BY ANNETTE DOERR As you may have noticed, lots of changes are happening here at Pocono Farms!

We’ve made several improvements to the Clubhouse, including a new front entrance, decking, ramp, and sidewalk. The old design put our members out onto the road in order to access the restaurant, now you can access it directly from the parking lot which is a much safer option.

The landscaping was finished at the end of April/beginning of May, and it makes our Club look so much better! The bar area inside the Lakeside Grill and Pub was also renovated, completing our new look. As a reminder, our restaurant is an asset to members here at the Farms and if you haven’t been there in a while, make it a point to grab dinner with your family. Its affordable, convenient and the food is terrific! New signage was also installed to help better direct our members and the community.

As a Board member, we’re hopeful that the State of Pennsylvania will continue to ease the restrictions we’ve all been living under since early 2020 when the Covid pandemic started. Whether we’ll be able to hold our annual meeting in July, we still don’t know. Please make sure your contact information is up to date at the Member Services Office so that when we know, you’ll know too!

As happens every year, we will still have an election for our Board of Directors. Ballots will be mailed later this month for the election. Please make sure you carefully read the packet and send back your ballot to our auditing firm so that it can be counted.

2021 BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS

BY DAVE TIMKO In looking ahead to the summer months, it is difficult to predict or anticipate how we may operate or under what guidelines we may be able to open our amenities. What we do know are the guidelines that are in place now and that is how we will plan to open. The State did announce that they will be relaxing the indoor and outdoor gathering limits as of 12:01am on 5/31/2021. This may not help us in planning for the Memorial Weekend, but we will remain hopeful that these guidelines will be defined in greater detail for the remainder of the summer.

One of our most popular amenities is the outdoor pool. Based on the current guidelines, we will open under the same guidelines in which we were open last summer. That means we will not have pool furniture placed out for use. Members/ guests must bring their own chair and/or towel. Food may not be brought into the pool area. Social distancing of groups must be followed. Our staff will be sanitizing the ladders and handrails on a regular schedule. At this time, there is no guidance provided if we can open our snack bar. Although this is still not what we are used to, at least we can open.

Annual Meeting The PFCCA, Inc. Annual Meeting is scheduled for Saturday July 17th at 10am. We are moving forward as if we are going to be able to host a meeting of that size.

Depending on the guidance permitted and hopefully better defined, we need to minimally find a space that will be able to accommodate 100 members (quorum required) in order to have our annual meeting.

Our goal is to find a place to host our meeting that can accommodate the average amount of members that we have had in the past which is about 165 to 170 members within any guidelines that exist.

Per our Governing Documents, we must make notice to the General Membership 21 days before the annual meeting, which means that the notice must be sent out

by June 25th announcing the meeting date, time, location, and include pertinent information with respect to the items on the agenda requiring a membership vote, including any voting issues.

The Board of Directors elections will proceed as scheduled. Printed ballots of the board candidates must be sent to all members of the Association by 1st class mail with a return envelope addressed to an authorized outside agency (Judge of Elections) as appointed by the Board for tabulation. Ballots are to be received by the Judge of Elections by July 7th, 2021. We are planning for this mailing to be sent out on or about June 16th, 2021. Please familiarize yourselves with the candidate bio’s that are printed in the Weathervane so that you may make an informed decision on who you choose to represent you.

As we get closer to the scheduled annual meeting date, we will advise and update the membership accordingly.

BY ARTIE FURMAN June is here and it is hard to believe that the year is half over already! Where does the time go? We have been very busy so far. Two of those things that are taking up a lot of our time are this month’s topics. High grass and garbage cans by the roadside. Garbage pickup day in Pocono Farms is Tuesday. Our rules state that the cans must be removed from the roadway by 6pm the day after pickup, so for us that is Wednesday evening by 6pm. Also, you cannot put your cans out too early. If you put you cans out Friday for a Tuesday pickup, I assure you they will not be there. Every animal in the land if going to enjoy the buffet you have left out for them. Besides the curbside pick we provide; we also have a disposal site at out maintenance facility located on Kilmer Road. The hours of operation which you can drop household garbage off there is Wednesday & Friday 8am12pm and Sunday 10am-2pm.

Just look out your window and you can plainly see that the grass is growing. It is getting warmer and that means it is time to start cutting that green stuff. Our rules state that your lawns are to be kept at 4” high. People ask me what is 4”? Well, I can tell you that is not up to your waist, knees, or shins.

Give or take that is just above your ankle. So, as you walk to your cars of walk around your property and you see that the grass is getting higher that that, it is time to mow.

Just a few quick things to remember that we have touched on before, noise and fireworks. With our new rules in effect, your neighbors are not to be affected by your music, parties ect. And fireworks are not allowed at all within Pocono Farms. Small things for children like sparklers are ok. Aireal rockets things that go bang, or boom or fly are forbidden. With restrictions easing and things slowly getting back to normal let us make the next half of the year a happy and healthy one! As always should you have questions or concerns, we are just a phone call away.

Summer is here! Everything is green, flowers blooming, grills ready to go, baseball to watch somewhere every day, it doesn't get much better! Now if I could get a tan and get into my old bathing suit…

I wonder if new golf clubs would help? So much to think about, just because the sunshine is daily and the weather is warm.

One of the things that I have been thinking about is the daily deluge of scams that we have been forced to confront. I was reading recently in the April issue of AARP, the inner workings of some of the groups that are in the business of getting money from the unsuspecting computer users. A number of them are in India and have been very successful. How many of us haven't received alerts on our computers, which really are no more than a way to get you talking with these groups. Some start with phone calls from Miscrosoft or Amazon, and lead you to a solution that inevitably will cost you money. As a victim a few years ago, once I got over the embarrassment of falling for a con, I did what i could to be aware of anything that might not look legitimate.

Now, I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the name or number displayed. I think, if someone wants to talk to me, they'll leave a message. If you have access to the AARP article, it's worth the time to read it!

This may be a good time to review some of the regulations in the community. There is no outside burning permitted, although recently, a fire pit is acceptable, although it should not be left burning unattended.

The parking of buses or commercial vehicles is not permitted. Recently, a few residents have been reported for parking these type vehicles in their driveway.

Unlicensed vehicles are not to be parked on the property.

The discharge of all types of firearms is not permitted within Pocono Farms.

Clotheslines can not be visible from the road or the golf course.

Grass should not be four inches or longer.

These are a few of the tenets that we have all agreed to follow when we moved in to Pocono Farms. If you have any questions concerning community regulations, contact Artie Furman, our safety & compliance officer for clarifications.

MOTIVATION FOR SEEKING SEAT ON THE BOARD: My motivation is to make a difference in the community in which I live. To be able to serve our community by sharing my expertise to further strengthen the grow of the farm is extremely important. As a long standing member of the fitness center, and a golfer I recognize the importance of such amenities because this has enable me to develop friendships, support each other goals and support the programs of the farm. This is what builds strong communities of support and helps to drive progress forward.

BOARD INFLUENCE & DIRECTION / GOVERNANCE OF COMMUNITY: My goal would be to implement on business plans and infrastructure with the ability to translate plans into specific operational changes which would benefit the continuous growth of the farm.

There are many great amenities within the farm, and being a part of the team to help enhance, improve operations and increase community participation through positive experiences is important to the success and future growth of the farm.

WHY SHOULD MEMBERS ELECT ME: I believe in leading and fostering collaboration among diverse groups of people. I will work to identify and support various opportunities by engaging in creative ways to help develop, maintain and strength relationships while balancing limited budgeting dollars. I will listen to understand, assess, communicate and implement the needs of the community to leverage and strengthen the ongoing development of the farm.

When I am elected to serve on the PFCC Board, I will put forth effort to generate involvement by the homeowners in our Community, especially encouraging them to attend the monthly Board meetings. As homeowners, we must bring our voices to the meetings because only then will our choices impact our Board's actions.

Without our presence, our Board is left to make decisions without our influence. When the Board determines the Community's needs and then makes decisions on moving forward with projects, the Community should at that point be informed and be permitted the opportunity to contribute input into the necessity of such decisions. These are our funds that are being spent on projects.

It is not my intention to distance the homeowners and the Board by encouraging the involvement of the homeowners. Decisions have, until now, been permitted to be made solely by the Board without the knowledge of the Community. I want to promote unity between homeowners and the Board such that projects are not commenced without the homeowners first being consulted and provided the opportunity to contribute their input. Our Board's priority is to at all times first do what is in our Community's best interests as well as to build both social and financial long-term value for Pocono Farms Country Club.

Our Homeowners deserve the opportunity to have their voices heard and the Board may enjoy benefitting from the many talents residing within our own Community.

BY JEFF JONES Happy Spring everyone! I hope winter was not too hard on anyone and you are all ready for golf season. I found it fitting to start writing this on our opening day, April 10th. It’s also the week our bunker project kicks off and of course Masters week as well. I was able to get an early look at the bunkers being dug out and reshaped, and it looks to be a great start. By the time this is published I anticipate the project will be nearly finished for this year. I also brought to mind the Masters because I believe it’s the most sought-after tournament to attend, not only because of the players involved, but because of the beautiful scenery and flawless grounds. Here at the Farms, we take great pride in the condition of our course and strive to create an atmosphere that keeps people coming back- although Augusta may have us beat by just a little… Our team of professional staff are doing everything to attract players and keep them coming back for more. I would like to thank our board of directors for giving the golf course and its members these opportunities to improve and for pushing Pocono Farms further up the leaderboard.

I also want to encourage parents to get their kids out on the course to enjoy this great family sport. Our Junior PGA Program will be starting soon and new faces are always welcome, regardless of age or skill level!

I can attest to the fact that the program is a great experience for all involved. Come out and see what it is all about and help your child build a love and foundation for this lifelong sport!

Let’s get out there and play some golf! Enjoy the new white sand (but don’t spend too much time in there) and have some fun.

It’s going to be a jam-packed summer season for fitness!

Water Aerobics begins and is open to all residents in good standing. Just bring your updated ID badge, a towel and water. Classes are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:00am at the pool. If the weather is questionable, an email blast will be sent out notifying you.

I look forward to this Water Aerobics season and encourage everyone to join in! The water is a great place to get a fantastic workout in while being easy on the joints. It is also a great help to those with arthritis, fibromyalgia and lower back issues/hip issues. Class will be approx. 45-50 minutes and consist of everything from cardio to yoga. We will use water weights and noodles so if you have your own, please feel free to bring them along.

Yoga on the Beach is also starting back up and will be held on Sundays at 8 am this year. Again, if the weather is questionable, we will move class inside so please watch for an email blast or notification on the outside doors of the fitness center! Must be a current fitness member to participate.

Yoga is fantastic way to stretch the body and build flexibility and balance. Bringing it outside under the summer sun and hearing nature adds the perfect touch to help ground us as well as relax, refocus and reenergize. If you have been on the fence about taking a yoga class, I encourage you to come to the beach on Sundays and join Abby. She has a great vibe!

Finally, I will be bringing you a bootcamp class on Mondays at 8:30 am. Start the week off right with an intense cardio class outside. We will meet at the soccer field on Fairway drive and get our sweat on. I have some challenging drills to melt the fat, build your cardio game, and have fun. Must be a current fitness member to participate.

COMMUNITY REMINDER Household trash & Recycling

Household trash and recycling cans are picked up every Tuesday. Cans need to be out at the end of your driveway, 3 feet apart, with the handles facing your home by 6:00AM. Cans must be brought in by 6:00PM. At times due to weather and delays beyond County Waste’s control, the “normal” pick up time and route may vary. To avoid having your cans missed, please have them out by 6:00AM.
