President’s Message

Over the past year there have been a few challenges, as well as successes, in the operation of Pocono Farms Country Club. Most would gauge success on the amount of revenue generated. To that point, both the golf operations and food and beverage operations have seen increases in the amount of revenue they have generated over the past three years. Both of these areas ended 2013 near the $500,000.00 mark. This is a positive trend for those operations.

Some of the specific accomplishments in the golf operations last year were: 1. Out of 37 fall golf specials, 31 specials became full

members for the 2014 season.

2. We ended the year with over 500 more member

rounds played than were played in 2012.

Our 2nd staff change was the hiring of a new Recreation Director. Joe Sprovkin was hired late last year. Joe has expanded the recreation offerings as well as made the existing programs even better.

Joe’s enthusiasm is contagious and the members really applaud his motivation.

There were other positive changes at Pocono Farms within the past year that will lead to other successes. Our 9 year PGA Professional – Joe Acla, accepted a General Manager’s position at another golf club. This opened the door for our new PGA Professional – Kyle Monohan. Kyle was a long time assistant professional at the Country Club

establishing itself as a valuable entity at Pocono Farms. As each month passes, they receive a few more inquiries and leads, which we trust will eventually turn into more sales and revenue.

4. Some of our challenges have not changed. The

collection of dues and being able to maintain the association owned amenities are still the top two challenges. We have done a good job of controlling the expenses that are within our control over the years. Other expenses, as we see in our own homes, continue to rise.

Expenses like utilities, insurances, fuel, and others that we cannot control, continue to rise. This presents the association its own set of challenges. We have been very pro-active in working with our collection attorney and he continues to do well for us.

Looking ahead, I trust this Board, as well as future Boards, will continue to work towards preserving the quality of life we chose to be a part of at Pocono Farms. There are always going to be tough decisions and all of them are not going to be popular ones, however, at the end of the day, we all can agree that we want what is best for Pocono Farms.

Crime Watch Activity Report

Our summer here in Pocono Farms has started, school is out, vacations are being planned and I hope we are all getting ready to enjoy what is planned for us here in Pocono Farms. Check the web site, Weathervane and the activities board for what is planned for the next two months. For the summer months we will have 18 volunteers patrolling the community. During the month of June we patrolled the community for 112 hours. Also this month we had our annual crime watch luncheon. We have this every year to thank our drivers and give them an opportunity to meet each other in person. Sometimes they only see the person they drop the equipment off to. Each driver was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Pocono Farms Country Club Association for the time and effort they put into the program. Our board liaison, Peter Volpe, talked to the drivers and thanked them for their service. A big thank you to Katrina and her staff for a wonderful lunch. Get out there and enjoy the summer.

By the time you read this article there will only be one month left of summer, the kids will be heading back to school soon, and the school buses will be lining the streets. That being said, summer has been exciting so far.

After a great start on Memorial weekend, the July 4th weekend hit us. We did have a slow start to the weekend as the rain and wind decided to stick around for a while. That did not stop the over 230+ members from attending the Freedom Fest, enjoying some good food, and listening to (until she got too cold) Regina Sayles perform on the beach. Saturday’s picnic was topped off by one of the best Firework shows possibly ever. All of the comments were positive about the fireworks and the efforts of all of the PFCCA staff in providing our members a memorable weekend.

We thoroughly enjoy our larger holiday events. We can always count on those that attend all of our functions but what is great is to see are the new faces of the community. This is a positive position for the community that we are meeting new members or seeing those that have not come out to an event in some time. We do sometimes wonder why more members do not come out to the various events and activities. After all, your dues pay for most of the entertainment for these events.

So here is my challenge to you. If you have not been to an event in some time, please mark August 30th on your calendar for our Labor Day festivities. On that day, grab your PFCCA ID badge and come on down to the Clubhouse. There is plenty to do, eat and enjoy. We hope to see you there!

Participating residents will conduct their sale at their own home. A $1.00 fee will be collected to pay for group advertising in the Pocono Record. Ads will be run the weekend before the sale as well as the week of the sale.

Payments for registration must be paid by cash ONLY. This is to ensure that monies get placed toward the advertisement.

On the day of the yard sale simply place balloons or ribbons on your mailbox. We plan to have additional signs on Rts. 611 and 196 guiding people into the Farms, but it will help if you mark your sale as well. Please remember to remove them immediately when your sale is complete. So start your cleaning and get your sale registered!
