Dear readers, So, the time has come for us to introduce you to the final edition of Probe for 2023! We are proud to highlight some of the largest events in dentistry for the year in this edition, including the UDSS Annual Dental Ball as well as snippets from the ADSA Convention held in the Gold Coast this year. We would like to take a moment to extend a warm thank you to everyone for your support and participation in the dental society and its events this year. And to our fellow UDSS 2023 committee members, it has been a pleasure getting to know and working with you this year. Wishing everyone a restful and joyful holiday season and all the best for 2024. As my term as UDSS President comes to a close, I want to express my gratitude for your unwavering support throughout 2023. Together, we achieved remarkable success in making 2023 a year of lasting memories and enriched DMD experience for all. I am confident that our incoming 2024 President Ashton Foo and his committee will build upon our accomplishments and lead UDSS to even greater heights in the coming year . On October 26, the UDSS was proud to welcome Dr El-Hakim to present the final journal club- “Cracks in Teeth from a Restorative Dentists’ Point of View”. Cracks are the bane of any dentists’ existence and strategies of management are highly controversial. Dr El-Hakim, who was also joined by Endodontics discipline lead Dr Elkholy, discussed the various types, aetiology and management of cracks. One important thing we gathered from Dr El-Hakim and Dr Elkholy’s discussions was that no two clinicians will necessarily manage cracks the same way. Many thanks to Dr El-Hakim for providing us with an interesting and informative presentation, which arrived perfectly in time for exam season. We’ve had quite a year of Journal club presentations- a heartfelt thank you to all of our presenters and attendees. Convention Gold Coast 2023 This year’s ADSA convention was held from 28th November to 2nd December in the Gold Coast. It brought together Dental and Oral Health students from across Australia for an action packed 4 days of academic lectures, handson workshops, as well as a range of social events like a cruise night, scrub crawl and gala. Several UWA students were in attendance and got to meet other dental students and relax after a long year. Would highly recommend going to the ADSA Convention next year!! - Kaylee Wong

UDSS’ annual quiz night event, held at the J. Robin Warren Library on October 27th, allowed DMD students a chance to reconnect and catch-up with others amidst their study week. We hope all attendees had a great time and were able to have fun in the engaging atmosphere of trivia questions, mini-games and pizza. We would like to give a big thanks to our sponsors who helped make the event possible: Byron Medical, UDSS Alumni Dr. Amit Gurbuxani, and Jogo; and would like to give a big congratulations to those who won prizes! Thank you for an amazing year, we hope you thoroughly enjoyed each event that was held by us!
