By now we are all finally convinced that winter is behind us, although I did not put the snow blower away until the 30th of April. It is busy time around our yards, clean up is complete and keeping the grass looking good is our goal. Our volunteers hope is they want have to report unkempt yards this year. Of course that would be like batting a thousand, and that has never happened. There are those that are unable to keep up their properties due to illness or disability. For those that are aware of someone like this, try to give them a hand if you can.
Our drivers look forward to June every year, as this is when we all get together for lunch at the Lakeside Grill & Pub. This gives everyone a chance to chat with other drivers that we rarely get to see during the past year. Now would be a nice time to volunteer for Crime Watch. While we do not see much crime, we do see the beauty
of the area that brought us here in the first place. Most residents do their best to keep the Farms looking nice. Our volunteers patrolled sixty hours in April and should log more in the coming months. If you are interested and would like to try a few laps around the Farms, contact Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034, or check with the office so they can contact me.

The Board of Directors at Pocono Farms consists of nine (9) members, at least twenty-one (21) years of age who are members of the Association in good standing. All Directors shall serve a term of three (3) years and shall be without pecuniary compensation. Board member seats shall continue to rotate as staggered terms whereby the terms of three (3) seats shall expire each year. After the expiration of a Director’s first three (3) year term, he/she may seek a second term through the normal election process. All Directors may not succeed themselves at the expiration of two (2) consecutive terms. This year, there are six (6) candidates running for three (3) open Board positions. The candidate bio’s have appeared in the Weathervane the past two months. Please take a moment to review each bio. A printed ballot will be sent to all members of the Association by the print house that produces the balloting packet for the Association, via first class mail with a return envelope addressed to an outside agency as selected by the Board of Directors. The outside agency who will perform the Judge of Election duties, selected by the Board of Directors at the April 2018 Board meeting, is Zavada & Associates. All election ballots, once completed by the member, will be mailed by you, directly to the Judge of Elections. Neither the Association, nor any of its Directors, staff, or management are involved in the tabulation of votes. Procedures are followed to properly ensure a secret vote.

All Board of Director election ballots must be received by the judge of elections ten (10) days prior (no later than July 3rd) to the Annual Meeting on July 14th, 2018. Ballots received from members not in good standing will be disqualified. The voting packet will be sent to the addresses the Association has on file at the Administration office. The ballots themselves will be sent out towards the middle of June to ensure a timely response. The votes shall be tabulated by an outside agency. The sealed envelope with the election results will be opened at the Annual Meeting. Those candidates receiving the highest number of votes for each open position shall be declared elected in the order of the number of votes received. Good luck to the candidates.

UPGRADING OUR AMENITIES
May is gone and June is here.Yeah! For the warmer weather. This article will be short and sweet. I am going to touch upon far too many things that have happened that could have simply been avoided. I am talking about getting a permit for work on your property. I have touched on some of this before, but this will go into a little more depth. The simplest way to avoid any problem with permits is this, “anything I need to do to my property, I will need a permit for”. Now this isn’t really the case, but for the sake of potential problems, let’s pretend it is. Fence, driveway, painting, siding, dumpster, POD, roof, etc., these projects all require a permit but it is free to you. All you need to do is apply. Where the problems occur is when I am driving around and see work being done and there is no permit. The phrase “it is better to ask forgiveness than permission” does not work well with me. Now other permits such as a shed, garage, deck, solar panels, a carport, building a new home or an addition to your home all require a permit that has a fee associated with it. The fee varies with each permit. Also many if not all of these require a township permit as well. So please simply ask the very friendly people in the Fitness center of myself for whatever project is on your honey-do list. We are here to help. As always should you have questions or concerns feel free to call me (570-894-4435 x-105) or just stop by. My door is always open.
Your Board of Directors has decided to improve or upgrade our amenities with these projects finishing as the good weather is upon us. The pool, tennis courts, golf course and clubhouse will all see some great changes to make your experience more enjoyable. We hope you make the most of your amenities during the summer season. L O O K I N G AT T H E F U T U R E
Your Board of Directors has engaged outside help to honestly and objectively look at a long range plan for our community. Obviously, we need the input from our members to round out an initial plan. While not an exact science, long range planning is important and must be adjusted when conditions change. G E T I N V O LV E D I N YO U R C O M M U N I T Y
Personally, it was heartening to see six people run for the Board of Directors. We need more people to get involved in our community. Come to Board meetings and ask questions and give us your opinions. Make sure you attend your community’s Annual Meeting. Get started by volunteering for a committee. This year we don’t have a number of standing committees because we don’t have enough people applying for Board confirmation. Consider running for the Board of Directors when you are comfortable. I want to thank our members for supporting me in the past. Being a Board of Director has been a humbling experience serving our Community. I have learned a lot and enjoyed working with my fellow Board members. This has been a rewarding experience. E N J OY T H E S U M M E R

Happy June! First of all, Happy Father’s Day to the Dad’s in the community! The Recreation Department would like to inform you of some happenings and events, which will take place this month. Our
first session of 2018 Summer Camp (three weeks) will begin on Tuesday, June 26th and last through Thursday, July 12th. Please sign-up at the administration office if you have not done so already.
Our Fourth of July firework show will be on June 30th with a make-up date of July 1st. We will have many activities for kids and adults. Come enjoy the show and events this day! Kayak Club will begin on Saturday, June 16th and last until Saturday, August 18th. Our first club meeting will be Thursday, June 7th at 6 p.m. Kayak Club will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the boat launch behind the fitness center. Please come and enjoy the day on the water! You will be supplied with life jackets, kayaks and paddles. This is for all ages and experience levels. For anyone who is younger than 16 years old, parents must be present at the meeting. We would like to congratulate our 2017/2018 season dart champions: Frank Milano, Mike Elbert and former recreation director Joe Sprovkin. They were able to win back-to-back seasons. What a feat! Who will take them down in 2018/2019? Be sure to check-in next season, as our dart league will start sometime in the winter months. The anticipation is finally over. Our bus is up and running! Wildlife, such as deer and black bear, are common at Pocono Farms. We ask that you NOT FEED any wild animals. Kayak Club
For anyone who has interest in learning how to kayak safely and have fun while doing it‌ This club is for you! Kayak Club Meeting: Thursday, June 7th 6 p.m. in community room Kayak Club starts Saturday, June 16th and continues every Saturday from 10am to 12pm until Saturday, August 18th. The club will meet at the boat launching dock located behind the fitness center building. We will provide a limited number of kayaks, oars, and life vests but if you have your own equipment please bring it to help ensure that everyone who attends gets to go kayaking. June 16th is the first day and will have a review of all the safety precautions involved with kayaking. At every club meeting there will be a review of safety concerns before anyone is allowed on the water. This is for all ages and experience levels. Retired 31 years Local 94 HV/AC operations engineer union, Veteran of Navy Seals during Vietnam conflict Please describe committees, clubs, volunteer work and other activities in which you have participated. I have been on L/R Committee, Finance Committee, Crime Watch, Fitness Center. I also Applied for the House Committee, Fitness Committee, and volunteered for veterans assistance over the years. I was a manager for 14 years of Commercial Building What is your motivation for seeking a seat on the Board of Directors? To try and contain the spending on certain items brought up to the board. If elected, in what areas do you hope to influence the Board concerning the direction and governance of this community? I will try to influence the board on spending in the best interest of our community, especially the senior homeowners. Why should the membership elect you to the Board of Directors? I will represent the community to my full advantage and not something that is brought up at board meetings.

ANNA LOPEZ How many years have you been a member of the Farms? Over a year. What is your occupation? Anna Lopez a Wife and Mother is a successful Business analyst and activists for over 20 years. She works with corporations, nonprofits and unions to improve competitiveness and performance across broad spectrums of criteria. Some of her specialization are in Contracts, Education, Finance, Human Resources, Health Care and Project Management. Please describe committees, clubs, volunteer work and other activities in which you have participated. Anna has worked with a federal grant of 3 million with CMO Montifiore proving that managed care can reduce medical cost and it did save Medicare $24.5 million in its first year with developing a program with a call center and nurse case management enrolling Bronx, NY residents to pilot the program. Anna has also developed a 6 million dollar Lead teacher project that was for teacher retention and principal development contracted role; with a Student achievement gap solution which resulted in 45 present increase in state reading and math test in its first year within the worst 10 performing schools in the city. Anna has also served as a NYC Education Board Member for 4 years including the retirement Board that out preformed all other funds compared to in the city of New York City Municipalities. During her term as school board official She was instrumental in building new school buildings and restructuring the procurement process by which included the public and close board oversights. Describe any skills, talents, or specialized training, which as a Board Member, you feel will be beneficial to the community. Anna is certified trained in project management MCTS, Senior HR professional SPHR , Business Analyzing CBAP, Technologist MT, Oracle Database 11g Administrator ODACP, NYC Government Procurements Certified, various systems operations such as but not limited to financial accounting with SAP. What is your motivation for seeking a seat on the Board of Directors? Anna wants to ensure both entity and people profit and improve their life work in both skill and honor. PETER VOLPE How many years have you been a member of the Farms? 28 years. What is your occupation? Retired Please describe committees, clubs, volunteer work and other activities in which you have participated. Four times in the past, I have had the privilege of serving on the Board of Directors and at times serving as the Association’s Vice President. I have been on the Finance Committee, Crime Watch, Pool Committee, Recreation Committee and House Committee. Describe any skills, talents, or specialized training, which as a Board Member, you feel will be beneficial to the community. I am a people person who listens to what people are really saying. I have a good feel for what is really happening with our Community. I have been involved in many of the activities of Pocono Farms for the last twenty-eight years. I have a good sense of our history and feel for what should be done now. What is your motivation for seeking a seat on the Board of Directors? I am motivated by a sense of giving back to the Community that I love to live in. Betty Ann and I are fortunate that our daughter Jaclyn enjoyed growing up in Pocono Farms. If elected, in what areas do you hope to influence the Board concerning the direction and governance of this community? I would encourage future Boards to maximize the return on our amenities while using the fiscal prudence needed in the challenging economic times. We must adapt our policies to the changing population. Why should the membership elect you to the Board of Directors? I am an open-minded, objective person who comes in with no agenda except to keep Pocono Farms moving forward in the direction that will benefit all of us.

Christian Porter, a 24-year-old Pennsylvania native, is your regular allAmerican guy…but with extraordinaire musical talents. The young singer/ songwriter became interested in music after learning to play the piano at a very young age, which helped inspire him to pursue other musical instruments (he also plays the guitar, drums, bass and ukulele). Starring in his first musical in the sixth grade, Christian grew accustomed to the stage and the limelight, traits that would only help fuel his future career. At 14, Christian started playing the guitar. A year later, he wrote his first original song, “Why Can’t You See,” and started to play at open mics around Stroudsburg. Christian went into the studio and self-recorded his first album in 2008 when he was just 16 years old. With a soulful pop sound, Christian’s music is truly unforgettable and comprised of melodic beats and heart filled lyrics. In 2012, Christian released his all-new EP, All About You, which consists of five original songs. Currently, the unsigned artist is looking to expand his career and talents, while providing fans and music lovers with unique sounds that convey truth, realness and passion.

We just finished up our Chakra Practice workshop with Abby Denny and what an experience. Not only did we learn all about the seven chakras but we also learned about the practice of Yoga, the history and different yoga poses to benefit the body and mind. Yoga has been found to improve your immune system, reduce diabetes, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase self confidence. Yoga also helps improve the memory, aides in digestion, helps in weight loss, and helps to make you live longer. The PFCCA fitness center currently holds a chair yoga class in the Garden Room that is open to all residents of the Farms. Chair Yoga is currently held on Tuesday from 10:30 am – 11:30 am and Friday from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. To attend the class you need to purchase a class card or be a current Inclusive fitness member. This summer we are continuing with Yoga on the Beach. Yoga on the Beach was a hit last summer and we would love to have more of the community join us this summer. The class will be held on Sunday at 9 am beginning July 1st. Again, to attend this class you need to purchase a Yoga on the Beach class card or be a current inclusive fitness member. We may have to meet in the classroom if the weather isn’t cooperating so please watch your email blasts for updates. Class cards are available in the Administration Office during regular office hours. Cards are $25 for a 5 class card. We hope to see you on the beach for a little yoga! HANDICAP CHAIRMAN LETTER OF INFORMATION Dear Pocono Farms Golfer: Welcome to the 2018 golf season at Pocono Farms. The weather is finally breaking and the course is in great condition. This season should be a great one. The role of the Handicap Chairman is to ensure the integrity and accuracy of all the handicaps of those golfers at Pocono Farms Country Club who play competitive golf. It is also the responsibility of the Handicap Chairman to ensure that all golfers who play in competitive events comply with the requirements of the USGA Handicap System. Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System, namely that each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round and that every player will post every acceptable round for peer review. By accomplishing these objectives, our competitive events will be fairer and more enjoyable for all who play. To accomplish these objectives myself along with the Golf Committee and Kyle are asking that one scorecard be turned into the pro-shop per group after the completion of every round played this season. The reasons for doing this are as follows: to assist in all matters at Pocono Farms relating to the USGA Handicap System, to ensure scores are being posted both timely and accurately and to obtain scoring trends. As it relates to scoring trends and more specifically course rating it has been decided to wait at least 2 years to re-rate the golf course. The USGA states that courses must be re-rated at least every 10 years, or if it is a new golf course, within 5 years. A course must also be re-rated if significant changes have been made to the course. Several factors are used to determine the rating of the course and one important one is defined as “Obstacle Factors”. Obstacles can be trees, water hazards, recoverability and rough to name a few. Since our course is currently going through a tree removal project, those obstacles are in a state of change. Major changes will also be implemented to the Rules of Golf starting on January 1, 2019, with changes to hazard definitions and penalty strokes. When we do re-rate the golf course we want it to be done right and provide the most accurate rating as possible, doing that now with physical changes being made to the course and ahead of the USGA rules changes would not give the most beneficial data. The scorecards that are collected each day will not only be used to ensure scores are being posted accurately and timely, but also to obtain trending information as these changes to the course and to the rules take place for both men and women scoring trends may also change.
