May 2021 Virtual Fitness Descriptions: May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

All levels are welcome!

Spring Sports HIIT! with Shannon - Flowers are blooming and Summer is looming! With just 48 days until Summer, this high-intensity interval training class will accelerate your weight loss goals or simply just boost your mood and overall health!

Guided by 30-second intervals of hard work followed by 10 seconds of recovery, participants can increase intensity with heavier weights and decrease intensity with lighter weights.

Light to heavy weights and a mat suggested.

Boxing Bands Blast! with Charissa: This boxing class multiplies the fat and calorie burn with the use of loop bands!

Test your fitness level with varying resistance bands and challenge your maximum workload! Weights can be interchanged with bands if necessary (light weights only). Light to strong resistance loop bands suggested.

Cinco de Mayo 5-Point Upper Body with Ashley: Start your Cinco de Mayo with an upper body boost before the beer!

Biceps, triceps, chest, back, and core will be the focus during this class. Participants can expect to move through 50-second intervals of work followed by 10 seconds of recovery. Light to heavy weights and a mat suggested.

Sports Mix Marathon with Charissa: Sports drills will dominate this non-stop class designed to challenge sports lovers and non-sports lovers alike! Various intervals will be explored while engaging in sports conditioning exercises guaranteed to push participants to their maximum effort! One heavy weight and a mat will be used.

Functional Fitness Triple Extension with Shannon: Functional fitness involves exercise designed to train the body for activities performed in daily life. Triple extension is the ability to achieve full extension of the ankles, hips and legs to produce maximum power. Participants can expect to execute triple extension with a focus on alignment and control. Light to heavy weights and a mat will be used.

Total Lower Body with Ashley: The gluteus muscles to include the hip flexors, quadriceps, hamstrings, calves and foot muscles are the focus of this lower body workout! Heavy hand weights will be incorporated to increase heart rate, calorie expenditure and fat burn! Participants will need heavy weights and a mat.

Yoga Fit Strength with Shannon: This is not your average Yoga class! With a focus of building strength, awareness and breath control, various Yoga poses will be explored using light to heavy hand weights. Gain greater blood oxygenation, clarity and spatial awareness through this guided practice and ensure that proper form and alignment are executed. A mat and weights suggested.

Fiercely Fit Front to Back with Charissa: As Summer approaches, don’t delay in reaching your fitness goals! This class will supercharge fat oxidation and calorie burning! Using medium to heavy weights, participants can expect to engage in

compound weightlifting and bodyweight exercises focused on the front (anterior or ventral) of the body as well as the back (posterior or dorsal) of the body. A mat will also be used.

Moderate to Advanced fitness levels suggested.

Standing Taut Sport Tabata with Ashley: (Long) jump squats, track sprints, soccer kicks and more will be explored during this high-intensity interval class! 20 seconds of hard work followed by 10 seconds of recovery will guide this sportinfluenced workout! No weights needed, only bodyweight.

60-Second Fit Challenge with Charissa: Take it back to the basics with this special edition, timed fitness challenge that involves bodyweight and a mat. Classic fitness test exercises like sit-ups, chair dips, push-ups, jumping jacks and more will engage participants in mid-to-high intensity cardiovascular + strength movements. A chair is also suggested.

Core Fit Flex + Loop Bands with Shannon: Increase the intensity of a basic core class by incorporating resistance bands!

The core consists of the back extensors, abdominals, lateral trunk muscles and the hips. Using weights and loop bands, participants will engage the core muscles and strengthen the trunk for better posture and daily functionality. A mat is also suggested.

Amazing Abs with Ashley: To neglect the abdominals is to neglect imperative muscles groups integral to movement!

Strengthen the abdominals, which consist of the rectus abdominis, transverse abdominis, internal and external obliques, with exercises in durations of 45 seconds of work followed by 15 seconds of rest. Mostly on the floor, a mat is suggested for this class.

Spring Training Tabata with Shannon: Tabata has many health benefits including the ability to increase aerobic and anaerobic capacity. Anaerobic capacity represents the maximum amount of energy that can be produced by the body in the absence of oxygen. Aerobic capacity is a measure of the ability the lungs and heart have to get oxygen around the body.

Participants should prepare to perform exercises at maximum effort for 20 seconds, followed 10 seconds of rest or recovery.

Light to heavy weights will be used. Moderate to advanced fitness levels suggested.

Kickbox Fit Challenge with Charissa: Back at it with a special edition of authentic kickboxing! This class will be structured into 60-second bouts of work, followed by 15 seconds of rest or recovery. Prepare to engage in kickboxing combinations consisting of hits and kicks. This is a total body workout that you don’t want to miss! No equipment needed.

Low-Impact Cardio Fit with Ashley: This moderate intensity workout will increase your heart rate without the presence of weights, jumping or transitioning from standing to the floor and back to standing. Intervals of 30 seconds of work will be explored, followed by 10 second recovery periods. Feel free to count your steps with your own Fitbit or step counter! No equipment needed.

Dance Fitness with Charissa: So you think you can dance?!

Look no further. Commit to this class consisting of hi-lo, jazz, free style, salsa and hand dance influences for an invigorating and energetic dance experience! No dance experience necessary.

Yoga for Athletes with Shannon: Every athlete can benefit from the mind-body connection that is Yoga. This nontraditional Yoga class is designed to increase flexibility, mobility and range of motion for optimal sport performance.

Participants can expect to move through a Hatha practice with a focus on breath, alignment, and mental and spatial awareness.

A mat and blocks will be used.

Total Compound Strength with Ashley: Engaging two or more muscle groups simultaneously, compound weight training is for the fit enthusiast that enjoys multi-tasking! Intervals of 45 seconds of work followed by 15 seconds of recovery will be performed using medium to heavy hand weights. A mat is also suggested.

Lower Body Extravaganza with Shannon: Exercise all the muscle groups at the waist and below during this strength and conditioning class! Integral to movement, the hip flexors and the limbs are necessary to mobility and stability. Participants will need medium to heavy weights and a mat.

Lateral Chain Challenge with Charissa: The lateral chain is a connection of muscles/fascia/soft tissue that spans the outside of the body. The lateral chain includes the neck musculature, obliques, abductors, IT band, and intercostals. In 60-second intervals, participants can expect to work at maximal effort or to exhaustion with subsequent by 15-second recovery cycles. 1 heavy weight and a mat will be used.

Glider Fit with Ashley: Grab a set of paper plates or fitness gliders for this total body, low-impact glider workout! Intervals of 30 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest will be explored. A mat is suggested.

Fat Burn Fit with Charissa: Oxidize fat and maximize oxygenation with this high-intensity interval class! Tabata intervals of 20 seconds of hard work followed by 10 seconds of recovery performed for 3 sets will guide this total body strength and conditioning experience! Medium to heavy weights and a mat will be used. Moderate to advanced fitness levels suggested.

Stretch + Foam Roll with Shannon: Recover shortened muscles and tissues and engage in self-myofascial release with this guided class using a foam roller and a mat! Stretching and foam rolling help to prevent injury, increase range of motion, improve flexibility and more! Go into the weekend relaxed and de-stressed!

Memorial Mania with Ashley: There is arguably no better way to incite energy and improve your mood than to exercise!

Jumpstart your holiday weekend with this bootcamp-based, high-intensity fitness class! 45-second bouts of hard work followed by 15-second intervals of rest or recovery will be performed. Light to heavy weights and a mat suggested.

Food Trucks Return May 3rd

Join us Monday – Friday from 11am – 2pm for Food Trucks in Lot 10H, near the South entrance to Bldg. 10. The trucks return May 3rd and are scheduled to run thru September. Online preordering is encouraged when applicable. Menus will be available on the R&W website and daily reminders and updates will be sent via the R&W ListServ. The following trucks are expected to participate this year.
