We live in a great Community! We have great neighbors and friends, great amenities and a great staff taking care of everything for us. But how can we make it better? Get Involved!!! Make a Difference!!! Your Community Needs You!!! Your Board of Directors needs to hear from you during the year. Operating without our membership’s input is not the best way to operate. Help your Board of Directors. Come to Board meetings and learn what challenges we are all facing. Give us your opinions, concerns and suggestions. Input from our membership is ingrained in our governing documents and is always put on our meeting agendas. You should participate in any Community Update/Town Hall Meetings. You should ask questions and give us your opinions. This will help shape the future direction of our Community. Your Board of Directors needs feedback from our members and recommendations from our Committees to make more informed decisions. If you can, please consider serving your Community by volunteering your time. You meet and work with other members of our Community. Hopefully when you are reading this you are not worrying about the next snow or ice storm, but rather planning on what needs to be done to clean up the property after such a severe winter. We really don’t take pride in being the second coldest February on record. The weather took its toll on our patrols in January and February. Between the bad weather and the migration by our snowbirds, we had a total of 148 hours of patrol for the two months.

We are surprised at how many homeowners don’t have their driveways plowed while they are away for an extended period. This was evident this year as we were taking a survey to try to determine how many homes in the Farms are up for sheriff sale or look abandoned. We try to be aware of footprints in the snow going to homes that look empty. When a driveway remains unplowed it’s an invitation for a forced entry. We shouldn’t make it easier for someone looking for an uninvited entry. With the sunshine on its way, why not volunteer for an hour or two a month. You meet a lot of nice people and find streets you never knew existed in the Farms. Speaking of snowbirds, one of our volunteers picked up an interesting article concerning how many snowbirds have been talked into excessive medical tests while seeing doctors located in their winter hide-a-ways. Florida, Arizona, and Texas are high on the list. It’s suggested that you speak with your home doctor before you go away or call him when a test is suggested. The article came too late for this year’s snowbirds, but after this winter, those of you that stayed north this year may be having second thoughts.

Thoughts from the Manager By Dave Timko
By the time this paper goes to production, we are hoping that the snow has stopped. This winter is wearing on all of us by now. The maintenance staff is running out of room to push the snow, members are getting tired of wheeling their garbage cans in and out through the snow, ( I can sense the frustration in their voice when I talk to them), and we are all tired of shoveling the snow. Spring weather has to come soon!! With that being said, we are all looking forward to spring with much anticipation. We can do many more activities and events when the weather is better. Members tend to participate more when the weather is nicer. Two of the spring events that we look forward to are the Bunny Brunch/Egg Hunt and our annual Clean up day. The Bunny brunch not only signifies that Easter Sunday is a week away, but also may be associated with the start of the spring season. The Clean-up day is in conjunction with the PA Department of Transportation and its goal to help raise awareness in keeping our communities clean. We all see the amount of trash along the sides of the roadways once the snow melts. It is really upsetting that so much garbage is still discarded on the ground from passing vehicles and others that just throw trash on the ground. We appreciate all of the volunteers that have helped us over the past 7 years during this one day event. We look forward to your participation again this year. Clean up day is scheduled for April 25th this year. Our Recreation Director Joe will be heading up the cause. Stay tuned for future sign up information. Bunny Brunch this year is scheduled for March 29th. This program fills up quickly, so if you are planning on attending, please sign up early.

Women’s Club News by pat torregrossa
The Pocono Farms Women’s Club will resume meeting at the Pocono Farms Clubhouse for lunch starting in April. In the winter months we have gotten together at some of our local spots. In January we went to Mt. Airy Casino Buffet, February saw us at the Olive Garden and in March we went to Frank’s Pizza in Bartonsville. We look forward to being back on our own turf. We meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Clubhouse at noon for food, friendly conversation and a program. If you are interested in joining our group, stop into the administration office for an application. Hope to see some new members. What you need to know for 2015 Once your 2015 dues are paid in full please stop by the administration office to update your Vehicle Registration sticker, your ID Badge sticker, pick up your Golf Vouchers and Fitness Vouchers. $75 Restaurant Food and Non-alcoholic Beverage Credit – FORM MUST BE FILLED OUT EACH YEAR In order to utilize this food credit at the Glacier Lake Grill Room qualifying members must do the following: •

Pay your 2015 dues in full and all prior house charges must be paid in full. Complete the PFCCA House charge form. Forms can also be printed from the website or picked up at the Administration Office. This applies to both existing & new House Charge account users. Return the original signed form to the Administration Office

YOU MUST FILL OUT A FORM PRIOR TO USING THE CREDIT. We can no longer apply previous charges to the food credit, once the food charge has been placed on your account. You must present your PFCCA Photo ID badge any time you use your house charge account. Because we anticipate members who have not used the Clubhouse in some time, having your PFCCA ID badge will allow us to get to know and recognize our members. Please do not be offended when we ask for your badge. You MUST print your name & PFCCA address or lot # on all House Charge receipts, along with signing each receipt. The $75 food credit must be used in full by December 31, 2015
Exclusions: Food Credit cannot be used for tax, gratuities or alcohol. The food credit can be used ONLY at the Glacier Lake Grill Room.

Refuse Collection: Curbside pick-up on household trash and recycling is done on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning at 6:00am by County Waste 570-382-3304. Please refer to the pickup list on our website www.poconofarms.com to determine your pickup day. County Waste will only pick up household trash and accepted recycling. If you have any other items to discard, please call them at 570-382-3304 to set up arrangements. Major Holidays that will affect your collection days are: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Christmas. When those holidays fall on a Monday or Tuesday, garbage collection will shift by one day.
The Nominating and Elections Committee request from all board candidates, a completed candidate profile – see form below which can be obtained in the Weathervane, on the website or picked up at the Administration Office. As stated in the By-Laws (Section 5.7) “Any Director who is absent from either a total of four (4) regular meetings or three (3) regular meetings in succession, of a twelve month period, commencing with the August organizational meeting, shall be deemed to have resigned…” This year, there are three seats available on the Board of Directors three for a (3) year term. Committee Members Needed. Active Committees help the Board and our Community by providing valuable recommendations and feedback. Consider being an active member of a Standing Committee. You will learn how the Farms works (or should work) for our members. Long Range Planning Committee. We really need a Long Range Planning Committee that looks at the future of Pocono Farms with forward thinking and objectivity. This is not a Committee that focuses on the current year operations but looks at the next five to ten years. Board of Directors. If you can make the time commitment, which is not that demanding, consider running for the Board of Directors. It is a humbling and rewarding experience to work with other Community members to provide oversight
and direction to management while setting policies for our Association. Pocono Farms can always use fresh perspectives from new Board members. Annual Meeting. At the very least, you should attend the Annual Meeting every year, if you can. You have to be there to vote on issues affecting all of us which includes any and all money issues. Also, you will learn what happened during the last year and what lies ahead. It has been disappointing to have only a small percentage of members in good standing attending. Whether it’s apathy or complacency, a small group votes for us all. The Annual Meeting provides another opportunity for Members’ comments not only on voting issues but on any subject that concerns the member.

BY SHANE FALLS It seems the older I get the proverb that winter either bites with its teeth or lashes with its tail becomes more true. It is only in the fact that winter will soon end and be replaced with the warmth of the springtime and lavish color of fairways and greens that I gain some solace. That being said the weather is still cold and only the thoughts of a new golf season can ease the winter chill. If you’ve been keeping up with your reading you know that we have some new events added for this year, and your golf committee is working on updated formats to the existing tournaments. Hopefully by the time this issue is available we are preparing to ready the course to open and play the first rounds of the season. With that, I thought some quick notes on how to prepare for the season would be appropriate. 1. Check your grips. If they can double as a mirror, it is time to replace them. The average golfer who plays twice a week needs to change grips at least once a year. New grips could mean as many as two to three shots a round (and I don’t mean Jack Daniel’s.) See Kyle in the Pro Shop should you have any questions. 2. Check the condition of your golf shoes. Soft spikes are more comfortable and easier on the turf, but tend to wear out faster than metal spikes. New soft spikes at the beginning of every season will improve your traction (and maybe even your status with the ladies.)

REFER A FRIEND! 2015 GOLF REFERRAL PROGRAM: Refer a full member and receive $100.00 in food credit at the Clubhouse. Refer a Junior, Weekday, or member of another private club and receive $50.00 in food credit at the Clubhouse. This program does not apply for under 21 Weekday membership, or new homeowner special membership.
3. Check your golf gloves and golf balls. To give your gloves a longer life, store them in a sandwich bag. This will keep them dry in bad weather and keep them from dry rotting. (Just remember to keep your PB and J in a separate one) 4. Check your clubs. Clean the dirt from the grooves with a wire brush and soapy water. This is especially important for the short irons and wedges, where you want to spin the ball. You can’t expect to control the spin with dirt in your grooves. (Or if you hit the ball like I do). I would go on to provide instruction on health and fitness but let’s be real, if you’ve seen my waist line you all know I’m not the guy to ask. All joking aside, I look forward to seeing you all out there, and hopefully play a match. (5 dollar Nassau anyone?). Shane Falls (a.k.a. the guy in the funny pants)
