ATV CRASH

Rangers Take Quick Action Locust Lake Village Security Rangers responded at 11:20 Sunday morning, Sept. 24 to an emergency call in the Village involving an Alternate Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that had rolled over several times into a wooded area near the intersection of Berry and Chipmunk lanes, and ejected its occupants.

Two property owners who were walking by the area heard the calls for help and contacted Village security.

Upon dispatch, Rangers Mark Brugler and Jim Kelly along with off-duty Deputy Chief Tom Schad, Chief Andy Gross, and former Maintenance Supervisor Shawn Keller arrived at the scene. They observed that the ATV’s driver had lost control of the vehicle and the driver and his son, both wearing helmets, had been ejected from the vehicle and were lying on the ground. “Luckily, both were wearing helmets, but one suffered a serious head injury and was disoriented,” said Schad.

While the Rangers secured the scene and waited for Tobyhanna fire and rescue units to arrive, Ranger Mark Brugler, a retired registered emergency room nurse, put his medical knowledge to work in assessing the

ROAD WORK AHEAD

Committee Takes Aim at LLV Road Problems First of Two Parts

A concerted effort is being made by Locust Lake Village’s (LLV) Roads Committee to do something about the shoddy condition of the Village’s roads.

“We’re playing catch up to get by this winter,” said committee chair Steve Marga. “We have made progress.” There are 18 miles of paved and 8 miles of unpaved roads in the Village. To date, 1,100 potholes on unpaved roads have been filled, and patching on paved roads has been completed, according to Marga.

NOV. POA BOARD MEETING

Keiper and Sons Excavating, of Pocono Lake was contracted to fill the potholes and Shiffer Bituminous Service Company, of Stroudsburg, handled the patching. The goal of the roads committee is the upkeep and maintenance of all the roads in LLV. This includes developing plans to recondition the roads and to explore ways to eventually replace unpaved roads. “We plan to recommend to the board that experienced road contractors be brought in to maintain our roads,”

Safety and Roads Addressed Ranger Security Chief Andy Gross addressed major safety concerns at the Saturday, Nov. 17 meeting of the Locust Lake Village (LLV) Property Owners Association (POA) Board of Directors held at The Chalet. Gross, reporting on behalf of LLV’s Security and Emergency Planning Committee, urged property owners to

exercise caution when using their fireplaces, especially this winter. “There was a structure fire two weeks ago (early November) that started in the fireplace,” Gross said, pointing out that the residents had left the home on that Sunday at 5 p.m. “The fire burned through the fire wall and the back wall of the structure.” A neighbor noticed flames shooting out of the back of the structure and called Security.

Ranger Jim Kelly arrived at the scene within a minute of receiving the call, and immediately called in Tobyhanna Fire and Rescue for help. After the fire was contained, Gross reported that there was considerable damage done to the structure. “It’s greatly important to take proper care of your fireplace,” Gross continued. “We highly recommend that you get somebody in for inspection of your fireplace and chimney. I’ve seen two structures here in the Village
