At that meeting, three (3) directors who received the most votes out of the six candidates were announced to serve their 3 year term. I would like to thank all six candidates for stepping up and participating in the process for the Board positions. Those that want to volunteer their time to become part of the board of nine directors should be commended. At the annual meeting, we also had two guest speakers. The first was Tom Shepstone who worked on the Board approved Valuation Study for Pocono Farms along with Davis R Chant Realtors. They were engaged to “conduct an independent property valuation study for the express purpose of determining the impact of Pocono Farms amenity values, specifically including the PGA golf course, on private home and property values within the development.” The study is very detailed and arrives at a couple of conclusions about maintaining values. (1) existing amenities have to be maintained and upgraded to hold their values, and (2) investments need to be continually made in additional or improved amenities. This complete study is on the Pocono Farms website for you to review. The second guest speaker – Jeff Evans – Management Matters, Inc, was retained to work with DEPARTMENT HEADS General Manager David Timko the Board and management to develop the Strategic Master Plan for Pocono Farms. Crime Watch Activity Report BY RUSS KELLY

The rain finally stopped, the sun started shining and suddenly it was September. The summer seems to fly by and we’re once again looking ahead to the change of weather. September always means the kids are going back to school again and we have to remind ourselves to be more aware while driving. The kids are up and out earlier than they are in the summer, so we must be careful in case they’re not. We normally remind parents to speak to their kids going to and from the bus stops to walk in groups and don’t take a ride from anyone you don’t know. If anyone seems to be out of place and are attempting to get them in a car, don’t be afraid to get noisy and call attention to the car. Make sure you report this to your parent, the school, our security officer or the local police. We also ask parents who drive to the bus stop to pick up their children to park on one side of the road and not to crowd the intersection. There have been several complaints about problems turning onto a street because cars had parked up to the stop sign and in some cases on both sides of the road. I know it’s important to have your child take as few steps as possible between the bus and your car, but a few extra won’t hurt. At the end of July, several of our crime watch drivers met with Bill Weimer, a Coolbaugh Township supervisor and Tomas Keane, the code enforcement officer for Coolbaugh Township. The code officer was created to better enforce the township ordinances. Two additional employees will be hired to help manage the 90 miles and 16,500 land parcels which they oversee. Since these two men are concerned with the condition of properties in the township, both are residents of Pocono Farms, they would be concerned of the adherence of code requirements within the farms. The two gentlemen were very helpful in answering the questions our drivers had with regard to abandoned and/or unkempt properties, unlicensed vehicles, township ordinances and violations, nuisances, litter and garbage bags dumped on Pocono Farms property. They have agreed to add “no dumping” signs including posting fines for Hemlock Drive, a particularly high litter area. They informed the group of a “service request” form that can be found on line to report any township issues. They also supplied us with a copy, of the township’s health and safety ordinance, chapter 10, which can found on the townships website. Mr. Weimer reported that they have started relining the streets in the Farms and that paving of some areas should start soon. Along with a few small roads within the Farms, they are doing Laurel Drive and Summit Drive. Next year they will be looking at some of the deteriorating roads such as Kilmer and Wildflower. Evaluations will be done in the spring with the township engineer. Tree trimming along roadsides will be done where required. Remember, 25 feet from the middle of the road is considered township property. Mr. Weimer reported that he has asked the water company for seven more fire hydrants for Pocono Farms. He was not sure if they would be installed this year, but they are slated for and mapped out. This should help some residents with their homeowner’s policy costs. The township’s goal is to get more hydrants throughout the communities to assist in emergency response and lower insurance rates for residents. We have a clearer understanding of the responsibilities of the township and the communities in dealing with the various violations that are reported in and around our community. Each of our volunteers will be made aware of those responsibilities. Hopefully, we have had a large response to the appeal for committee volunteers. If you’re still thinking it over, give it a try. Also, if not a committee, try driving a few hours a month around the farms, you might enjoy it, and meet a lot of nice people. Give Russ Kelly a call at 570-894-4034 or contact the office.

The busses are running and the bus stops have children everywhere, along with cars everywhere and the problems that creates. I receive so many complaints every year about cars parked everywhere

at the bus stops. Also about speeding cars at the bus stops. PA State Law is you cannot park closer than 30 feet to a stop sign. Take the Farms out of the picture, it is simply a safety issue and it is State Law. Also while you are waiting for the bus, you must park as far off the road as possible. Think of an intersection, people parked on both sides of the roadway in all directions. It makes it very difficult for people to make turns and to simply drive through the area. There are times when it’s like an obstacle course. Lastly, please slowdown in these areas. We are all in a hurry these days. We all have someplace we have to be. Please be mindful of the children and the busses and allow yourself an extra 5-10 minutes of travel time. I will thank you all in advance for your cooperation. I think I will go take some Aleve now in preparation for that back ache I am going to have. As always should you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me, my door is always open.

REFUSE COLLECTION: Curbside pick-up of household trash and recycling is done on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning at 6:00am by County Waste. County Waste will only pick up household trash and accepted recycling. If you have any other items to discard, please call them at 570-382-3304 to set up arrangements. Major Holidays that will affect your collection days are: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Christmas. When those holidays fall on a Monday or Tuesday, garbage collection will shift by one day. ANIMALS: Dogs must be leashed or on owner’s property at all times. Wildlife, such as deer and black bear, are common at Pocono Farms. We ask that you NOT FEED any wild animals. EMERGENCIES: For ALL emergencies including medical or fire please contact 911 first, then contact Public Safety at 570-894-4435 x105. Pool Season Coming To An End BY JEN PERO

As the heat begins to lift and the fall air comes in, it’s a sign of another Pocono Farms summer coming to an end. The summer has been filled with bursts of heat, rain and of course wind. The pool was the place to be for many of those days this summer. With the addition of four big umbrellas and six new tables, there was plenty of space to come and relax! Our aquatics staff with both old and new lifeguards made sure it was a safe and fun summer at the lake and pool. We thank them for their assertiveness while on duty. We ran another successful season of water aerobics taught by our new instructor Katie Tierney. Water Aerobics is held Monday, Wednesday & Friday 10-11am every summer in case you missed it this year and would like to give it a try. The Pocono Farms swim team did an excellent job this season remaining undefeated which doesn’t go without hard work and practice. We have the most dedicated and giving kids on our team. They not only work hard but raised over $1000 to donate to Hospice Services here in Monroe County at our annual Laps for Cancer in July. I’d like to give a special thanks to all the parents and volunteers that make it possible to have such a great season year after year. We wish you a warm winter and we’ll see you again next summer! ~ Aquatics Staff

Fun With Fitness

THIRSTY THURSDAYS

September already?? The summer season seemed to fly by this year and I am happy to report that is was a great season for the fitness center. Our Summer Slimdown special brought in many new faces and has helped to get our members ready for the 2nd Annual PFCCA 5K Fun Run/Walk. The fun run will take place on Sunday, September 16th so if you are not registered yet you can do so in the fitness center or the morning of the race. We hope to see you there!

SEPTEMBER 6th Salisbury Steak $10.95 With mushrooms and onions. Served with mashed potatoes and gravy, grilled vegetables. Selection of soup and fresh baked rolls.

SEPTEMBER 13th Live Action Pasta Station $11.95 3 pastas, 3 sauces and an array of toppings. Accompanied with garlic bread and Caesar salad.

SEPTEMBER 20th Beef Stroganoff $11.95 Served with parpperdelle noodles and green beans and joined with a mixed green salad and fresh baked bread.

I would like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to Katie Tierny for stepping up and teaching Water Aerobics this summer. I had the opportunity to fill in and it is not an easy class to teach. Katie was willing to take on the task and she did an AMAZING job!! I would also like to extend a warm thank you to Abby Denny. Abby travels from her home in NJ to teach here at PFCCA. She teaches both Yoga on the Beach and Yogalaties for us in the summer season. Abby adds a calm and relaxing aire to our class line up and from the participation in her classes it seems she has created her own little following here at the Farms. Thank you Abby on a fantastic summer season!!! As we say good bye to summer and hello to autumn, I encourage you to continue to be active. We may need to move our workouts indoors as the chill comes in the air and winter approaches. Our fitness center has so much to offer to help you. We offer Personal Training and a variety of group fitness classes for every level. We have cardio machines, weight machines, free weights, and more. It’s never over crowded and we do our best to keep the facility in tip top shape. Come visit us and see for yourself!! As always thank you for your continued support. I appreciate it. Rockin’ Recreation BY THE RECREATION DIRECTOR

Summer is winding towards an end…yuck! Now we wait until next year. We want to thank everyone who participated in all of our summer programs over the last few months. Our adult Bocce league was once again a tremendous success and we look forward to having everyone back next season and making some improvements! Youth Bocce was a tremendous success as well. It is always good to see some of the kids in our community participate! Summer Camp went very well and we will have brand new themes and field trips next summer, so if you have any children ages 5-13 be sure to check-in next year. Pricing will also be adjusted! We have jump-started some programs this summer and will create some organized leagues, tournaments and clubs next summer. Some of these new features include: wiffle ball, soccer, pickle-ball and paddle boards. Bowling league will begin in October. Meeting for Bowling will be Tuesday, September 4th at 7 p.m. in the banquet room. ‘Mommy & Me’ will begin this month on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (an extra day!) from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Beginning September 11 and lasting until May 9, 2019. We will have a brand new calendar and some field trips as well. If you are interested in enrolling, please contact the recreation department at (570) 894-4435 EXT 113. We would love to see some new children utilize this program.

HONORARY STARTERS This year’s Honorary starters for the 2018 Member/Member golf tournament were: Bob Denny on the left and Richard Brescher on the right. The winners of the event were: Mike Gaudette and Mike Gaudette, Jr.

**Our monthly recreation meeting will take place on Thursday, September 6th @ 7 p.m. in community room. Be on the lookout for bus trips! We are scheduling them fast and slots fill up rather quickly! So, always check out our Facebook page, or the administration office for details!

We want to thank all departments in Pocono Farms for making this summer a tremendous success. Jen Pero once again had an excellent summer at the pool! It was packed on our hot summer days and it was good to see community members enjoying various fundraisers and activities. Katrina and her food and beverage staff have done an excellent job and we commend them for their hard work, great events and tasty food! Sue, Sam & Maria in the administration office do an excellent job creating our fliers and aiding our residents with any information they may need. Dave Winters and his maintenance staff have done a great job helping with any community issues and are always hard-at-work. Artie and his Public Safety team ensure our community is safe and helping out to gets our bus moving. Patti, who does a fabulous job providing concessions and halfway house goodies for all our members to enjoy. Kyle, Jeff and their staffs for maintaining the golf course and making sure our golf members have a great course and list of events. Lex and Victoria in the realty office who do a tremendous job for new home buyers. Our General Manager, Dave Timko for guaranteeing we all are managing our areas efficiently and delivering excellent service. Finally, our community residents for being the best EVER!

SCHOL A RSHIPS AWA RDED At their Member/Member Memorial golf tournament held over the weekend of July 20th – 22nd, the Pocono Farms Country Club golf scholarship committee awarded two resident graduating seniors with a total of $4,000.00 in scholarship funds. The scholarship applicants were scored on their academic record, extracurricular involvement, community service, and their personal interview. Congratulations to Taylor Fagan and Ryan Greene, recipients of this year’s scholarships!! Pocono Farms Country Club Association has been awarding scholarships to deserving high school seniors since 2004 with a total of over $54,000.00 awarded during that time. Contributions to this fund are made through various golf outings held throughout the season. Scholarships have also been awarded through funds set up to memorialize past golf members of the Club that gave so much of their time and effort in support of the Club. Golf is an integral part of the community at Pocono Farms. The golf scholarship committee and the golf members are proud to award these scholarships to these deserving high school seniors.

What is golf? It is much more than just a game. It is challenging and rewarding, and yes, it sure can be frustrating at times. It is a competition against your own best score or a friendly competition between friends. It is practicing to make your game better. It is the satisfaction of hitting that unbelievable shot! It is a day of relaxing exercise outside on the beautiful course. We share the course with the birds, rabbit, deer, bear, fox, squirrels and more; can’t forget the frogs in the pond on 14. The conditions on the course are great. And of course, there is lots of good fun at the 19th hole. But, the best part of Pocono Farms is the people. I’ve heard it over and over from the snowbirds who are glad to be back, and from members who left other clubs to join Pocono Farms. Everyone is welcoming and we all take care of each other! So how has this summer been? We have been bouncing between rainy day and gorgeous days. The tournaments have been great and have somehow dodged the rain for the most part. We played the Member/Member tournament a different course each day. On Saturday, the ball rolled an extra 10 yards. Then on Sunday, after the rain all night, each shot seemed to go 20 yards shorter, if it rolled at all. The Member/Member and the Member/Guest tournaments drew a good crowd. Both were great weekends! There was lots of great competition, good food & drink, and fun times. Along with many other popular events, there are a variety of leagues or groups to join. Our newest is the Panda Friday night league which has been an enormous success. It has teamed up golfers that would never have played together otherwise. Check Clubster, there are many more events, and come join the fun. We are heading into the Club Championships over the next few weekends. Good Luck to all! That means it is almost time for the Fall Special. Spread the word. Pocono Farms is a great place to be! The special is a super deal, so share it with your friends! Enjoy the rest of the season.
