From You r Boa r d Of Dir ec tor s BY JAMES YANDO I hope everyone is staying warm and doing their best to get through these long winter days. I’m sure by the time this article is published, we will all be looking forward to Spring and what follows. I would like to take the opportunity to mention the great job PFCC staff is doing for our association. The Holiday Party, Santa Brunch, New Year’s Day Brunch, Trivia Night and Valentine’s Weekend were all a great success! I encourage you to come out and enjoy the activities and experience the fun and social aspects of our great community. I’ve always felt, every dollar you spend in our community is a dollar benefiting the health and vitality of our association. In addition, I would like to thank our committee members for their participation and volunteering their time to provide feedback, ideas and direction for Management and The Board of Directors. This year, we have three active committees, including Long Range Planning, Golf and Recreation. I recommend reviewing the committee minutes and other information on the PFCC website as a way to stay abreast of activities and progress in the community. I would especially recommend reviewing our financial statements and 2022 budget, which can provide great insight into the community’s strengths and challenges. The health of an association is directly reflective of member participation, addressing issues important to the community, diversity of ideas, short and long term planning, and socializing with members in the community. We’re very lucky to have a strong management team and staff to guide our organization and continue to build a strong foundation for the future. In closing, I wish everyone a very Happy New Year and a successful and healthy 2022.

After 18 seasons with Pocono Farms Country Club, Jen Pero – our aquatics & pool manager, will not be returning this season. Jen started as the asst. aquatics and pool manager, under our previous long time aquatics /pool manager – Paul McCrone. Jen and Paul worked together for many years until Paul retired from his summer job 5 years ago, when Jen became the Manager. Jen and Paul are both teachers which made the summer job at Pocono Farms ideal for the both of them. Not only was Jen in charge of the pool operations, she also oversaw the beach area as well. The past two seasons saw over 14,000 members and guest use the outdoor pool each year. Although COVID impacted our summer swim team program the past two seasons, Jen oversaw that as well working with the volunteers that support and do many good things for the swim team including the laps for cancer, the weekly bingo events, and the tricky tray to make our entire program as successful as it was. Pre -covid, there would be anywhere between 65 and 90 swimmers on the summer swim team. The summer swim team would practice early morning before the pool opens and then compete against other communities and their swim teams throughout the month of July, culminating with the green and white swim meet and the end of season swim team banquet. The Board and Management would like to thank Jen for her many years of service to Pocono Farms and wish her well in her future endeavors!!! 954 Route 196, Tobyhanna, PA

P u bl ic S a fet y BY ARTIE FURMAN - CMCA , AMS March is here, Winter is nearing its end and Spring with any luck will be upon us sooner than later. We have been busy through this cold season. Many of you have seen new homes being built. 6 as of this reading should be completed or nearly so. There are another 2 going up soon. Like I said - busy. The short-term rental market is going to start picking up again shortly. It doesn’t stop through Winter; it just slows down. With the warmer weather on the horizon, it just goes to reason that the STR’s will be in full swing before we know it. Short Term Rentals or as we refer to the STR’s are only growing in popularity. Those people want to come here for the same reasons that you wanted to live here. The Farms is just a nice place to come to, be it for decades or a weekend, the allure is the same. Statistically it is approximately 20% STR vs. 80% resident for fines and such. When I tell residents that they ask how can that be? Well, the types of issues are different. For STR homes, it usually is a disturbance issue, music too late or too early. Rules that a vacationer would not know. For the resident, it is more of the cosmetic. High grass, garbage issues, unregistered vehicles, more things that are long term. STR homes generally must have the eye appeal and rarely have issues that will detract from the curb appeal of the home. The other factor for that 80/20 is that is approximately 1500 homes in Pocono Farms, there are less than 10% of that number for STR homes. But as time goes on it is a fair assumption that the number will grow. That being said, my staff and I cannot be everywhere to catch all things. As much as we want to it is an impossibility. That is why I depend on all of you to do a very simple thing, see something, say something. That’s it. I cannot tell you how many after the fact conversations I that have with SERVICES residents that go something like this, “the house next to me last weekend had the music playing Otthe her first till midnight”. My response is, “this is I’m Servic es: S e ptic general hearing of it, did you call my office”? The Design, Inswould. tallation, response is no, but I thought someone

March is like Wednesday is to the rest of the work week, Hump Day. We know March has had its’ share of snowstorms, but for some reason, they always seem easier to deal with than those in January or February. I guess it’s like a glass half full observation. March allows you to see the light at the end of the tunnel and planning ahead brings more pleasant thoughts to your mind. However, when all the snow melts, you know there is a lot of clean up in your future. Remember that tire that was thrown on the side of the road just before the snowstorm? It is still there and waiting for someone to pick it up and take it away. Usually, it’s one of volunteer drivers that call something like that into our code official. Artie will then call either the township road crew or our maintenance crew. He knows exactly how to handle it. Did you ever notice how many times you took the leaves off your lawn and when the snow melts, there’s plenty more to be raked up again. It would seem like there’s some kind of 2021 reproduction going on Spring Big Bass LakeViews 5 under there. By the end of the month, some of our snowbirds will begin to get back home. We are such a small group now, that even though only a few go away for a month or two, there are very few of us to patrol the farms. In January, our volunteers drove about 102 hours. A few more drivers will help having so many of the volunteers drive many days every week. Try a few hours a month by calling the office for more information or leave a message for Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034.
R ound by R ound BY KYLE MONAHAN Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, adding 6 more weeks of winter. Can this be true? I guess we will just have to sit back and wait. The 2022 Golf season is almost here! Are you ready? Is this your year? Just because it is winter doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be thinking about golf. At this time of year, we start the idea about how we can get into shape for the upcoming season. One important reminder is flexibility, which is a must for golf. Even taking ten minutes out of each day to stretch is valuable. The more we stretch, the more we can prevent injuries. At Pocono Farms, we can help you improve your game through fitness, lessons, and of course equipment! Technology in golf has come a long way. If you are not playing a current driver or iron, you may be hurting yourself. Though a new driver could make a big difference, look at your bag and evaluate what upgrades you would like to make for the upcoming season. As a certified Callaway fitter, I would love to share my knowledge with you! Do yourself a favor and schedule a fitting with me. Now getting fit doesn’t always mean you need to purchase new clubs. In less than 30 minutes, I can adjust your current clubs to help match your swing. This will be such a game changer that will help you enjoy this game even more! This golf season I want everyone to have positive thoughts out on the course. Tell yourself you are going to make that putt. F un w it h Fitness BY KRISSIE AYLWARD, PFCCA FITNE SS DIRECTOR Zumba is back and we have some new cardio equipment as well! I took on the Zumba challenge and got certified in late November. I know that Colleen was the Zumba queen here at the Farms I can only hope to maybe be the Zumba princess as she has some big shoes to fill. Zumba is for everybody and everybody. Come dance to some fun upbeat tunes and burn a ton of calories without even realizing it! We also have two new recumbent bikes in the fitness center. We were able to replace the three bikes with two brand new Life Fitness Elevation series recumbent bikes fully loaded with HD console. Ride with Life Fitness instructors On Demand, sync your Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy watch, stream your favorite apps, and enjoy interactive workouts with beautiful sceneries. Recumbent bikes are perfect for any fitness level but are especially great for those with lower back and joint issues. The recumbent bikes sit lower than your traditional upright bike, taking the pressure off the joint and giving the back more support. They have step thru accessibility as opposed to mounting and dismounting an upright bike. With Spring just around the corner, I look forward to putting together our Summer Line Up of classes including Yoga on the Beach, Water Aerobics, Aqua Zumba and more. So come in and share a dance or take a ride whatever you fancy. I look forward to seeing you soon. As always, I appreciate all of you Krissie “March 4th, the only day that is also a sentence. “ - John Green
