From You r Boa r d Of Dir ec tor s BY ANNET TE DOERR If you’ve been driving around our community recently, I’m sure you’ve seen some of the improvements we’re hard at work on. While we were all disappointed about having to keep the pool closed, our beach area is now larger than ever to welcome more residents that would normally be at the pool. Alli and our Recreation team is doing a great job and has purchased more kayaks and paddle boards that can be reserved free of charge to our residents.

From T he Gener a l M a n ager BY DAVE TIMKO As Spring winds down, we start to gear up for our busy season. Along with that, we start to see a lot more of our members outdoors, in and around the Pocono Farms Community. Over the past 6 years, there have been over 650 properties that have changed ownership. We can attest to that as we are seeing many new faces at the activities/ events/ and in the Lakeside Grill & Pub. This is really positive for Pocono Farms!! As we enter the busy season, we would like to stress the importance of having your PFCCA badge with its current year amenities sticker, with you when you are out on the property, frequenting the amenities, or having something to eat in the Lakeside Grill & Pub. Not only do we know that there are many new members, we also hire seasonal staff who may not know many of the members yet. Having your badge with you to present when you are within the Pocono Farms community, will ensure that our members are the ones using the facilities. This is one of the many challenges we face of not being a gated community. Pocono Farms is not open to the public. The general public cannot: •
Stop by the Lakeside Grill & Pub for something to eat or drink
•
Park and use the beach, tennis courts, or playground area
•
Or any of the PFCCA owner’s amenities. The public can make a tee time to play golf and pay the appropriate fee. We can also host events in the banquet room at the prevailing rates.
The point here being, please do not be offended when your server asks for your badge when you visit the Lakeside Grill & Pub. Serving the public would be in direct violation of the PFCCA liquor license. Similarly, if you were out on the beach or playground area, Public Safety may ask to see your badge. They are just ensuring that our members, and their guests, are the ones using the amenities that you, as a member of PFCCA, are paying to operate and maintain. With close to 1,500 homes within Pocono Farms, it is impossible for us to know every member and your guest. You and/or your guest having a badge or pass will help us in making sure that your facilities are being used by your fellow members. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as summer approaches. If you have any questions regarding the badges, amenity stickers, or guest passes, please contact our Member Services office.

BY RUSS KELLY Summer is here and things have brightened up at the farms! Trees have new leaves, the grass is growing, and the flowers are in bloom. This is the time of the year when some of you will be getting letters from our code official because the grass is getting too long, or you haven’t cleaned up your property yet. Most of the calls I’ve been receiving lately are about uncovered propane tanks. Need a little guidance on covering them? Call Artie, our code official. Don’t get mad, it’s his job! If you have driven around the farms at all, you are aware of the number of new houses that have been built and the renovations that have gone on during the past year. New homes mean new people and new members in the community! Do what you can to welcome our new neighbors and encourage them to take advantage of our amenities. Sadly, as you probably all know by now, one of our amenities, the pool will not be opening this year. A major reconstruction is necessary, so the expansion of our lake facility will have to do this year. I’m sure extra effort will be done to make the lake as family friendly as possible! Over the years, Pocono Farms Country Club has received high marks from the local police department. Every year, our crime watch luncheon has been attended by the local police and we have been told that we have fewer police calls than other communities in the area. They have told us that crime watch volunteers make a big difference in the type calls that are received. However, there is a kind of crime that can’t be helped by a volunteer system, and that is scam callers. I’m sure all of us have heard from this kind of criminal. They’re on the phone, and on your computers. They’re slick, and many of us have fallen for their scams at one time or another. For those of you who do not receive an AARP bulletin, I encourage you to find a May 2022 edition. This provides a very detailed look at how these scams work; how much each scammer makes, and the longterm use of your information. In April, our little band of volunteers rode the roads for 110 hours. You could help spread the time by giving up a couple of hours a month. Call the office at 570-894-4435 or leave a message for Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034.

As you read this, it is hard to believe that the year is already half over! It seems as if we just started the year the Farms. One thing I must touch upon in this article is a situation that has been ongoing for a little while. I am here to remind you all what the rules are within the Farms and to start, I would like to discuss the fire issue. Now, fires are permitted when you have the proper receptacle and the correct material. The reports we have been experiencing are bonfires in the occasional burn barrel containing incorrect burning material. I’ve seen construction material, furniture, kitchen cabinets, and so on. These things have never been allowed within Pocono Farms and Coolbaugh Township. The only type of material you are allowed to burn are natural items such as sticks, branches or wood that would be cut up from a fallen tree. Another item I would like to touch upon is fireworks. Again, fireworks are NEVER allowed within Pocono Farms. They are also not allowed within Coolbaugh Township except one day per year and that is the Fourth of July - with a permit. That is why we do our own Fourth of July celebration every year! Even though you can buy them in the state legally, not that many places in Pennsylvania allow you to shoot them off. The fine in Pocono Farms for shooting off fireworks is $500, and within Coolbaugh Twp. is $600. I know you will find it hard to believe, but every incident so far this year has been the long-term resident and homeowner of Pocono Farms, not the short-term rental people as many may think. So, please be mindful of the rules and regulations and should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out as we are just a phone call away. Thank you and have a safe, happy summer!

ANNUAL MEETING REMINDER
2021 BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION CANDIDATES
SATURDAY JULY 16 AT 10:00AM
This year, there were (4) four candidates running for four open seats on the all-volunteer PFCCA, Inc. Board of Directors. The four candidates pictured below will now fill those positions. Three seats were open, each for a three-year term. One seat was open for a one-year term. A previously elected Board member moved to Florida, which left the remainder of his term open for one year. With four candidates running for four positions on the board, there is no need to mail election ballots or engage a Judge of Elections. The next mailing correspondence will be that of the announcement of the Annual Meeting, to be mailed around June 24th, announcing the location of the annual meeting, and any voting issues that will be presented to the membership in attendance at the meeting, for a vote.
IF A QUORUM IS NOT ATTAINED ON THE ORIGINAL DATE OF 7/16/22, A SECOND MEETING DATE WILL BE AUGUST 6TH AT 10AM

R ound by R ound BY ORRY GRAS SI Let’s briefly talk about the mental aspect of Golf. Like myself, some people are apprehensive about the game. Many think that it is easy to hit a little ball on a tee or off the grass, but after trying a few times, they realize that it is harder than it looks. They will end up hitting grounders or never hit straight. This is what makes it intriguing. It is a game where you try to beat your own performance. Always remember, to not let your mind trick you and never give up! Everything gets better with practice and our Golf Pro is always here to lend a helping hand. I would like to advise everyone golf etiquette on the course including – do not play slow, do not hit into other golfers, try to stay within two or three shots of the groups ahead and finally, fix all turf that you disturb. All these examples help keep the course is great playing condition for future groups. Our Golf Pro and greens keeper work hard to keep our course in pristine conditions. Reminder that Junior Golf starts this month! To sign up your little ones, contact Kyle at the Pro Shop at 570894-4435 ext. 111.

Oh no what are we going to do without Water Aerobics??? No fear, I got you covered!! There are a couple different options to choose from, one is NOT sitting at home doing nothing. You can come into the fitness center and purchase a class card for $25. That gains you access to 6 classes of your choice, or you can join the fitness center for three months for ONLY $147 single or $225 couple. That gains you full access the fitness center and classes plus any fitness related events that may be planned outside. Well, what are you planning, Krissie? I thought you’d never ask! Yoga on the Beach with Abby begins on Saturday June 18th at 8 am. This class is held outside on the beach weather permitting. It runs every Saturday at 8 am until Labor Day. If the weather holds out, we will extend it provided Abby is available to teach. We ask that you bring your own mat, props, towel, and water and arrive 10 minutes prior to class to get signed in and set up. The beach is perfect and so peaceful at this time of morning. Join us and start your weekend off right. Pilates will also be returning for the summer months on Friday mornings. This is held indoors in the fitness center classroom, but if we can get outside in the grass we will. Linda is a fabulous Pilates instructor! I encourage you to come on in and tighten and tone those abs!! Butts and Guts is always a fun class and if I can get us outside in the evenings I will. I’d love to be able to get my hands on a big tire and maybe a rubber mallet so we can try out some CrossFit type workouts for the summer. Butts and Guts is held at 5:30 pm on Monday evenings. I have also been talking with Alli, our Recreation Director, about planning some Zumba events on the beach or the lawn. Maybe a little Glo Zumba, an 80’s night, and other themed Zumba/Cardio dance workouts. Watch for email blasts on how to sign up!! None of that suits you, that’s ok! A great alternative to Water Aerobics is our Chair Yoga classes and our Happy Hearts class. Chair yoga is held Tuesday and Thursday at 10 am in the fitness classroom. Happy Hearts will be held Wednesdays at 10 am in the classroom as well. If weather permits, we can bring the chairs outside, and you can enjoy the fresh air and the garden view. Our new recumbent bikes are due to arrive in June as well. As a fitness member you will have access to the machines and equipment inside the gym. The recumbent bikes are great for those with back and joint issues. You can ride to your hearts content with an interactive screen that will take you on a journey thru the mountains or along the sandy beach. You can watch your favorite TV show or listen to your choice of music. Whatever you fancy. I think I have given you plenty of alternatives to Water Aerobics, but I do want you to know I will miss teaching this class so much! I look forward to it each year and the friendly faces, the smiles and the laughs will be truly missed. I hope to see those faces and smiles and hear those laughs in the fitness center this summer! Please come on in and let’s chat about how we can accommodate you for the summer. As always thank you for the kind words and support, I appreciate all of you! Krissie
