This year we are excited to have a finance committee again. This may seem small, but a strong finance committee assists the Board with the review of the budget and reviews the monthly financial statements. Additionally, the finance committee will be involved with the yearly audit along with any other items that the Board may assign to the committee. Looking ahead, although the summer season is our busiest, our Food & Beverage department, along with our recreation staff, do plan events and activities throughout the winter season as well. Please review the programs in the Weathervane and our email blasts. By now, our new website should be ready to roll out. Please make sure if you change your email provider that you contact the Administration Office to update your address so that you do not miss out on any of the exciting and fun filled events we host at Pocono Farms. Also, as the New Year starts, stop by and see Krissie, our Fitness Director. She has many different membership and fitness class options for you to choose from.

Welcome to 2020!! As each calendar year rolls over, we should be excited about the upcoming year. For those of us in operations, we continue to strive to make changes that benefit the community. These changes could range from adding new programs and events to subtle changes in the services we provide to our members and their guests. All of which culminate in making the Pocono Farms community the best it can be. Although we may not agree on the path chosen or the processes implemented, the Board and management always have the big picture in mind, and that is doing our best to continue to enhance the property values within Pocono Farms.

Our Chili Cookoff is always a crowd pleaser and this year did not disappoint! The Community Update is always a great way to grab a cup of coffee, a Danish, and hear the latest news from our management team. Our banquet room features delicious specials and live music; it is a great way to spend a nice evening out without leaving the community. If you have not dined with us yet, our restaurant is family friendly, affordable, and a gem to have so close to home. Our management team spent countless hours working with our vendor in the development of a new, updated, efficient website to keep our residents up to date. If you had a login on the old website, it should still be valid on the new site. If you did not, take a few moments to register, you will not be sorry.

As a board, our focus is always on fiscally responsible management of the community. We are always looking for ways to increase participation and involvement by our community. We take any and all ideas seriously, so if you have something you would like to share, whether it is an idea for an event in the banquet room, a trip, or something you would like to see happen here, please email us at idea@poconofarms.com. Although resolutions are usually something you make in January, it is not too late to make some Pocono Farms resolutions. Maybe this is the year you will try a round of golf. Maybe you will resolve to visit the pool 10 times with your family this summer or join Mommy / Daddy and Me with your toddler. Thinking of trying a class at the fitness center? Want to join a committee? Try Mahjong? JUST DO IT! There are so many opportunities to get involved with your friends and family here at the Farms. Checking the calendar section in both the Weathervane and the website is a great way to see what is going on each month. Pocono Farms is a friendly and very welcoming community, give something new a try this year. Make 2020 the year you get more involved here at Pocono Farms. You will be glad you did!

P u blic Sa fet y BY ARTIE FURM AN February, the second month of the year, is already upon us. With any luck the gentle hand of Mother Nature has continued to gently caress our brow, or has she started to pummel us like an MMA fighter. Alas, only time will tell. Even though we are in the midst of winter, things are busy here in the Farms. I am sure you have seen the new homes being built and others under repair. Tree permits are being submitted already, as well as shed and fence permits. It seems the cold does not deter some of us. Also, as you may have heard mentioned during our Community Update in January, fire hydrants and their locations were discussed. As of now there are 27 fire hydrants within the confines of the Farms. The list is too long to write here but, should you wish to know their locations just stop by my office, or give me a call, and I will happily provide you with that information. The reason is that generally if your home is within 1000 feet of a hydrant, your homeowner insurance carrier may give you a discount on your policy. I also have a map made up that shows all the locations for your visual reference. Lastly, I would like to thank all of you for your kind words and well wishes because of the minor health issues I had experienced. They were all truly heartfelt and appreciated. Cr i m e Watch Ac t i v it y R eport BY RUSS KELLY I have often thought something has to be done that could give someone a reason to look forward to February. So, I assume the thinkers of their day came up with Valentine’s Day; Washington’s Birthday would be appropriate, and later, a perfect time for the Super Bowl to be played. If you think about it, the best thing about February is; it is closer to April than January. The holidays from Thanksgiving to Christmas and New Years are such festive times; you do not really think about the weather and go through any condition to gather for the good times to be had. But February, we hunker down and do our best to get through the 28 or 29 days hoping the oil and gas trucks can get to us before the furnace runs out of fuel or breaks down. But fear not, our neighborhood watch volunteers seem to be able to weather the storms, and while Super Bowl parties may keep them off the road, the ravaging storms of February will be overcome. You would think we were a group of 25 year olds unafraid of the elements and the perils of driving in snow and ice. But those of us that still have hair, usually gray, or at least have our hair dressers color to order. How great it would be if the newly retired and homebodies would join us to keep this group going. As years have passed, many of the volunteers have moved or, for reasons of health, have given up driving the roads. Unless some of you can join us for a few hours a month, it will not be long before neighborhood watch joins the many committees that can no longer function. We are just “neighbors looking out for neighbors” something we all know is a good idea, and maybe a nice memory you have from your years growing up. Over the past few months the patrol logged about 150 hours. Hopefully our patrols prevented packages being taken off porches or discouraged anyone thinking they could break into a home. A couple of hours a month does not seem like too much to ask of ourselves. Call Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034 or the Administration office, 570-894-4435, if you would like to give it a try.

Love is in the air so why not fall in love with fitness? The Fitness Center has added new classes to the lineup, and they are filling up fast!! TRX class on Tuesday evenings is a hit and fills up each week. That tells me we need another time slot to offer the class but let’s see if we can fill a morning class. TRX will now be offered Thursday mornings at 9 am beginning February 6, 2020. This is a class that you must sign up for as space is limited. You can call the Administration Office to sign up or just stop in and add your name to the sign-up sheet. I will remind you that this is a suspension and resistance training class that will push you to the next level. This is a great class for those at all levels, so I invite you to join in the TRX fun!!

Another great addition to our Fitness Center will be childcare!!! Nick, our Recreation Director, and his staff will be available in the Garden View Room Monday evenings during our Butts & Guts class to offer toys, games, movies, TV and excellent adult supervision to your children while you work out or attend class. Childcare will be offered Mondays from 5:15 pm until 6:45 pm. You must be a current gym member to take advantage of this service. Please do not forget that we now offer gift certificates. So, if you have a friend who would be interested in joining the Fitness Center or just taking classes please think about grabbing them a gift certificate. The New Year is here, and I hope everyone is healthy and looking forward to a new beginning. Most people up here, on top of the mountain, are not thinking golf this time of the year, but we do have a group always thinking about it, the golf committee. We will be having meetings as we look for ways to improve the game and make it enjoyable for you.
Our General Manager, Dave, our PGA Professional, Kyle, and our Golf Course Superintendent, Jeff, are always putting their heads together finding ways to save money, seeing what is good for our members, and seeing how it can be instituted.
We are always looking for new members, new outings, and new ideas on how we can improve on what we have; A gem in the middle of the forest. Management works all year looking for ways for you to enjoy yourself, and
Being a member here for 39 years I have seen the beginning where the course went from 9 holes to 18 holes the year before I became a member. Money was tight, but we managed. We went private not long after and had a great market for our golf course. The market fell and all golf courses were looking for ways of getting members. We came thru
it, not as well as we liked, but the members love the game and enjoy one another, that is the Pocono Farms Family. There were changes made to the original lay out. The 10th hole had rocks and underbrush that was just horrible. There was a debate to put a sand waste or grass, as you see grass won. The 18th hole had a sand bunker on the left at about 150 yards out, that was leveled, and grass was put there. At the right side we put mounds there (Dolly Parton) to stop balls from running into the woods, again thinking of members.
This community is spectacular. When my wife Gail and I came here we were weekenders. We told ourselves this is where we would retire so we built our home where we now live. We have a friendly

R ock i n R ecr e at ion BY NICK GALLAGHER I would like to start off by thanking the participants who entered the Chili and Wing cook off on January 11, 2020. Having the community come together and share their famous recipes is always a delicious event. I want to also give a shout out to those members who came out to our community update to share their perspective and interests to better our community. Moving forward into the month of February, recreation has events planned for you to enjoy a day or night of fun in this cold weather. First off, we have our annual Super Bowl party on February 2, 2020 with kick off starting at 6:30! Enjoy our super bowl station food selections and drink specials. Next, we have the infamous Regina Sayles on Valentine’s Day to set the mood for a wonderful night out at the Lakeside Grill and Pub. If you are interested in a great night with your significant other, contact Katrina to make your reservation. Our next event will be our wonderful Presidents’ Day brunch on February 16, 2020. Indulge in the wide spread of fine food and drinks with the Pocono Farms Community. Lastly, recreation will be hosting a wine tour event that includes a tasting and a glass at Sorrenti’s, Renegade Winery, and at Blue Ridge Winery. The winery trip will also include a stop at Sarah Street Grill for lunch. Transportation will leave from Pocono Farms at 10:00am and arrive back late afternoon. This event will take place on February 29, 2020. Interested in signing up? Stop by the Administration Office! Recreation would also like to announce that Pocono Farms will be hosting a Red Cross Certified CPR/AED course Wednesday March 18th, at 5pm for members of the community.
