As summer quickly comes to a close, it is now time to start to prepare the 2020 budget. Over the next few months, the Board and management will put together their plans for 2020. A lot of this preparation is spent looking at and tracking historical trends in both revenue and expenses. We also take into consideration the expenses we know or anticipate increasing next year. We know that our garbage service will go up by about $31,000.00 as we will be in year 2 of our 5 year agreement. Standard increases in our property and medical insurances, payroll taxes, product purchases and utilities are normal anticipated increases. Some trends we see on the revenue side are positive. Food & beverage, tenant registration, and daily pool pass revenue are trending well, and we see that continuing. In addition, our collection rate has been better due to some measures and actions taken in 2019. This all leads to more operational income that is non-assessment based. Taking the above items into consideration is part of the reasoning behind the Board not proposing a dues increase for 2020. In 2020, we will again submit 3 to 5 more cul-de-sacs for repaving. We have also spoken with PA American Water Company. They are submitting some main water line replacements within the community next year. Roads are overlaid with new pavement once the work is completed. They will advise us if this work is approved on their end. Once we are informed of which roads where they will be replacing the water lines, we will advise you. Additionally, there will be six (6) new fire hydrants coming online later this fall. This will bring the total amount of hydrants within the community to 29. Once these hydrants come online, we will update all of the locations and make them available to you. Typically when PA American Water Company replaces a main water line, they partner with the township in the installation of fire hydrants. Enjoy the fall season!!

considering giving the course a try, October is the perfect month! Who knows, maybe you will enjoy it so much you will become a member! The pool crowd also enjoyed a great summer with several well-attended, fun events thanks to our Recreation Director, Nick! Although we could not extend the pool season farther into September this year, we felt it was important to address the issues with the pool liner, so that we are ready to swim when the warm air is upon us again (which hopefully is after a nice, mild winter!). A huge shout-out to our seasonal lifeguard staff, who made sure everyone stayed safe in and out of the water this summer. We hope you took the time to enjoy some of the great events that took place over the last few weeks. A sell-out crowd enjoyed music by the Yesterday Band, which if you did not know is made up of Pocono Farms residents. Labor Day weekend was a blast with our Annual Night at the Rodeo which is always a crowd-favorite. While I have chosen to showcase just a few events that Pocono Farms offered over the past few weeks, there is always something going on. Check the bulletin board in the Administration Office, read the Weathervane, or the Resident Section of the website to become aware of what is offered, and take advantage of it. This is our community. The amenities, the restaurant, the golf course, it is all here for you to enjoy. Get involved, join a committee, try a class at the Fitness Center, and enjoy what your community has to offer. Pocono Farms is truly an amazingly unique place!

Cr i m e Watch Ac t i v it y R eport BY RUSS KELLY This time of year is the most colorful. We get to see every day what people drive miles to look at for a day or so. Even if you do not venture far from the Farms, the streets here are a picture with all of the colors on each side as you drive by. I understand why years ago the early residents put together the rules, concerning the restrictions on tree removal. I am sure many of them came from cities or suburbs where trees were all removed to make room for the maximum amount of homes that could be built in the subdivision. To keep the idea of tree preservation alive, our drivers are encouraged to report tree removal when not accompanied by a permit from our code official. As homes being built in the Farms were getting larger than the original homes, tree preservation became more difficult. So, if it becomes necessary to remove a tree, make sure you speak with the code official and follow the rules that are meant to maintain the quality of living we all came here to experience. One of our volunteers was going to speak with Dave Timko about including some of the basic rules that we agree to follow when another mailing is sent out to all residents. Garbage cans left out for more than a day after pick up is a common item. Some people may be away and have not made arrangements with a friend or neighbor to “pull in their trash can”. Others are here full time, and still drive by the cans when returning home, leaving the cans at the end of their driveway. There also seems to be many more cars without plates being reported. Our code official is working on getting our residents to comply with this rule. In August, our drivers logged 98 hours of driving. Now with winter coming, a few of our drivers “fly south” and we could use help keeping the patrol as active as possible. A couple of hours a month can be helpful to your community. L et t er to t he Editor OH WHAT A NIGHT! BY LINDA BECHT Friday, August 23rd the banquet room was filled with more than 125 people who came to listen and dance to the music of The Yesterday Band. It has been three years since they have all played music together, but they were better than ever! The music from the 70’s played all night so the dance floor was never empty. I personally was hoarse the next day from singing along. A big thanks to Bob, Brian, George (coming in from Florida just to play) Fred, Martin, Joe, and Tony for entertaining all of us, for free, and they definitely succeeded! Thank you to Katrina and her fabulous staff for all their hard work at serving us dinner and beverages. Hopefully the band will consider doing this again - what a fun night!!

With all the colors in bloom and the leaves will start falling, I thought this a good time to go over seven occurrences that I had to address this year. The burning of leaves and limbs; three were piles on the ground and the other four were burn barrels. This simply is not allowed. None of these had a hose in the area and five were unattended. All of these things were by newer homeowners. There are no open fires allowed within the Farms. Your leaves can be bagged and emptied out across from the maintenance yard; bags are not to be left with the leaves. The Township also has locations you can drop off leaves. Those “things” in the front of your yards, the swales, please keep them clear of leaves and limbs. By doing this simple thing, you will prevent the clogging of your drainage pipes which would lead to possible damage to your property. For those who snowbird, remember to take the steps prior to your departure that make it seem you have never left. Your newspaper delivery, your mail, your mowing or shoveling, if needed (let’s hope not), all of the things you would normally do if you were home. Lastly, please be mindful of all of our children. Every day I see them riding their bikes, or walking all over. I also see every day people who do not obey the posted speed limits. Please, for everyone’s sake, please slow down. Major Holidays that will affect your collection days are: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Christmas. When those holidays fall on a Tuesday, garbage collection will be on Wednesday. ANIMALS: Dogs must be leashed or on owner’s property at all times. Wildlife, such as deer and black bear, are common at Pocono Farms. We ask that you NOT FEED any wild animals. EMERGENCIES: For ALL emergencies including medical or fire please contact 911 first, then contact Public Safety at 570-894-4435 x105. WEATHERVANE DEADLINE NOTICE In order to produce a better newspaper for the Community, a Weathervane submission deadline has been established. F un w it h Fitness BY KRISSIE AYLWARD, PFCCA FITNESS DIRECTOR Let’s talk foam rolling. It is the newest craze in the fitness world and from personal experience I really believe in it. Foam rolling is a fantastic way to loosen muscles both before, and after your workouts. They are also great for use during rehab after injury. The biggest benefit of foam rolling is myofacial release. I know, what the heck is myofascial release?
Myofascial release is the application of low-intensity forces to soft tissues (fascia) over a long period of time. Essentially, the purpose is to allow contracted muscles to relax, which improves blood flow and nutrient flow to the area. A foam roller is an inexpensive tool that you can use to accomplish this. What are the benefits of foam rolling? • Increased blood flow • Improved movements • Better range of motion

R ound by R ound BY TIM HOLLAND At the end of August, I had the opportuntity to play in the Play for Pink Golf Tournament. Our foursome included myself, Jeff Jones Sr., Tony Russo, and John Brauning, and what a great day we had! John had not played golf for quite some time so it was a nice experience to introduce John to the golf course for the first time. John has been a resident of Pocono Farms for the last three years and he mentioned that each year, he received vouchers to come out and play at Pocono Farms but never took advantage of them. As we played our round of golf, he was pleasantly surprised at the beauty and condition of our golf course. As we got to know each other throughout the day, John mentioned that his son Sean has developed an interest in the game and attended the golf camp this summer. Sean enjoyed it very much, so John began thinking it would be a great opportunity for the both of them to take up the sport. After playing in the Play for Pink, he realized it was the perfect time to become a member and took advantage of the Fall Special which will give him and his son the opportunity to spend time on the golf course. I recently spoke to John to gain his permission for this article, and during our conversation, he passed along a memory of him and his father. John’s father did not play golf but as John became interested, he and his father began playing golf together. I can attest to this fact too as there is no better way for a father and son to enhance their relationship than on the golf course. I wish them nothing but the best in creating memories as I did with my father. To all the residents of Pocono Farms, please come out to see the golf course, take a lesson, use the practice facility, and fall in love with the game of golf!

ROCK I N’ R ECR E AT ION BY NICK GALLAGHER Fall has arrived and as we break out the hot apple cider, warm fuzzy sweaters, and pumpkin spice everything, the recreation department changes gears for our trips and events. To start off the month of October we will be having another one of our famous Blue Ridge Winery catered dinner events on Friday, October 4th! This wonderful night includes a three course meal with live music, wine sampling, and beautiful fall foliage. If interested, please sign up in our Administration Office, and remember spots fill up fast for this trip!
Congrats to our 2019 League champions for our Wednesday and Fridays Leagues. Since we had a great year I feel that we are all winners and we all should be recognized!
Moving forward we launch right into our Harvest Fest on Saturday, October 19th, from 12-6 pm and will include many activities for all ages. For our older guests we will hold our very own Beer Stein Olympics with many fun filled activists to keep your bellies full and spirits high. If looking to sign up, please have a team of four when signing up at the Administration Office. As for our younger guest at Harvest Fest, we will have Halloween crafts, bouncy houses, candy corn bingo and, of course, pumpkin picking and carving! Harvest Fest will also have live music by Tom Graham from 2-5 pm. If looking to sign up for any of these activities please see our Administration Office. Next we have our Trunk or Treat to celebrate another year of ghouls, goblins and, gremlins running around at our trunk or treat this year on Halloween night October 31st from 4:30 to Dusk. Come enjoy a safe trick or treating environment or sign up in the Administration Office to park your car and see who wins the best and scariest trunk. Lastly, we have our Family Halloween Party, which will have our very own magician and DJ returning to the stage for another night of extravagant acts and show stopping talent, on Sunday, November 3rd from 1-4pm. If you are looking for more candy and fun, sign up in our Administration Office to reserve your spot now, as space is limited.

I also would like to point out a few community members and volunteers that helped mold the recreation department to what it is now. First off I would like to thank The Yesterday Band who performed for a SOLD-OUT crowd and brought the house down with their close to home tunes and killer showmanship. The guys truly are local legends and I was happy to have seen them preform for the last time…. or so you may think. Next I would like to thank the select few volunteers that help me out for many of our holiday and community events. I would like to thank those individuals with a quote, “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.” - Winston Churchill. For those individuals who are willing to lend a helping hand for your community, I want to say thank you for all that you have done. You not only are helping yourself, but those around you. For those of you who wanted to do a little more and volunteer next time, come on down to chat!
