SOUS CHEF KIDS NIGHT IN BOX

Dear Adults,

LET’S PRACTICE

Welcome to your Faith Family Fun discussion guide! Thank you for letting us join you as you encourage your little one(s) to experience the love of Jesus. We hope to offer an enjoyable, interactive way for your little one(s) to connect to the beautiful message of the Gospel.

The fruits of the spirit are A LOT to remember, that is why we are going to practice!

As your little one(s) have some fun in the kitchen with their Kids Night In Box, we want to use this as a time to get them thinking about the fruits of the Spirit. The fruits of the Spirit are gifts that God gives us to help us show His love to others. Explain to them that God himself uses this tool to be an example of how we are to love one another.

MEMORY VERSE: Galatians 5:22-23 (ICB)

“But the Spirit gives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. There is no law that says these things are wrong.”

DISCUSSION Pause for a moment and discuss the following questions with your little one(s): • •

What do you think when you hear ‘fruit of the Spirit’? In the verse above what do you think are the fruits?

READ ALOUD Whenever you hear the word “fruit” what comes to mind? For most people it is probably bananas, oranges, apples, kiwis, grapes and many more delicious, healthy snacks! In the Bible God talks about a different kind of fruit -- the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the spirit gives us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. These are all the ingredients we need to be a good follower of Christ. Whenever you see a peach tree what do you expect to find growing on it? Peaches, of course! Well, whenever you see a person who is filled with God’s love we should see the fruit of the Spirit coming from them! This means they should be loving, joyful, a peace-maker, kind, good, faithful, gentle and have self control. Whenever you let these ingredients shine through you it makes God very happy and shows others what God’s love is all about.

Locate your included Fruit of the Spirit sheet, brass fastener and crayons. Begin by coloring the two circles on the sheet. While coloring, discuss together each trait listed in the fruit of the Spirit and what it means to act this way. Next, cut out the full circle and partial circle from the sheet. Place the partial circle directly on top of the full circle and create a hole in the center, where the black dot is, to stick the brass fastener through. Fold both of the fasteners ‘legs’ down on the back of the circle to make it stay in place. Then spin the top circle to reveal all the different parts of the fruit of the spirit!

CHALLENGE Alright little ones, are you up for a challenge!? We want to challenge you to take this lesson a step further. For the next 9 days we want to encourage you to focus on a ‘fruit of the day’. Start day 1 with love, day 2 with joy, day 3 with peace, etc. Begin the day by talking in depth about the fruit you are focusing on that day. Discuss what it means and the different actions you can show to express the ‘fruit’. Then try to really be intentional with displaying this fruit throughout the day. Repeat this process with each fruit of the spirit for the following 8 days! You can do it!

RECAP Remind your little ones that the fruit of the spirit is a GIFT from God to us. We should appreciate this gift and use it as a reminder of how to love others. Let’s say the memory verse one more time.

MEMORY VERSE: Galatians 5:22-23 (ICB)

“But the Spirit gives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. There is no law that says these things are wrong.”

LET’S PRAY TOGETHER: Dear God, thank You for giving us the fruits of the Spirit! Help us to let it shine through our words and actions as we show Your love to those around us. We love You and are grateful for Your love. Amen.
