational fires only are permitted. Must have screen cover. A 6 foot gravel buffer is required around the fire container. An adult shall be present at all times during burning of a recreational fire. A fire extinguishing mechanism shall be within reach of a recreational fire at all times.
The fine for a first offense is $300.00. A TLCA permit is required prior to the construction of a fire pit. The budget process for the 2022 budget year is underway. The committee chairpersons have been informed to provide budget requests to the Treasurer for review by the Budget and Finance Committee. This process will be ongoing throughout the summer.
A zoning hearing has been scheduled for July 14, 2021 to address a variance for the newly proposed maintenance garage. The garage is a sixty foot long, forty foot wide facility that will be used to store equipment to prolong the lifespan of the equipment and keep the it out of the winter weather. This item was approved in the 2021 budget. The garage will be set next to the existing maintenance facility.
The membership can now use the fitness center during regular hours 7:30am to 9pm. The center was back to its normal hours on June 28, 2021. Enjoy the remainder of the summer, please watch for walkers and joggers on our roadways and obey the posted speed limit.
