The 2019 Annual Meeting of the membership at PFCCA, Inc was held on Saturday, July 20th, in the community banquet room. As there was not a quorum present, only 77 properties were represented (100 are needed for a quorum at the annual meeting) an official meeting and action on the one voting issue could not be performed.

The 2019 collection of assessments is 2.27% greater when compared to the same period in 2018.

Investment income has increased over 2018. This investment income is realized through staggered CD’s.

Food & Beverage results through June are performing better to budget.

These positive trends, along with the implemented cost control measures by our management team, led the Board to not present a dues increase as a voting issue at the Annual Meeting. Even with a garbage increase of over $100,000.00 in 2019 versus 2018, the Association’s financial position and forecast are still favorable. The results of the Board of Directors elections were also announced and those results were listed on the front page of the August Weathervane.

Enjoy what is left of the summer as we all know what type of weather is right around the corner! Make sure you check the Weathervane and your emails for our activity and event announcements. More members are attending these events, which again is a positive trend for Pocono Farms!

Although we did not have enough homeowners to fulfil a quorum, and no voting issues could be undertaken, we had a wonderful informational session along with a question and answer session with some wonderful questions and suggestions from the community.

We very much appreciate all of the time and effort you selflessly put into the community during that time, all while managing a family and a career.

The most common saying we will hear is “where did the summer go?”

Thank You! To my fellow homeowners: I want to thank all of you who sent in their ballot for new Board members. Also for attending our Annual Meeting on July 20, 2019. We did not have the meeting because only 77 homeowners came.

Remember one thing, without us, the homeowner, we would not have our community.You are the back bone of this community and you all are important in making any decisions concerning our community.

So come out to the Board meeting which is in your Weathervane and say what is important to you.

Remember that the Board members are there for and work for you; we do not work for them.

Come out and be heard. It is important that we all take an interest in our community

When all else fails and we are looking for something to start a conversation with, it is always a winner. If you think about it, there is truth in the question. The crime watch drivers that spend the winter away are already planning this year’s trip. Just when we think we are getting more coverage, it will not be long until our hours on the road go down again.

Now we have to start watching the roads for the kids going back to school. Our drivers will once again try to be near school bus stops to be visible to drivers that may not be thinking about stopping when the red light is blinking on the bus. None of us like being held up by a stopped school bus, but safety trumps convenience. We ask parents to not crowd the corner while waiting to pick up their children; and, to remind them to speak to the older kids about walking home in groups when possible, and not taking any rides, no matter what the weather, from someone they do not know.

Recently in the news, Equifax, one of the companies that may have had access to your financial information, has been hacked, and personal information of millions of people has been compromised. I went online and found that I was among those affected. The scope of their business being what it is, I was not surprised to find my name. Equifax offers you a one time check for $125 dollars or three years of free credit card security. It is worth looking into this. The website is simple to use, and the decision is yours to decide how you would like to use their offer.

In July , the volunteers patrolled for 98 hours. In years past, summer patrols exceeded 100 hours because we had many more drivers sharing the load. If we are going to continue doing our part to keep this community safe, more of us are needed throughout the year to spend a few hours a month being a visible deterrent. Join us for a few hours a month, call Russ Kelly at 570 894 4034, or call the office, they will help you get started.

Rockin’ Recreation

HOLE IN ONE

13 year old Chris Storck had his first hole in one on Saturday July 13th at Pocono Farms CC in the PGA Junior League Match against Glenmaura National.

It was on his first shot of the day on hole number 1 from the family tees from 191 yards out.

I would like to start off by saying thank you to the community for attending all of our events this summer. Without your attendance the recreation department would not be able to create the close knit community that we have now. As we look into the fall and winter months the recreation department will still focus on having plenty of community events. For example, on September 8th the recreation department will be hosting a Sunday Kickoff event for the upcoming NFL season. Along with the amazing food and drink specials, those of us who like a little more excitement will have the opportunity to WIN BIG. Next up on September 14th we have the San Generro Festival. Come on down and let your inner Italian side out and enjoy some live music, wine tasting, and of course a buffet of delicious food. To finish out the month we will be looking at hosting another Spirited Art Paint and Sip at the Lakeside Bar & Grill.

Enjoy a nice dinner and head over to create a masterpiece while drinking some wonderful wine. If interested please sign up with our Administration Office.

Keep in mind we have plenty of recreation equipment for our community members and their guests to use for our bocce ball court, shuffle board, tennis, pickleball, and boating! Stop by the Administration Office or give Nick a call to reserve today!

2019 POCONO FA RMS GOLF SCHOL A RSHIP W INNERS (Pictured left to right are) Amanda Marie Moody, Matthew Galka, Anthony Novellino, Tommy Gaudette This year marks the 16th Anniversary of the Golf Scholarship awards.

To date, the fund has awarded $55,500.00 to 45 deserving high school seniors of Pocono Farms.

The scholarship program is funded through various golf outings and through the generous donations of others, some who have memorialized past members. The largest contributor to the fund is the Denny Pig Roast golf event held in September each year.

Fun With Fitness

Just like that, summer season has come to an end and we are headed into autumn. Thank you to everyone for a very successful summer season!! I am thrilled that we were able to get in a great Water Aerobics session along with Yoga on the Beach. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the weather when we hold these outdoor classes and I am thankful for your understanding when classes are cancelled or moved inside.

It is my job to keep you all safe and although I do make mistakes, I will not take the risk when our safety is concerned. As our lives begin to slow down some and the weather becomes cooler, I encourage you to listen to your bodies. The fast paced lifestyle summer brings can take a toll on our bodies and we need to take notice of the small aches or pains that may come about as we slow down. Taking the time to stretch is so important and often times is skipped because it seems monotonous and maybe even boring.

There are many benefits to regular stretching. Not only can stretching help increase your flexibility, which is an important factor of fitness, but it can also improve your posture, reduce stress and body aches, and more. There are several types of stretching techniques including: dynamic, static, ballistic, PNF, passive, and active stretching. The most common forms of stretches are static and dynamic: • Static stretches involve holding a stretch in a comfortable position for a period of time, typically between 10 and 30 seconds. This form of stretching is most beneficial after you exercise.

• Dynamic stretches are active movements that cause your muscles to stretch, but the stretch is not held in the end position. These stretches are usually done before exercise to get your muscles ready for movement.

I encourage you to stop in the fitness center and try one of our classes. We have both a Chair Yoga class and a Stretch and Tone class that offer the benefits of all the above.

PL AY IT FORWA RD How far do you really hit the ball? Not just the one good shot, but the average distance you normally hit a ball during a round of golf. We all tend to be “Legends in our own Mind” but at some point a golfer has to be realistic about his/her expectation, skill, and ability.

Enter the phrase “Play it Forward”. The USGA and the PGA of America partnered together to establish the Play It Forward initiative back in 2011. The idea was to enhance a golfers experience by playing from tees best suited to their abilities and to encourage golfers to play a golf course at a length that aligns with their average driving distance.

Teeing it forward can make your round more enjoyable and with a little success makes you want to come back for more. Forward tees, in some respects allow the amateur golfer the chance to play a course at the same relative distance as low handicappers and professionals.

Also, by moving forward on the tee box you have a better chance of hitting 6, 7, or 8 irons into a green on second shots as opposed to hitting long irons, hybrids or woods to the green theoretically giving you a better chance to score.

Jack Nicklaus, one of the greatest golfers of all time is a Tee It Forward supporter as well as a proponent of other ideas to make the game more enjoyable.

At Pocono Farms, and other courses, the “Red Tees” have generally been referred to as the “Ladies Tees”. They should really be referred to as the “Forward Tees”. The concept of Tee It Forward also intends to remove the stigma of the “red” tees as ladies’ tees.

Maybe it is time to change the color of the forward tees as some golf courses have already done.

Blended tees are also an option combining different tee boxes and holes which result in a different 18 hole golf course. At Pocono Farms we have, in addition to the Black, Blue, White, Red, and Family Tees, two additional combination tees (Combo Tees). These are the Blue/White Combo and the White/Red Combo which results in different yardages and ratings. As you can tell we have many options available to us at our course.

There are a number of different methods that can be used to determine the yardage from which to play, some of which I have included below.

1. If you are unable to reach a green in regulation on Par 3’s, 4’s or 5’s then move forward until you find a tee that allows you to play to regulation.

2. Another method may be to utilize the USGA and PGA guidelines for average driving distance and its relationship to recommended tees. For example, if your average drive is 225 yards then you should be playing tees in the 5800 to 6000 yard range.

3. Some courses have handicap ranges on their scorecards next to the tee designation to help determine the tees you should play for the course.

So, next time you are on the course, get real. Put the ego aside, and play to your true potential by playing the appropriate tees. There is no shame in playing it forward.

NEWS FROM THE SWIM TEAM

By Jen Pero The Pocono Farms Swim Team has finished another successful season.

The team consisted of 55 swimmers ages 5-16 years old. The team competed against local communities earning points for each race. The swimmers practiced hard in the early mornings perfecting their stroke and learning techniques. Often times they braved the rain and cold to continue swimming. The swim team provides an opportunity for kids to grow as swimmers and also make lifelong friends and memories. These great swimmers participated in our annual “Laps for Cancer,� raising over $1500 to be donated to the Monroe County Hospice House. Eighteen of our swimmers competed in the end of the season Championship Meet. Liam Ong, Polina Ptak, Natalie Gortych, Regan Carlson, Izabela Filipovski, and Evelyn Riccio all took first place in some of their events while the rest of the swimmers took 2nd through 6th place! At the banquet, Kayla Fagan won the Galen Award and Donnalee Serraino was honored for all her time and dedication she has given in making the swim team the best it can be over the years. It is a great community full of wonderful people that make the swim team what it is and has always been over the years. Thank you everyone for your continued support!
