Not so long ago I can remember sitting in the clubhouse on a weekend in February watching through the window as an artist carved a sculpture of an eagle out of ice. It was Winterfest and the temperature outside with the wind chill was near 25 degrees below zero. The water bottles that he used to fuse the pieces of the sculpture together were frozen and the activities outside for the kids were limited due to the temperature. After the sculpture was completed someone suggested having a contest to see who can guess the date that it would thaw. I cannot remember when, but thank God it did thaw. I believe it is safe to say that we are finally into the seasons of the year that allow all the residents of Pocono Farms to truly benefit and enjoy the amenities that our community has to offer.

With the winter being as harsh as it was, we did have to overcome some damage on a few greens of the golf course. After evaluating the course Adam, and the golf course crew have been diligently working to bring us up to par with the standards for the course that we are used to. As of early June I must say they have done an excellent job and the greens will only get better from now on. With the weather breaking and summer here it is great to have our outdoor activities in full swing. The swim team is formed and practicing for another successful season. The summer camp run by our recreation director Joe is set to begin and the Junior Golf Clinic and Junior Golf Camp run by our PGA pro Kyle Monahan is ready to produce some of the best golfers that Pocono Farms has ever seen.

Did you know that we have a Kayak club? Well we do and for information about it or any of the activities mentioned please call the office or stop by the pro shop. With all that Pocono Farms has to offer it is a great time to be a kid living here. Please take advantage of our beautiful facilities and amenities! One of our most anticipated and popular weekend’s is upon us and as usual we will be having our Fourth of July fireworks show. This is always a great family event and probably the most attended social event of the year. Be sure to come out and enjoy the show on the beach, the fireworks will be Friday night July 3. And don’t forget to bring your badge to this and all the events that we have.

The winners of the election will be announced at the annual meeting and the voting issues will be voted on at the meeting as well. In order to cast a vote on the voting issues you must be a resident in good standing and present at the annual meeting. And now with my favorite season upon us I want to wish everyone a fun, safe, and enjoyable summer. Be adventurous, try something new, fish, kayak , bocce ball, tennis, fitness center, the pool, golf and after all the activity relax at the clubhouse and have a good meal and a beverage. Enjoy!

Thoughts from the Manager By Dave Timko
By the time this article is out for distribution, the voting issue(s) to be voted on at the Annual Meeting will have been mailed to you. Each year the Board is faced with many challenges. One of them is whether or not to recommend a dues increase. For the past few years we have been talking about bad debt and its impact on our operations and the services which are provided to our members. We have also discussed the cost to pursue the bad debt accounts. The Board feels it is time to place a line item in the budget where we allocate funds to file against these accounts. We all know it is difficult to run 100% of the operations on 80% funding. We also know that the early stages of the collection process do not cost the Association a lot of money. It is when we
need to go to the next level that costs us money that we do not have. At 80% funding, we do not have excess to go after these accounts. The Board understands that increases in dues are difficult for some. However, we cannot sit idly by and do nothing. Everyone needs to pay their fair share of the operations. We are at a critical point where we need to be more aggressive and a dues increase will allow us to place a line item in the budget to pursue these accounts. You will see in your packet that a $50.00 dues increase will be presented for a vote at the annual meeting. Some of that will go to the increased operational costs. However, it will be the first time that there will be a specific allocation to allow us to pursue accounts in a more aggressive manner.

The Pocono Farms Women’s Club met on June 10th at the Clubhouse. Joan Schipper the President started the meeting at approximately 12:20PM. She thanked the hostesses Joan Ludwig and Grace Turdo. Then Joan asked if there were any new members, there was not, then recognized Birthdays and Anniversaries. There were several. The Secretary (Patricia Torregrossa) read the minutes they were approved by Lorraine Piel and Irna Walsh. Andee McGuire then gave the Treasurer’s report. Lucille Dever mentioned the Blood Drive that was taking place and Alma Rimmer mentioned the band that is doing a show at the end of June.

We then had Lorraine Piel, our spiritual leader give us an update on some of our members. Marilyn Fritz who has passed away will have an Angel Plaque in her name, Barbara Kohuth has moved and Lois Roberts is in Rehab. Lorraine then led us in a prayer before lunch. Crime Watch is considering putting together a call list for those living alone, more information to follow. We then had a delicious lunch. Ann Shinkovich our Library Director and member of Pocono Farms, then gave a talk on some of the statistics of the Library. Circulation, programs available for the summer for children, teens and adults. She also mentioned Susan Miller, also one of our residents, who was responsible for getting a donation from Clear Run Elementary from one of their fundraisers. We have also received a donation from Pocono Community Fund Raiser that will help purchase additional computers for children. We had two winners for the 50/50 and Marie Bergantino and Alma Rimmer were chosen to be WEAT H ERVA NE

Crime Watch Activity Report BY RUSS KELLY
Another month has gone by and the Poconos is alive with leaves, turkey, deer and assorted critters. Those of us who have survived another winter revel in the spring and sunshine. This past month we had sixteen drivers spend 120 hours traveling in and out of the cul-de-sacs and along the roads of The Farms. It is nice to see all the flowers and landscaped properties. It is not so nice to see the many unkempt lawns. Let’s go everyone, get the place looking up to snuff. After finding one of our friends ill and unable to communicate, we have asked the Administration Office to include, in the next mass mailing, a letter asking anyone who would like to bpagee called or checked on to contact the office. There are volunteers that would be happy to contact those who are alone.
Members of Crime Watch were recognized at their Appreciation Luncheon, held on Saturday, June 6th, for their hours of volunteer service to our community. Crime Watch is always looking for volunteer drivers. If you would like to become a driver please contact Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034 or Ed Aalbue at 570-894-8071.

One of our drivers, Joe Desberg, is leaving us thinking Florida may have a milder winter. He could be right. So, we are looking for someone to replace Joe, and fill a few other slots that pop up every week. W elcome Ne w F itness At tenda nt Please welcome Kristin Hart to the Pocono Farms Fitness Staff. Kristin will be assisting Deanna Amodie in the Fitness Center as Fitness Attendant on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Kristin is a 2015 graduate of McDaniel College in Westminster, MD, where she earned her B.A. in Exercise Science and Physical Education. In addition to her college degree, she was a member of the McDaniel College Women’s Soccer team and was a three time All-Centennial Conference Defender, as well as a three time Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll Member. Kristin has always been interested in health and fitness and is currently pursuing her NASM Certified Personal Trainer Certification.

Weathervane DEADLINE NOTICE In order to produce a better newspaper for the Community, a Weathervane submission deadline has been established. Who knows what treasures lurk in the dark corners of our homes? Yes, it’s yard sale time, and Pocono Farms is planning on a community wide yard sale on August 22nd & 23rd. Participating residents will conduct their sale at their own home. A $1 fee will be collected to pay for group advertising in the Pocono Record. Ads will be run the weekend before the sale as well as the week of the sale. Please note that all payments for registration must be paid by cash ONLY. This is to ensure that monies get placed toward the advertisement of the yard sale within the Pocono Record. On the day of the yard sale simply place balloons or ribbons on your mailbox. We plan to have additional signs on Rts. 611 and 196 guiding people into the Farms, but it will help if you mark your sale as well. Please remember to remove them immediately when your sale is complete. So, start your cleaning and get your sale registered.

During a recent television interview with an LPGA Hall of Fame great, Betsy King, I listened intently to her response when she was asked how much did she enjoy playing with her old time pals and former rivals in the LPGA. Ms. King noted that she continues to enjoy competitive golf, providing sought after advice to the young up-and-coming LPGA members, and sharing a fellowship with all of the members of the LPGA. The remarks, which I respectfully paraphrased for this article, left me thinking about the members of our Pocono Farms Ladies Golf League. We too enjoy competitive golf games, we are willing to provide sought after golfing advice, and most importantly, our members are more than willing to support organizations and each other in times of need. And treasured above all, is the camaraderie we experience on and off the course whether we play at Pocono Farms or at one of the many other country clubs our members have the opportunity to play. If you would love to play golf, enjoy friendships you could develop along the way and meet other female golfers who are members of other country clubs, don’t hesitate to call our Pro Shop. Whether you are a beginner who would prefer to play in a 9-hole league, a more experienced golfer who is interested in an 18-hole League, or a working woman who would enjoy a late afternoon 9-hole league, our staff at the Pro Shop can provide you with all of the information you need in deciding which league is best for you. Whatever you decide, our friendly ladies would love to meet and welcome you into our club and our ladies league.
