We provide a limited number of kayaks, oars, and life vests. If you have your own equipment, please meet at the dock. At every club meeting there will be a review of safety precautions before anyone is allowed on the water. This is for all ages and experience levels. For anyone who is younger than 16 years old, a parent must accompany the child. No Lifeguards on duty during Kayak Club

Every February we can’t wait until July gets here. The kids are out of school, the pool is full and maybe the grass can go another week before it needs cutting. Well, it’s here and does it have to get so hot? Maybe a little September weather would do; for a few days anyway.

The new year has been quiet here in the Farms. The most we have had to talk about is the unusually snowy weather. I’m sure our Public Safety staff and the local police are happy and hope it stays that way. We have all received a notice from PP&L that new electric meters are to be installed this year. This might be a prime time to stay on our toes and look to see that someone claiming to be a PP&L installer is in fact from the PP&L contractor. This is the kind of opportunity that a ne’er do well would use to try to gain access to your house.

Last fall, there were a number of times people were burning brush or scrap in their yards. Even though it has been a very wet spring, there never is a time we can burn within the Farms. Other arrangements will have to be made to get rid of brush or scrap wood. Soon, committees will be setting up for the coming year. You do not have to be a crime watch driver in order to apply for the committee, although we would encourage you to become one. Committees are always better if new people with new ideas get involved. During the month of April 12 drivers drove for 64 hours, in May, 14 drivers spent 94 hours on the roads. Think about joining us or the committee. Summer is finally here and the pool is open! Put on your suits, grab your towels and head to the pool before the summer is over! Bring a book, get some sun or let the kids play all day long. We have something for everyone at the pool. Adult swim will be available Monday, Wednesday & Friday 6pm-7pm & Tuesday, Thursday 11am-12pm. Bring the kids for Monday Mania and Flippin’ Fridays where there will be games and contests from 3pm-4pm at the pool. Please note all members must have their updated badges to enter the pool or beach area. Guests at
the pool will be required to pay a $8.00 fee. Our pool staff is excited for another season and look forward to seeing you at the pool. Pocono Farms Swim Team is underway and ready for competition. The swim team is open to members in good standing from ages 5-18. Applications are in the office sign up today or come cheer the team on and show your community pride! Support the team or make a donation as they swim “Laps for Cancer,” July 7th from 8am-11am and raise money to donate to Hospice Services
here in Monroe County. It’s a wonderful event for a great cause, come be part of it and stay afterwards for our Tricky Tray at the pool. There’s lots to do and be part of here at the Farms all you need to do is join!

Hello everyone. Summer is here and we have been busy. Just a few quick reminders so you won’t have to get those pesky letters from me. First off, the grass; remember it must be mowed. I do mine every 7-10 days. When we have lots of rain it is done every five. There are some who haven’t touched their’s once yet this year, yes letters and fines have gone out. Please don’t be on my list. Second, is dogs. Again! We have discussed this before, but we will go over it again. Can you put your dog outside, yes you can. But your dog cannot bark all day annoying all your neighbors. The rule of the Farms is all dogs must be on a leash, they cannot run loose. This is also Pennsylvania State Law. You must be in control of your dogs at all times; you just cannot open your door and let them run free. Yes, even on your property “Fido” is to be on a leash or tether of some sort. Not running over onto the neighbor’s property or down the road. Lastly loud noises, or music. It’s summer, I get it. You want to relax and listen to whatever you like to listen too, I get it. I listen to everything. It makes no difference if you are blaring Metallica or Beethoven, The Beach Boys or The Beastie Boys, Benny Goodman or Garth Brooks. It is not the style, type, or anything with the big thumping bass to it. Regardless of what kind of music it is, the music is to be kept at reasonable levels and it should be free of profanity. We have to be sympathetic to our neighbors and them not wanting to hear every curse word known to man in a song just because it has a nice beat to it. As always if you have questions or concerns just call or stop by, my door is always open.

When you take advantage of the Summer Slim Down special, you will receive $5 off the 5K registration fee and a COUCH to 5K beginner training plan. This plan will give you the opportunity to use the new treadmills, attend different group fitness classes and get to know the fitness center. Not to mention, you’ll be ready to walk or run on September 16th as long as you stick to the plan. Remember you must be a resident in good standing to take advantage of this special. One of the classes you will have the opportunity to attend is Yoga on the Beach. Our yoga instructor, Abby Denny, will lead a beautiful yoga class under the morning sun with the serene lake as the back drop. Join us beginning Sunday July 1st at 9am and each Sunday thereafter. If the weather is not cooperating, we will meet in the fitness center classroom. Another addition to the class line up will be a Friday evening Pilates class. I know you have asked for more evening classes and Abby was willing to take on the challenge. So come in and join her Friday evenings thru the summer months. She does not disappoint!!! Happy July! At this point we are beginning our summer camp and have begun our kayak club and bocce league. Thank you to all who participate! The recreation department would like to inform you of some happenings and events, which will take place this month. We hope you enjoy our annual Fourth of July firework show and Freedom fest! Special thanks to all of our staff who are able to hold such great events! Our first camp night of
the season will take place this month. Tennis and Pickle-ball will also be back! Please read details below. Our Fourth of July firework show will be on June 30th with a make-up date of July 1st. We will have many activities for kids and adults. Come enjoy the show and events this day! Freedom fest will be on Saturday, July 7th. There
will be a rock-wall for climbing and brand new ‘Mad Hungarian’ comedy & magic show. Be the first to witness the magic! Kayak Club is held at the boat launch every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Please enjoy kayaking on our beautiful lake if you haven’t done so already. This is a great way to have an amazing kayaking experience. Tennis and Pickle Ball are here! Please join us for our first meeting of the year on Thursday, July 12th at 5:30 p.m. in the community room. All ages are welcome. Pocono Farms will be looking to setup instruction, clinic, league and tournament(s) August through October. We will have leagues and tournaments set-up for youth and adults. Our first camp night will be held under the stars on Friday, July 27th. Parents and children are welcome to bring their own tent and camp out on the beach. There will be a movie, smores and a bon-fire for enjoyment.
BY TIM HOLLAND, GOLF CHAIRMAN 2018 POCONO FARMS GOLF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
I again had the privilege of sitting in and awarding the golf community sponsored scholarships for this year. I find this the most rewarding of all the facets of being the golf chairman, as I am humbled by what these young adults have contributed to their respective schools as well as Pocono Farms Community. This year we awarded one individual with both the golf scholarship as well as the Bob Stephens Memorial Scholarship, due to her commitment to scholastic achievement and work ethic. Both recipients will be acknowledged during the Member/Member dinner this year. It is with great pleasure to introduce the two recipients for this year. Golf Scholarship: The Bob Stephens Memorial Scholarship: Mr. Ryan Green • Ms. Taylor Fagan • Ms. Taylor Fagan During the last eleven years the scholarship program has awarded over $ 38,000 to 36 Pocono Farms college bound students. Contributions to this fund are made through various golf outings and individual generosity of our members. Scholarships have also been awarded through funds set up by family and friends memorializing past members of the club who gave so much of their time and effort to make Pocono Farms what it is today. As a note for future reference, applicants do not have to be golfers to apply or be awarded one of the scholarships. The criteria are listed on the application. As stated previously, the golfing members and golfing community of Pocono Farms sponsors and raises money to fund this scholarship program through various means, and the funds distributed come solely from golf and individual contributions.
Our monthly recreation meeting will take place on Thursday, July 12th 7 p.m. in the community room. The anticipation is finally over. Our bus is up and running! Be sure to check the weathervane in the upcoming months for scheduled trips! D I D YO U K N O W…
