Each year the Association holds an Annual Meeting. This meeting is typically held in the middle of July and the meeting is advertised about a year in advance. The meeting is meant to provide the general membership with an update on the Association status, highlights from the previous year, challenges from the previous year, potential solutions to those challenges, a financial update on the status of the Association and a look at what is ahead.
issue, and address any questions that they may have so that the issues are clearly explained and defined. At times, the issues presented for a vote are not always popular, and that is okay. That is why there is a vote. The Board has limitations as to what it can do as a Board and what items require a membership vote. The Board puts through a voting issue based on what it feels as a group would benefit the community. Then the community votes.
The Annual Meeting is also a time when the nine member elected Board of Directors may present voting issues to the general membership for a vote. The Board has the responsibility to do it’s due diligence in researching the issues and preparing them for the presentation to the general membership, prior to the Annual Meeting. Notification of this meeting, along with any potential issues that will be voted on, will be mailed to all members of Pocono Farms. This is required to be done about three (3) weeks prior to the meeting. Everyone should have received a notice of the meeting in late June.
This year’s Annual Meeting is July 15th at 10am at the Pocono Community Church. As mentioned earlier, you should have received the announcement with the one voting issue that will be presented that day. Please mark your calendar and plan on attending. Please make sure to watch your email and Weathervane for updates on all of the events and activities planned for this summer. We hope to see you at one of these events!

Crime Watch Activity Report BY RUSS KELLY
The Crime Watch community as well as the Pocono Farms community lost one of its well known and liked members in May. Ed Aalbue was one of the charter members of Crime Watch and a continuous part of the group since its inception over twenty years ago. Over that period he never lost his enthusiasm and belief that an active crime watch organization was an important function and could only benefit the community in helping to maintain the quality of life we all moved here to experience. For years, Ed was the chief cook and bottle washer of the group. He maintained the records, worked on the budget, disbursed the funds, maintained and distributed the schedules and maintained his membership on the Crime Watch Committee. While doing this, in the years that driver communication was carried out on mobile CB radios, Ed was the maintenance man that kept the radios and accessories working. I believe one of his happiest moments came when he realized that all of the drivers now had mobile phones and CB radio use could be retired permanently. Ed was always acting as chief recruiter for the organization. He never gave a hard sell, but seemed to be able to get people interested in being part of the group. It seemed whenever he called me to tell me of a new member, the sentence would start with, “I spoke to someone after church last week and they were interested in joining.” I wondered if Ed waited for a sermon calling for people to watch out for each other than seeing this as a good time to recruit. In the current 2016-2017 year, Ed was the chairman of the Crime Watch Committee. As active as he was for all the years, he had never been the chairman of the committee. Over the years he rarely missed a meeting, but for some reason never wanted to be the chairman. The last meeting he attended was in April. Those of us who knew him well will miss him, and the community certainly was better for people like Ed, who played an active role in keeping it a place we want to be part of.

get back as soon as they can. During the month of May, drivers patrolled for 84 hours. Drivers helped spotlight places that needed attention to the clean-up coordinator during the clean-up weekend in April. Hopefully we will be able to keep up with the efforts made to maintain our community as litter free as possible. Anyone can call the office to report dumping, and should to help with the upkeep. To correct a misprint in last month’s article, approved size private pools are to be no larger than 18” high by 6’ long. We still have openings on our patrol schedules, and Crime Watch Committee applications will be coming up, so give some thought to joining one or the other. If you want to try it, give Russ Kelly a call at 570-8944034, or call the office, and they will contact me.

Hello everyone. As you are reading this, summer is in full swing, as are all of the things that go with it. I promised I was going to be more vigilant with the high grass, as the letters many of you have received will attest to (remember not just the front, but the back, sides and sand mound too). Depending on the date you read this, I hope you enjoyed our fireworks show. That being said please, please, please DO NOT shoot off any fireworks yourselves. Besides not being allowed in the Farms, it is also PA state law. Nothing is allowed that goes boom or flies through the air. Ground effects only. Things that a five year old with adult supervision would use. Things like sparklers, those black snakes you light and they grow the little cannons that spark, and so on. We will be watching and fines will be sent. Please enjoy ours and don’t use yours. Lastly I have said it before so we will call this a reminder. Pets are not permitted at any of the amenities. Let’s go through the list so there is no confusion. The pool area, the boat storage area, the fitness center, the tennis courts, the clubhouse, the beach, the playground, the proshop, the golf course and all parking lots, lawns, roads and cart paths connected to any of the aforementioned areas. Now the exception of course is for service animals, not comfort animals, but service animals with credentials. Let’s all have a wonderful summer. As always, if you need help or have questions, my door is always open.
O U R FA RMS, O U R HOME, O U R PA R A DISE As we leave the cold winds and snowy days of winter and the rainy days of spring behind us, our thoughts turn to summer and the many things that we can do here in the Farms to enhance our lifestyle. The Pocono Farms Association is a fantastic place to live and raise a family. All ages live and thrive in our community. We have many amenities which allow us all to enjoy the outside environment and the inside social life surrounding our clubhouse. Our amenities are second to none. The championship golf course under the direction of PGA Professional Kyle Monahan is immaculately groomed and maintained for all to enjoy whether you are a junior golfer, a senior golfer, or someone in between. All types of memberships are available through the Pro Shop, which has a full line of golf gear ready for your use. We have even been recognized as a qualifying course for the Nationwide tour in addition to hosting many outside tournaments and member – guest events. As we are already into the golf season, check out the availability of lessons and upcoming tournaments. The Fitness Center offers a continuing way to maintain body and mind fitness with state-of-the-art machines designed for all personal and all levels of expertise. Stop by and say hello to our Fitness Director, Kristen Aylward. Classes in Zumba, toning, and stretching are available for all members. Again, many levels of membership are available for individuals and families to get in shape and stay in shape all year round. Summer would not be complete unless the pool and beach were open under the direction of Aquatics Manager, Jen Pero. Our fully staffed pool and beach area provide a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy on a sunny Pocono afternoon. The water areas of the Farms are open daily from 11 AM – 7 PM from Memorial Day until Labor Day. A great snack bar at the pool just enhances the summer feeling of a fun day near the water. The pool staff also assists with swim lessons and the swim team that competes with other teams throughout the summer season in the Poconos. Rates for the lessons can be obtained from the pool staff and team membership is open to all Pocono Farms children in good standing. Practices and meets for the team occur weekly throughout the summer as well as a recognition banquet at season’s end.
Women’s Club News BY JOAN SCHIPPER, SECRETARY
The Pocono Farms Women’s Club meets the 2nd Wednesday monthly at noon time in the Grill Room. If you would like to socialize with women in your community and see what we do to help the surrounding communities, come join us for lunch. June Centonze, our Program Person, provides social and educational entertainment for us with guest speakers from different walks of life that affect our community. Tressa Delli-Santi, our Ways & Means Person is having our annual Tricky Tray Friday, August 11th in the Grill Room.
Next to the Fitness Center, are the well maintained tennis courts where any resident in good standing can play. Members can have the opportunity to schedule individual matches or participate in any scheduled tournaments. Independence Day and Labor Day will see the special Pocono Farms tent erected behind the clubhouse to serve all residents a unique holiday menu or nighttime buffet to complete their holiday experience. Everyone always really enjoys the fireworks on the lake that highlights our July 4th Celebration. Katrina Weithman, our Clubhouse Manger, runs these events as well as the many catered events that occur throughout the year. As we are now into the summer season, look to take advantage of what your “Pocono Paradise” has to offer your family. Our community is a reflection of our residents and their use of our amenities. We need to be active in the summer and enjoy what our Association has provided for us. Just keep this thought in your head, “It Is A Cold Winter”.
The dues are $15.00 per year and the 3-course luncheon is $17.00. At the luncheon we collect money for the Tobyhanna Food Pantry and have a 50/50 raffle. This is an easy way to meet your neighbors. REFUSE COLLECTION: Curbside pick-up on household trash and recycling is done on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning at 6:00am by County Waste 570-382-3304. Please refer to the pickup list on our website www.poconofarms.com to determine your pickup day. County Waste will only pick up household trash and accepted recycling. If you have any other items to discard, please call them at 570382-3304 to set up arrangements. Major Holidays that will affect your collection days are: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Christmas. When those holidays fall on a Monday or Tuesday, garbage collection will shift by one day. ANIMALS: Dogs must be leashed or on owner’s property at all times. Wildlife, such as deer and black bear, are common at Pocono Farms. We ask that you NOT FEED any wild animals. Summer is in full swing! Memorial Day weekend events kicked off the start of the season! Despite the cooler weather, the pool was open and members were eager to use it. To start off the holiday weekend, we had a Flickn-Float instead of the traditional Friday night pool party. The Flick-n-float was a movie “flick” and watching it from the pool “float” which gave the kids an excuse to bring their favorite floating devices to the pool. Both Saturday and Sunday events were well attended and everyone had a great time. A big thanks to Ann Marie Ong, Regan Carlson and Ashlyn McCormick for singing the National Anthem that began the 7th Annual Clam Bake on the beach Sunday night.

The golf committee has done various membership polls over the years and one question we always ask is: What is your favorite summer tournament? Regardless of the year, the answer is always the same, 9 out of 10 members reply, “the Member- Member tournament of course”. The 10th response is usually something like “we have tournaments? Why doesn’t anyone tell me anything?”. Last year’s champions, the “Emerald Isle Dream Team” consisting of Ken (the Slice) Callahan and Brian (the fixer) Cavanaugh came together at the last minute when their original partners were unable to make their tee times. Sweet revenge. It is rumored that they will be back to defend. Not sure who might be available to you as a partner this year? Let the Pro Shop match you up to create another “dream team” for 2017.
June started off with a great Tween night event. A big thanks to Mark Ong for being the DJ for the well-attended Tween Night. It was a community dance open for all tweens (members ages 11 to 15) and their friends.
The 3-day event will take place July 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. Golf on the 21st is an optional practice round.We will be moving the dinner to Friday night from Saturday night in the hope that doing so will make for a more relaxed Saturday. Look for additional information in this Weathervane and Clubster, call the Pro Shop with any questions, sign up, you’ll be glad you did.
On Wednesdays and Fridays we have bocce league that has been going great so far. On Saturdays is kayak club from 10am to 12pm at the boat launch. Anyone is welcome to take out our community kayaks or bring your own! Kids camp has started and if you missed the first session there might still be a chance to sign up for the second or third sessions this summer. Give your kids lasting memories of their summer days at our fun-filled camp! Please contact Joe for more information.

July Reminder - Don’t forget to sign up and get your tents ready for the Campout on the Beach on July 15th (the annual meeting is also scheduled for this date). For the past few years we’ve had a great time camping on the beach. Don’t miss out this season! The campout is a night for community members to get the opportunity to pitch their tents and camp overnight in beach camping style! There will be a grill available to bring your own food, a bonfire, and some activities for the kids. Hope everyone is having a great summer season so far!

In his third season at PFCCA, Jeff Lesione has taken over the helm as Superintendent overseeing all aspects of golf course maintenance. Jeff has had extensive experience in preparation for this position. Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Delaware Valley University in Agronomy (turf management) and Environmental Science. He also did an internship at Glenbrook Golf Club in Stroudsburg. After graduation Jeff worked as the Assistant Superintendent, and later Head Superintendent at Water Gap Country Club. Jeff and his wife Olivia, a teacher at East Stroudsburg South, have a 4-year-old son Niko and a 2-year old daughter Nessa. Watching over the entire family is what Jeff describes as the “best black lab in the world!”. “I would like to continue bringing everyone the best golf course we can and love working here at Pocono Farms.
