Yoga Strong with Shannon: Find strength in this Yoga practice that focuses on building balance and stability and consistent pranayama (breath awareness and control). No weights needed. Circuit Circus with Charissa: This is not your conventional fitness class! Combine elements of Pilates, Yoga, Functional Fitness, Gymnastics, Bootcamp and Calisthenics during this 30min total body workout! Using your body weight, prepare to focus on alignment, technique, precision and control while moving thru various movement combinations. Don’t miss this moderate to strong intensity class for the consistently active! Target Tabata (Lower Body) with Ashley: It’s all about the hips and legs in this 30-min moderate-to-high intensity interval class! Using your own bodyweight, push thru 20-sec intervals of hard work followed by 10-sec of recovery! This strength-based workout will include the use of weights though weights are not necessary. Strong & Stable with Shannon: With a focus on proper posture and alignment, revisit common functional movements to find efficacy in your approach to fitness. This total body strength and stability class includes weights. Core on the Floor with Charissa: It’s a 30-min trunk explosion! The mantra is “Strong core, strong body”! Think of this class as a detox of the center. Move thru exercises that help to “flush” the gut and strengthen the body from the inside out! From the tailbone to the base of the head, this core-focused class will challenge beginners to seasoned fitness vets! Target Tabata (Upper Body) with Ashley: Finish out the work week with this 30-min upper body class! Strengthen the abdominals, chest, back, and arms with 20-sec intervals of hard work, followed by 10-sec of recovery. HIIT Heat with Shannon: High Intensity Interval Training consists of intense exercises performed in short bursts, followed by a short recovery rest period. Class combines cardiovascular and strength movements for a total body workout! Hand weights used. Hilo-Lo Sculpt Combo with Charissa: Rewind to the days of jazz and freestyle movement cardio fused with bodyweight strengthening cardio movement! Think Richard Simmons meets Jane Fonda! No equipment is necessary as you grapevine and grunt through this fun + calorie-blasting class! Express Cardio with Ashley: Engage in cardiovascular intervals of 30-sec strong and 10-sec off (recovery)! Using your bodyweight, you will move thru short cycles of moderate-to-strong intensity movement followed by short breaks. No hand weights. Functional Fitness with Shannon: Functional movement consists of the combination of muscles and joints required to complete daily tasks. This class will focus on functional skills to improve mindbody connection. Weights will be used Barre Basics with Charissa: Lengthen and strengthen the body during this 30-min express ballet fitness inspired class! Learn 1st, 2nd and 3rd position arm and leg exercises that encourage proper posture and hip/core health. This low-to-moderate impact class will challenge muscles that you likely often ignore! Express Bootcamp with Ashley: Push-ups! Sit-ups! Mountclimbers and more! Go back to “basic training” with this total-body fitness challenge! Cardiovascular movements and bodyweight movements will be explored during this 30-min class. No hand weights necessary.
Coast to Coast Fitness Challenge Registration Now Open
Put on your bell-bottoms, grab your favorite cassettes, and pack the Polaroid® for a fun-filled, nostalgic journey to some of America’s most popular out-of-the-way places. NIH, is participating in Coast to Coast, a fun and invigorating fitness and walking challenge available to all NIH employees sponsored by Kaiser Permanente. The challenge starts July 21 . You will be whisked-away on a virtual shore-to-shore tour. Coast to Coast will take you across this great land of ours, stopping at amazing attractions with postcard-perfect vintage and modern images, plus “bet-youdidn’t-know” descriptions. Each day you’ll visit a new attraction, earning points and “road signs” as you record exercise minutes or steps. To make this exciting challenge even easier, you can link your own personal tracking device (Fitbit, Garman, etc.) with the Coast to Coast website or mobile app. Your step count will automatically update daily to help you keep pace with the competition and keep track of your personal goals. Speaking of competition, you won’t be alone on your Coast to Coast journey. You will be “competing” with other NIH employees in a race to earn the most points. But wait! There’s more! You can also choose to team-up with 3 or 4 other coworkers for a friendly and exciting team competition, even if you’re social distancing. 2020 Mobile Mammography Screening
The NIH R&W is working with GW Mammovan to reschedule our 2020 Mobile Mammography schedule. The offering of these screenings this year will depend on the reopening of NIH to employees as well as how the current pandemic continues. The GW Mammovan will be taking all safety precautions to keep those being screened safe. Look for an update schedule to come in July or August on the R&W website or in the August R&W Newsletter.

Feds Feed Families Campaign Runs Thru July 31
This year's campaign will conclude on July 31st.
