I hope that you know that we take the voice of our membership very seriously. As a board member and the board president I can honestly say that it continues to be a pleasure to serve this awesome community.

While the decisions are not always easy, I am confident that the path that has been taken for your community was one that will bring us sustained growth in the future. I hope that this board has been able to show you a greater sense of community than where we were several years ago.

I would also like to note that without the diverse talents of nine board members taking suggestions from community members and our committees we could not have produced the results that we deliver in working towards a common goal. This will continue to get better as one of our key initiatives.

In addition, it is important to note the excellent job that our management team has done in executing the strategies that the board develops year after year. It is clear that the Pocono Farms has become a more desirable community year after year. While, like many other communities, we have our challenges we, as a community, continue to become better. I am happy to report that we have seen many new faces in the club house this year. However, would like to see more. The restaurant and our events continue to reach full capacity. This is a good problem to have, however, I would encourage you to please make reservations and also tell a neighbor about your experience as we continue to drive participations within all amenities and events.

In addition to the restaurant, our other amenities continue to attract new members. We just finished our golf camp and had over 25+ children participating, this doubles the number of students from last year. Laps for Cancer has raised over $8000 for the Monroe County Hospice house, over the past few years. This a great way to see the children of the community give back . The summer calendar is full of activities that can be found on our website. We will continue to concentrate on our marketing program and we will begin next month to start developing our strategies for the 2017 season.

As we look at both our revenue and expenses we see very good results year to date and we are showing very favorable results in revenue. We continue to take the necessary steps in controlling our budget. We also are monitoring our collections very closely and have recognized a slight increase in our collections vs. prior year.

I would like to thank all that attended our annual meeting this year as this is an opportunity to have your voice heard. It allows you to vote on issues that steer the direction of your community. Thoughts from the Manager

WOW – what a weekend that was! We knew it was going to be a busy one with July 4th falling on a Monday and having a long three day weekend.

Overall, it was an excellent three and a half days of fun filled star spangled good times. Although the weather started out a little iffy on Friday with some rain, the balance of the weekend was just awesome.

Although it was a little windy on Saturday, which kept the pool crowds down, but at the same time, drove a lot of members and their guests to the events at the Clubhouse and surrounding grounds.

There were inflatable’s, a pitching speed machine, lots of food, bingo and other activities, all topped off by a GREAT fireworks show.

Saturday was followed up by even better weather on Sunday. There were more activities, a climbing wall, Freedom Fest complete with crab legs, lobster tails, bonfire on the beach and live music on the outdoor stage.

That type of weekend is what Pocono Farms is all about. Seeing members and their families out

enjoying all that the Farms has to offer makes it all worthwhile for the staff. These types of events are funded by your operation assessment. It literally costs you nothing to bring the kids down and have them slip down the slide, or watch a magic show.

The only cost involved is for food and beverage.

We saw many new members over the 4th of July weekend along with those that have supported the staff efforts for a long time. I know it is sometimes difficult to get out and meet new people, but these events serve that purpose well. We set up our tent with over 100 chairs and 10 tables to sit under and socialize while enjoying refreshments or a sausage and peppers sandwich.

I would specifically like to thank all of the staff who worked very hard to put on an event filled weekend. Every department had something to do with its success. I know most, if not all members who attended, appreciate the efforts as I do. We do these types of events in hopes that it brings more value to you and increases the pride that you have to live in such an active and diverse community.

Crime Watch Activity Report

I am writing this month’s article in response to about a dozen different residents asking me about the “thing” in front of their yards, and who is responsible for it.

Well the “thing” they were talking about is called a swale. The swale is there for water runoff, to expedite the flow of water during storms. It will be located at most properties near the roadway, in front of your homes, connected to your driveways.

The mowing/weed whacking and overall care of the swale is each homeowner’s responsibility. Think of it this way, anything and everything left in the swale will impede the flow of water. If the flow is backed up enough, the result is flooding. The swale needs to be maintained to help prevent water from backing up on to your property.

Also each homeowner is responsible to clean out their personal drainage pipe that is beneath almost every driveway.

These pipes will fill up with leaves, sticks, and stones and just about anything through the year. If it gets clogged, the water cannot flow and flooding may result. People have said they thought the Township should come and do it. The Township is only responsible to clean out those large “culverts” that go under the Township roads.

I hope this helps to clarify things, but if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Ex. 105 or come see me.

Once a year the crime watch volunteers get together at a luncheon in the Clubhouse. This year, as a guest speaker, we had Sergeant Jim Apgar of the Pocono Regional Police Department talk to us about the importance of the program as well as his observations of our community. You may run into officer Apgar this year riding his bike in the community. During his presentation he said, based on his observations, he would have no problem living here, as opposed to other unnamed communities he has been involved with. The new leadership in the police department has recognized the importance of reacting to minor crimes and quality of life crimes in a belief that in the long run this will deter the more serious crimes from being waged. He said people shouldn’t hesitate to call in things like speeding vehicles, loud noise, especially late in the evening in your neighborhood. Also, neighbors are probably the best judge of things just not looking right and should feel free to notify our Public Safety Officer or the police department.

He confirmed that things like unkempt property and/or high grass are tell tale signs for anyone looking to break into a house. It is important for a community to watch over itself, as the police rely on the added eyes of the population to help maintain crime free neighborhoods.

Recently, I have been reading about scams that have been prevalent in the area. I walked in the house the other day and found my wife on the phone looking very concerned. It turns out she was called by one of the latest scammers from the IRS, claiming we were being contacted for non-payment of taxes.

Fortunately, we had heard about this scam and hung up. Unlike many of the other questionable calls we have received by obvious scammers, this was a well spoken English voice, unlike some of the others we have received in the past. I can see why this could be more successful with the uninformed.

Volunteers spent seventy-eight hours in June patrolling the Farms. All of our members are back from their winter digs, but other issues have kept our total patrol hours lower than usual. We have several time periods that are not being patrolled, and could use a few more people to help fill the voids. Just an hour or as many as you can give a month would be a big help. The June luncheon of the Pocono Farms Women’s Club was held on June 8th at the Pocono Farms Clubhouse. Our President, Joan Shipper, opened the meeting thanking the hostesses Mary Lou Preus and Alice Killeen. Lorraine Piel led us in our prayer and mentioned again if we know of anyone that needs special mention or a card to let her know. Joan also mentioned the Angel Plaque that is in memory of our members and is still available.

We then had our reporter, Pat Torregrossa, read the minutes from the May meeting and they were accepted. Treasurer’s report came next

with an ending balance of $2,143.14. Jane Colors updated us on the membership and June Centonze reminded everyone about the Tricky Tray coming up on June 17th. We then had a great lunch.

After the lunch, Latonia Jones and Marie Farman from the Monroe County Area of Aging gave very informative information on their organization and what is available in our area to help senior citizens. Also, there was some valuable information on current medical programs available to us and some areas of concern on scams that target seniors. We also received a canvas bag with gadgets inside. Our hostesses for next month are Marie Bergantino and Anne Holland and the presentation will be on make-up.

On Friday, June 17th, the Women’s Club had their annual Tricky Tray and it was our best one yet. A lot of hard work went into planning, setting up and obtaining great prizes. We had over a 115 gifts and our caller, Don Murphy, livened it up with his comments. We had great young people as runners bringing the winners their prizes with enthusiasm. Over $2,000.00 was raised. A special thanks to Joan Shipper, June Centzone, Lucille Dever and Joan Ludwig for their hard work going to the area businesses for support.

Animals: Dogs must be leashed or on owner’s property at all times. Wildlife, such as deer and black bear, are common at Pocono Farms. We ask that you NOT FEED any wild animals.

Baked eggs in ham cups

1. Preheat oven to 375° F. Ingredients: 12 slices of ham (free of preservatives) 12 eggs Salt, pepper and paprika

After we eat food a process occurs called "gastric emptying time�. This is how long it takes for food to leave our stomach and increase blood glucose levels to normal.

Gastric emptying time can range from one to four and a half hours, which means we get hungry again, or our blood glucose levels drop after 1 to 4.5 hrs after we eat. If we have dinner between 6-8 or 9 pm, then that means our blood glucose levels will drop from 10pm to 1am.

Our liver can hold blood glucose levels for around 3-4 hrs, which means that by 5am at the latest, we have entered a state of fasting which causes our metabolism to slow down to save energy. If we skip breakfast, our metabolism REALLY slows down and the first meal we eat is mostly stored as fat as our body believes we have entered a state of starvation.

A slow metabolism will make and keep us overweight. Below are some easy, but healthy, breakfasts that everyone can whip up with simple ingredients.

3. Allow to cool for two to three minutes, remove slowly from muffin tin and enjoy!

Directions: 1. Peel your hard-boiled eggs and run under cold water. Transfer to a cutting board and slice into quarters.

2. Combine your chopped eggs with the diced avocado in a small bowl or mug. Top off with garnishes of your choice and enjoy!
