Dear readers, With the semester almost coming to an end, we hope everyone has been taking good care of themselves. Amidst the chaos of all our assignments and exams, we are pleased to release our second to last edition of Probe for the year. Before we continue, let us take a moment to express how rewarding it has been being your UDSS media representatives for 2023. This opportunity has allowed us to get involved with the dental student community in ways we had not imagined, and help our fellow committee members execute their visions greatly. We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Stella Mullane (DMD 3 in 2024) and Samantha Toh (DMD 2 in 2024) who are the elected UDSS media representatives for the next year. We are excited to see all that the two of you are going to bring to the committee and are confident that we will be leaving Probe and our social media accounts in very capable hands. Now, we assure you that this edition of Probe is filled with all the fun from semester 2 thus far. Here, we will cover the first ever UDSS Sports Day, our beloved cocktail event GV Black and several events we have hosted with ADSA. Dear Probe Readers, As we reflect on the past semester, we are thrilled to share the remarkable success and heartwarming community engagement events that have brought our UDSS community closer together. From promoting mental health awareness to raising funds for charity, supporting local causes, and celebrating our camaraderie, the past few months have truly been remarkable. Head & Neck Charity Raffle and Soup for the Soul: One of our standout events this semester was the Head & Neck Charity Raffle and Soup for the Soul organised by our ADSA Western Australian Rep Jadelyn Hiew. Through the raffle, we raised significant funds to support vital research and care for head and neck cancer patients. Soup for the Soul warmed both hearts and bodies as we served up delicious student-made soups, with all proceeds directed towards helping local H&N patients and their families in need. These events exemplified our dedication to improving the lives of those in our broader community. R U Ok Day: Our commitment to supporting each other back was showcased through R U Ok Day, a day dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and fostering connections within our dental community. We came together to initiate conversations about mental well-being and support each other through life's challenges. The event was a resounding success, emphasizing the importance of compassion and communication in our profession Dentistry can be tough at the best of times and I encourage us all to reach out to each other if and whenever needed. Although I don’t have an office, my cubicle in ground floor Clinic 1 is always open and I always have time to stop for a chair in the stairwell or outside Titanium. Sports Day at UWA James Oval: The long-awaited return of the UDSS Sports Day was one of highlights and laughs. A major highlight was the support by many who gave up some of their Sunday arvos, swapping the familiar white coats for sportswear to engage in friendly competition and team-building exercises. This day not only encouraged physical well-being but also strengthened the bonds among our peers, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie that extends beyond the 4 walls of OHCWA. The day peaked with humorous injuries including Kavin pinging a hammy half-way through sports day while trying to show off his “good sides”, and me showing my age with a high ankle sprain only 30 seconds into a game of touch rugby! Time for me to hang up the boots and spectate it seems . A big shout out to our Sports Reps; Ashton Foo and Reeta Joe for the incredible event.

GV Black Cocktail Night: The semester kicked off with a splendid start with the GV Black Cocktail Night organised by your Junior Social Reps; Becca Nguyen and Shivangi Sharma. It was a night of glamour and celebration- with our cohorts and attending partners dressed to impress! As Erin would add “everyone looking slay”! The event was a fantastic opportunity to unwind, connect, and celebrate our journey together through the DMD course at a slightly different pace and tune. achievements together. As we embark on the second half of semester 2 and nearing the end of the year, I’d like to share what we all have left to look forward to. Here's a sneak peek at what's in store for us: UDSS Quiz Night: Get ready to test your knowledge and win some fantastic prizes as your Junior Social Reps prepare to get quiz-ical!! Excuse the pun, but our highly-anticipated UDSS Quiz Night is just around the corner! With prizes including a set of Loupes, a set of Scrubs, and a variety of random door and table prizes, the stakes have never been higher, and the competition promises to be fierce. Brush up on your trivia and gather your teammates for a night of fun, laughter, and friendly rivalry. It's a perfect opportunity to showcase your dental expertise and general knowledge while bonding with fellow students and faculty members. UDSS Dental Dinner Ball at the Westin: As the year winds down, we have saved the best for last. Our premier event, the UDSS Dental Dinner Ball brought to you by you Senior Social Reps Belinda Luu and Ben Lundberg, is set to be a night to remember. Prepare to indulge in elegance and sophistication as we gather at the exquisite Westin. It's an occasion to celebrate our achievements, reflect on our journey, and enjoy the company of our peers, tutors, academics and staff. The Dental Dinner Ball promises glamour, delicious cuisine, and a dance floor that will keep us grooving into the night. Don't miss this opportunity to round off the year in style and create lasting memories with your fellow dental enthusiasts. These upcoming events are a testament to the vibrant and close-knit community we have built within our dental school. They provide an opportunity to relax, have fun, and strengthen the bonds that make our journey in the field of dentistry even more rewarding. Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday the 25th of November, gather your friends, and join us for these exciting events. We look forward to seeing you there, as we continue to celebrate excellence, camaraderie, and the shared passion for dental care that unites us all. Under the guidance of your elected UDSS executives; Shreyash Nigam (Vice President), Jewel Ajimon (Treasurer), and Kavindi Thilakarathne (Secretary), and with the leadership of your incoming President; Ashton Foo, I assure you that they will build upon this year’s success and deliver another exceptional year at the realm. ANNUAL COCKTAIL EVENT

UDSS’ annual cocktail event, known as GV Black, was held at Market Grounds on August the 5th. As an event to welcome students back to second semester, we hope DMDs were able to catch-up with one another and meet others amongst an engaging atmosphere with catchy tunes and finger food. We’d like to give a big thanks to our event photographer, Bhargav, who helped capture the night and made it all the more memorable. We hope all attendees had an amazing time and were able to let loose on the dance floor. Stay tuned for our games night event that will be held later this semester. Sports Day

We're excited to share the fantastic outcome of our very first UDSS Sports Carnival, held on 27th August. It was a day packed with lots of sports, great food, and even better company. Our Sports Carnival featured a line-up of thrilling games that had everyone fully engaged. Bubble soccer had us bouncing around with laughter. Dodgeball ignited our competitive spirit as we strategized to win. Touch rugby showcased impressive teamwork and athleticism. But the excitement didn't end there. Between games, we fired up the grill for a delicious BBQ feast with burgers, sausages, and tasty sides. It was an exciting opportunity to relax and connect with fellow dental students. Adding to the charm of the day, many members brought their dogs along, providing us with an extra layer of delight. Watching them play and enjoy the open space brought an extra dose of joy to our gathering. The sense of camaraderie, shared fun, and friendly competition made it an unforgettable day. Fundraiser for Head and Neck Cancer Australia (July 27th) In recognition and support of for Head and Neck Cancer Day, we have organised two fundraisers this for Head and Neck Cancer Australia. Through the Soup and Noodle Sale and Charity Raffle, we have managed to raise a total of $610. Thank you for your support!
