Join the NHLBI’s National Pledge to #MoveWithHeart This American Heart Month (February), and throughout the year, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is encouraging people across the country to reduce their risk factors for heart disease. A healthy lifestyle — physical activity, healthy eating and weight, and not smoking — can substantially lower the risk of heart disease and stroke. Only about 20 percent of adults meet the federal government’s physical activity guidelines for both aerobic and musclestrengthening activities. Spending just 2 1/2 hours per week doing physical activity that gets your heart pumping and leaves you a little breathless can add up to significant health benefits, including lowering your blood pressure. Take the stairs, park farther away, jump rope, go for a brisk walk, or just dance! Join the NHLBI in a national pledge to #MoveWithHeart this American Heart Month by recording a video of yourself saying “I pledge to move more for my heart health.” Get creative by demonstrating your favorite physical activity. Challenge your friends on social media to join you. Submit your pledge at www.movewithheartpledge.com (live around January 8th) or share on Twitter or Instagram using #MoveWithHeart. Visit www.nhlbi.nih.gov/heartmonth for more info. Also be sure to join the line dancing class in the Clinical Center Atrium and wear something red on National Wear Red Day, on Friday, February 2nd. ♥ ♥

This was the reason Special Love was created. Special Love programs, including Camp Fantastic, offer children with cancer the chance to jump, play, explore, laugh, swim and make friends through a community of support, made up of patients, family, and staff who know and understand the trials and triumphs of battling childhood cancer. We need your contributions to assist Special Love in their mission. Be a phantom camper by giving a donation. Enjoy camp without the bugs, sunburn or snoring counselors! Here’s how you can help. $25 sends a hug to camp $75 sends a child to camp for the day $125 feeds a child for a week $250 sends a child to camp for a weekend $400 sends a family to camp for a weekend $650 sends a child to camp for the week Donations are tax deductible. Make checks payable to the R&W Foundation and send to R&W, Bldg. 31 Rm. B1W30. Together we can make a difference in the life of a child with cancer.
