The summer season is the reason that we live in a community as beautiful as Pocono Farms. We endure the harsh winters for the promise of warm sunny summer days full of community activities with our fellow community members. This summer is no different and there are many exciting events scheduled for the season. The word of the season is PARTICIPATE!

During the summer all of our amenities are in full swing and strive to offer the most interesting and inclusive opportunities for fun and relaxation in the farms. The recreation department will begin its summer programs including the Kids Summer Kickoff, kayak club, Bocce and Texas Hold’em tournament.

The pool and lake have begun the season and water aerobics and our swim team begin this month. All of our amenities offer lessons for those who are interested; tennis, swimming, fitness, and golf all employ qualified professions ready and willing to help you get stated with what interests you.

Remember, you do not have to be a member of the golf course to enjoy a round; all residents are able to use the course. Also, the Thursday night golf league offers a low pressure environment for some fun on the course and you also do not need to be a golf member, or an avid golfer to participate.

The clubhouse will continue to offer community events throughout the season, so please have a look at the events calendar on the website or in the Weathervane for upcoming events. This month we have a Night of Rock and Roll, the women’s club tricky tray, and as always a quality dining experience available to you.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to participate in any of the community sponsored activities before, please take the time to find something that interests you. If you are already active in the community I think you will be excited for what the staff has to offer this year.

Each year the board reviews the previous year and also offer up items for community vote which are crucial to the continued success of our community. You will receive the board voting ballots in the mail, which you should read through and return. This month’s community update will preview the voting issues for our annual meeting and following that, you will have the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates and the Meet the Candidates event.

Thoughts from the Manager

Within the next few weeks, we will be sending out some very important information to the members of Pocono Farms. We are close to that time of year where you, as members, have a say in the direction of Pocono Farms.

There will be (3) three items being sent out: • The election ballots for the (3) three open Board of Director positions will be mailed. Each year, 3 of 9 Board positions are open.

• The voting issues that will be voted on at the annual meeting • The announcement of the Annual meeting date (although the meeting date was announced last August), this is just a reminder.

The election of the Directors by the members of Pocono Farms truly represents who we are. The members choose who they feel will represent their interests the best. I will say that the Boards that I have worked with have done what they felt was best for the entire community. They were elected to the Board with no hidden agendas. Some of the

decisions made are not always the most popular ones, however, were done in the best interests of everyone within Pocono Farms. Maintaining the property values within Pocono Farms is a recurring theme for most Directors. This is a difficult task in the past few years, and I trust the new Directors will do their best to do just that. The voting issues are mailed out with the Annual meeting announcement. This mailing is sent out towards the end of June. The mailing will state the meeting date – July 18th at 10 am along with listing the voting issues with a brief description of each issue.

This will allow those voting at the annual meeting on the issues to become familiar with them.

On June 27th at 11am is your chance to meet the candidates in person. The election and nomination committee hosts the “Meet the Candidates” event.

Each candidate will have a chance to answer a series of questions asked by the committee. This program lasts about an hour so that it does not take up too much of your time out of your day.

We will also host a Community update at 10 am just before the meet the candidates event. We will use this opportunity to update the membership in attendance of the first 5 months performance along with discussion of the potential voting issues. We hope to see you there.

We’re into the nicest time of the year in the Poconos. Not too hot, but sunny and breezy.

Makes you want to cut your lawn, well maybe not that nice. Speaking of lawns, the A&B Committee has asked us to be aware of unkempt lawns and yards this time of year. We don’t measure the height of the grass, but we all can recognize when the yard is being ignored. So, save the office the stamp and letter that reminds you to bring things up to par. The nice weather in April allowed our volunteers to patrol for eighty-four hours. A few of the snowbirds have landed so I think we will get a few more hours logged in May. In June we have our annual luncheon, and usually get a speaker from the local police department. I recently read about a similar get together where a woman said she didn’t keep a gun in the house but asked if was advisable to keep pepper spray on hand. The policeman said it would be better to have a can of wasp spray handy. The spray could reach up to twenty feet and would temporarily blind anyone hit with the spray. I’m not aware of a holster for the spray can being available. Another recommendation was to keep your car keys on your bed stand. In case of an unexpected visitor, hitting the button to activate your horn will normally be as effective as an alarm system.

It is such a nice time of year to be out driving around the Farms. Why not put a couple of crime watch signs on your car and spend a few hours enjoying the local scenery? If you are interested, call Ed Aalbue at 570-894-8071 or Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034, or you can always call the office.

Each year you, as a Pocono Farms homeowner, have the opportunity and the responsibility to select those of your fellow members who will serve you on our Board of Directors. You have a voice in your Association and its future through our Board of Directors.

Take this opportunity to inform yourself, and then vote for the candidates who you believe will be the best people to work with OUR other Board members to guide our Association towards the future.

Thomas J. Stultz How many years have you been a member of the Farms? 17 years

What is your occupation? I am a stay-at-home dad but, prior to that role, worked in the engineering division of Transistor Devices.

Our May luncheon was held on Wednesday May 13th at the Clubhouse.

Please describe committees, clubs, volunteer work and other activities in which you have participated. I have been an active golf committee member for five years and have participated in several swim team activities. My family and I can be found at most of the community sponsored events hosted at the Clubhouse or by the golf club.

Our President Joan Schipper thanked our hostesses Tressa Delli Santi and Darlene Schultz and then recognized guests, birthdays and anniversaries.

Lorraine Piel our new Sunshine and Spiritual person said grace and a prayer for all members. Our major fund raiser for the year is our Tricky Tray and this year it will be on Friday June 19th. We use the money made from this event to contribute to various charities in our area. We had many great baskets and prizes last year and are hoping for even more this year. The cost will be an Initial buy of $6.00 for 20 tickets and $4.00 for extra tickets. There will also be special prizes and a 50/50. Look in the Newsletter for more information.

After lunch we had two speakers from the American Red Cross, Michelle Baehr and Beth Klotz they spoke about the many ways the Red Cross aides the families when there is a fire or other natural disaster. Beth also mentioned that if you want to volunteer you can go online to do so. They also gave out Disaster bags that contained various items in case of emergency.

We had two winners for our 50/50 and Joan Ludwig and Bea Allum were chosen as hostesses for the next lunch.

Remember that our meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Pocono Farms clubhouse. We are always looking for new members and would love to see some new faces.

Describe any skills, talents, or specialized training, which as a Board Member, you feel will be beneficial to the community. I have an accounting background which will serve while working with the community’s budget. I am adept at computer development, computer construction, server development and repairs. In addition, I am a certified Radon specialist.

What is your motivation for seeking a seat on the Board of Directors? My family and I have lived in Pocono Farms since 1998.

Throughout those years, I have seen our community advance as one of the leading associations in the Poconos. I am proud to participate in activities and feel it is my responsibility to continue the hard work of our previous Board members. As a father, I want to see our community enriched by wholesome activities for all of our families.

If elected, in what areas do you hope to influence the Board concerning the direction and governance of this community? I want to further the advancement of Pocono Farms in a fiscally responsible manner.

Why should the membership elect you to the Board of Directors? I pride myself on being an approachable and friendly person. I have a knack for seeing varying perspectives. I value knowledge and will do my due diligence when researching topics related to my post as a Board member. I will collaborate with other members of the Board to make decisions which are in the best interest of all Pocono Farms residents.

Marilou Preus How many years have you been a member of the Farms? 1 ½ years here – Lived in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri for 11 years prior – Born and raised in Quincy, MA What is your occupation? Currently a Sales Representative for Avon (for many years) and am also in Film Production in NYC. Retired from Massachusetts local law enforcement.

Please describe committees, clubs, volunteer work and other activities in which you have participated. I volunteer my time with Pocono Farms Crime Watch – A member of our delightful PF Ladies Club of which we raise monies for various charities throughout the region. Also an avid golfer here at PFCC and a member of PF Ladies Golf Association.

Describe any skills, talents, or specialized training, which as a Board Member, you feel will be beneficial to the community. Throughout my years, I have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering countless hours on various committees and boards in hopes of, and successfully, bettering our communities. Would love to add my experiences and ideas to the Pocono Farms Family Community by serving our residents. My only wish is to carry on the enthusiasm our current board projects and continue to make Pocono Farms the beautiful area that it truly is!

What is your motivation for seeking a seat on the Board of Directors? Pocono Farms CC offers so very much to it’s families yet the attendance factor is not always capitalized. My motivation is to try to keep things moving ahead on a positive note with sincerity, fairness and warmth all in a welcoming, friendly atmosphere.

If elected, in what areas do you hope to influence the Board concerning the direction and governance of this community?

I am applying for this voluntary position to not only share all concerns and solutions with our already active Board, but to offer perhaps new ideas and suggestions in order to allow this beautiful community to continue on as it was originally proposed to be – a friendly, family oriented vibrant area here in the Poconos.

Why should the membership elect you to the Board of Directors? To keep our Board of Directors fresh with a terrific mix of character and new representation of which only benefits any and all Board of Directors.

Cost management and to deliver the quality of life all residents expect.

Why should the membership elect you to the Board of Directors? I want to represent all residents of PFCC. I have been a resident of Pocono Farms for 28 years. In that time, I’ve seen many changes, most positive. I raised 3 children here, the community of Pocono Farms has been a positive influence in their lives, through the many residents that have been a part of their lives and the many activities. It gave us, as a family, a true sense of community. Pocono Farms is an extension of our family.

Over the years, I’ve tried to be involved in many activities and committees to help our community be the best it can be at all times. I created the community scholarship program to help our students get a start in college. I’ve turned our annual luau into a fundraising event for our swim team, to help them with some of their expenses. Volunteered for many community activities, and supported all of our amenities over the years. I want to serve the community on the Board to help this community grow for the future together.

Peter A Volpe How many years have you been a member of the Farms? 25 What is your occupation? I am retired from both the New York City Police Dept. and Pocono Mountain School District.

Please describe committees, clubs, volunteer work and other activities in which you have participated. Three times in the past, I have had the privilege of serving on the Board of Directors and at times served as the Association’s Vice President. I have been on the Crime Watch, Pool Committee, Recreation Committee and House Committee. I have also served as the Vice President for the school union, Past Commander of AMVETS Post 248. Presently I am on the Finance committee and serve as a member of Pocono Mountain Regional Police Commission.

Describe any skills, talents, or specialized training, which as a Board Member, you feel will be beneficial to the community.

I am a people person who listens to what people are really saying. I have a good feel for what is really happening with our Community. I have been involved in many activities of Pocono Farms for the last twenty-five years. I have a good sense of our history and feel for what should be done now.

What is your motivation for seeking a seat on the Board of Directors? I am motivated by a sense of giving back to the Community that I love to live in. Betty Ann and I are fortunate that our daughter Jaclyn has been enjoying the Pocono Farms’ experience for her entire life.

If elected, in what areas do you hope to influence the Board concerning the direction and governance of this community?

I would encourage future Boards to maximize the return on our amenities while using the fiscal prudence needed in these challenging economic times. We must adapt our policies to the changing needs of a changing population.

Why should the membership elect you to the Board of Directors? I am an open-minded, objective person who comes in with no agenda except to keep Pocono Farms moving forward in the direction that will benefit all of us.

If elected I will use my unique skill set and perspective to work together with the board and the community in order to increase community participation at our facilities and events, while making sure that fiscal responsibility and efficiency remain a top priority.

Major Holidays that will affect your collection days are: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Christmas. When those holidays fall on a Monday or Tuesday, garbage collection will shift by one day.

Animals: Dogs must be leashed or on owner’s property at all times.

Wildlife, such as deer and black bear, are common at Pocono Farms. We ask that you NOT FEED any wild animals.

What is your occupation? Semi-retired since 2010. Currently a consultant to the life science industry and have 2 Board nominations pending, one will be a public company on the NYSE and the other a privately held company in northeastern PA. Prior to Pfizer’s acquisition of Wyeth in 2009, I was the Corporate vice President and Deputy Controller of Wyeth worldwide. Wyeth was a leading healthcare company that sold over $24 billion in human pharmaceuticals, vaccines & biologic products, animal health products and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals such as Advil, Centrum and Chap-Stick in over 146 countries. During my 18 years at Wyeth, I held progressive senior leadership positions in finance, manufacturing operations and mergers & acquisitions.

Please describe committees, clubs, volunteer work and other activities in which you have participated. Chairperson of the PFCCA Finance Committee (last 3 years), Co-chairperson of the Most Holy Trinity/St Ann Church Golf Tournament for the last 17 years, Youth Basketball Coach (since retiring) – Pocono Mountain East Youth Basketball Association (1year) and Msgr. McHugh Catholic School (2 years), PFCCA Annual Premium Golf Member for over 20 years, PFCCA Fitness Center Founding member.

Describe any skills, talents, or specialized training, which as a Board Member, you feel will be beneficial to the community.

I believe my financial and operating skills, both from my years at Wyeth and from my 16 years in public accounting, will be a benefit to the “business” side of PFCCA. My work experiences are in many different industries and sizes of companies, from small business start-ups, to multi-billion global companies. In addition, I have spent many years coaching both basketball and baseball teams in Tobyhanna, as well as helping with the Pocono Farms Swim team as my children were growing up. I know how important strong family values are to our community.

What is your motivation for seeking a seat on the Board of Directors? My wife Denise and I raised our 2 children, Courtney and Ryan, here at Pocono Farms. It was a wonderful place for them to grow up and even now they visit often with their own families. We want the same or even better experiences for our grandchildren, Sullivan Grace and Holden Alexander, when they visit us here at Pocono Farms.

If elected, in what areas do you hope to influence the Board concerning the direction and governance of this community?

I am somewhat concerned that we have lost some of our financial strength the last several years. My goal over the next 3 years would be to regain this strength again by bringing my business acumen to address some of the key issues impacting Pocono Farms.

Why should the membership elect you to the Board of Directors? While I always tried to give back to the community my tie the past 30 years, given my prior work life and raising my family, there were not enough hours to also volunteer for the Board. I now have more flexibility in my life and I am motivated to become an active Board member.

Welcome back to golf at Pocono Farms Country Club. By this time the course has opened and you’ve had a chance to start working on your game for the 2015 season.

Mother Nature was a little rough on golf courses this winter. Thanks to Adam and his magic, we’ve been spared any major disasters on our course. You will see some rough spots out there, but trust me, Adam is doing everything to make this last winter go away as soon as possible and have us playing the fine conditions we’re accustom to here in the Farms.

You will see a new tee box on 17 tee. It is one more improvement made as we continue to complete the Master Plan over time. New scorecards are in with “combination tees”. Another opportunity to enjoy our golf course in different ways to keep it interesting.

Welcome Kim Kleinle, Pocono Farms new 2nd Assistant Golf Pro! Kim is a member of the PGA of America and the LPGA, and has completed the PGA’s advanced Certified Professional program with a focus on instruction. She teaches with the LPGA Golf Clinics for Women, and in the winter, works in the Palm Springs, California, area. She has been a resident of Pocono Farms for 20 years.

Former director of the Pocono Junior Golf Tour, she now serves on the board of the tour. Her work with juniors led to her nomination for Junior Golf Leader of the Year in the Philadelphia Section of the PGA in 2009. Kim has served as head professional at Wild Pines/Pinecrest Lake Golf Club and as assistant and teaching professional at Great Bear, Bethlehem, Sand Springs and Buck Hill.

She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications with more than 30 years’ experience as a writer and editor. She integrated her golf and communications skills as a writer and editor for GolfLink.com and as the section editor and expert for Golfsmith.com’s Golf Tips section. Her writing has also appears in GolfDaily.com, eHow.com and Livestrong.com.

Summer Camp 2015 CA MP R ATES:

Summer Camp is a chance for the children of Pocono Farms Country Club to have fun over the summer with old and new friends.

Camp is three days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 am to 3 pm in the camp room located behind the pool snack shop. Camp is for children from ages 5-12.

There is a fenced in grass field for the children to use and adjacent basketball courts that are used for multiple activities. Some days the campers will go for walks in the woods or to the playground and beach area. There are even activities for rainy weather days. Days will included some scheduled activities, and free time for the campers as well.

Campers are then taken to the pool at the end of the camp day to cool off and relax after a busy day of having fun!

DA ILY ACTI V ITIES: NATURE - Campers will learn about the local wildlife, parks, animals and nature. They will be taught the benefits of recycling and keeping the environment healthy and clean. Throughout the program they will be traveling to local parks and environmental facilities. The goal is to teach campers about our local habitat and how to protect it.

ARTS & CRAFTS - Campers will make numerous projects to be proud of. They will work with all types of materials. The goal is to teach the campers all types of materials and what creatively can be done.

SPORTS - Campers will learn safely to play all types of sports from kickball to rugby.

They will be active and engage in sports they might not normally play. The goal is to teach teamwork, cooperation, sharing, and education about each sport.

Each session includes one field trip. We will be asking for a few parent volunteers to transport campers to the field trips.
