G V Black’s Cocktail Party

Ahh, GV Black, the classy but not- so- classy dentistry event of the year (after dent dinner of course). There was much less singing this time but in return much more dancing on chairs from yours truly, really can’t help myself when Nicki Minaj comes on. I feel like she’s a more tacky version of myself, with more booty. And less brains. And looks

nothing like me. And really bears no resemblance to me at all. But anyway, I digress. The night was a success with The Globe delivering greatly as a new venue, very worth the risk!! Thank you to everyone who made the effort to come and make the night as fun as it ended up being. And to all of you that didn’t and were too busy being NERDS, I hope your GPA was worth it!!!!!! It’s alright, Ching and I are forgiving, just make sure you make to our awesome pub crawl in August. The theme is a new one, so keep your eyes and ears open because it’s going to be killer ;)

UDSS JUNIOR SOCIAL REPRESENTATIVE

Did Parni say we were forgiving for those absent at GV Black? Well, we may be, but we know who you are and we have our eyes on you. For those who \did come, we know what they’ve missed out on–a night of class. The Globe was a great host to us,

serving us (me) delicious chicken wings, other fried stuff, and of course delicious cocktails throughout. But of course, the night would not have been complete without all your beautiful faces, all suited up and dressed to impress! We couldn’t be more impressed! Keep it up my fellow friends, as we have something bigger lined up for you guys soon J If the cold weather and the new semester have been getting you down (it sure did to me), don’t worry as your junior social reps have got it covered.

ADSA Convention 2016

It was about time the dental convention came around! After a long hard semester of Dentistry, it was finally time to unwind and enjoy a well- deserved week of wholesome fun! This year \the Australia Dental Students Association (ADSA) Convention ran in Melbourne from July 5th to the 10th in Melbourne at the University of Melbourne Campus. Everyday exhibited academic lectures and guest speakers from all aspects of Dentistry ranging

from Botox lectures by the one and only Myles Holt or an exceptional expose of the artistry and exquisite detail that is posterior composites by Terry Wong. The entire lecture experience was enhanced via streamed seminars in which we could pick from a tasteful selection, whichever tickled our fancy on that particular day! I can’t remember a day where I didn’t receive a gift or learn something important about Dentistry. To top it all off, every night the ADSA convention team had an exclusive evening planned out for us, showcasing Melbourne’s finest nightlife and popular watering holes! All in all it was an unforgettable experience that never ceases to amaze me every year I attend. And you can bet yourself I will be there every time!

ADSA Convention 2016

The Australian Society of Implant Dentistry (ASID) was established in 1969 and internationally is one of only eight component societies that head-up the world’s largest implant group – the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) with its 25,000 members spread across the globe

The ASID runs educational programs for all dental practitioners in the field of implant dentistry, from new graduates through to experienced clinicians. New graduates have found that the ASID Levels I, II and III Courses have helped to de-mystify implantology, to educate in the basic scientific aspects required for this field, and to provide opportunities for clinical mentoring when required. Safety for the patient is a high priority with this education. More than 1500 young dentists have completed the ASID Accreditation Courses, which are advertised regularly in the ADA News Bulletin. We welcome you to join us as new graduates, in our 2016 series.

Colleagues are also encouraged to gather specific records in preparation for the definitive treatment of their patients, with safe, predictable and successful outcomes as a goal. Assistance and advice with cases can be just a phone call or email away, and uncritical help obtained.

We also support our more experienced members with advanced courses in our Beyond Programme where we invite experts from throughout the world to present the latest research and techniques in implantology.

In today’s world, knowledge about the scope and feasibility of implant dentistry is no longer just an option - it is essential. Patients expect it and even demand it.

The ASID stands ready to assist you as a new graduate to become confident in prescribing implant treatment when appropriate. The Society will assist you in your learning curve as you begin to undertake implant treatment yourself. Our Beyond Programme of more advanced tuition will assist you as you grow in confidence and ability in the field.

The Society looks forward to meeting you. You do not have to be a member of the ASID in order to register for the Accreditation Courses, though you are welcome to join at any time and enjoy the benefits.

Specialisation Evening

UDSS EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVE

In semester 1 the UDSS held its first Dentistry Specialisation Information Evening. The pre- lecture snacks and pizza gathered a large crowd and allowed for students to mingle and get to know one another among different year groups prior to hearing from the guest speaker. Winthrop Professor and specialist Endodontist Paul Abbott was the inaugural guest speaker and gave the audience a detailed

insight into his line of work. Professor Abbott spoke of the wide scope of practice he has as an endodontist as well as some of his more bizarre experiences including performing root canal treatment on a tiger. Overall the night was a great success and the UDSS is enthusiastic to host another Specialisation Information Evening in semester 2.
