The beautiful Ybbstal cycle route is built close to the water and gives nothing but great pleasure to cyclists. Because hardly anything promises more relaxation than to follow the quiet sounds of the river. Triestingau cycle route The Triestingau cycle route runs wildly romantic from north to south through the Vienna Woods thermal spa region. Still largely undiscovered to date, it is an insider tip for cyclists and, from Lanzendorf south of Vienna, a dreamy alternative to the thermal spa cycle path. It runs for 32 kilometres to Schönau an der Triesting. Old spinning, weaving and felt factories form the picture. Pleasure cyclists appreciate the flat paths on which quiet meadows alternate with convivial Heurigen places.

Piestingtal cycle route On a cycling tour through the Piestingtal you have similar goals as Ferdinand Raimund. Blooming gardens and magnificent villas inspired the dramatist to spend his summer retreat in the Piestingtal as early as the 19th century. On 38 kilometres along the rippling Piesting, the cycle path stimulates the imagination and runs from Sollenau railway station near Wiener Neustadt via Markt Piesting and Pernitz to Gutenstein. Framed by architecture worth seeing and wildly romantic river courses with enchanting wooden bridges, one could cycle endlessly. You should in any case stop and enjoy the view into the “paradise of views”.

The best tips for stops to enjoy Lower Austria’s inn culture

Along the three rivers Kamp, Thaya and March you travel through time. Past historic castles, proud palaces, timehonoured monasteries and museums. The 427-kilometre tour is easy to master in smaller stages. In the evergreen Waldviertel the tour starts sporty and then gradually moves on to the gently hilly Weinviertel.

Around Retz you will pass by vineyards and romantic cellar lanes, like those in the Pulkautal or in Wildendürnbach.

1 Wagram cycle route Along the edge of the Wagram, passing by cellar lanes and impressive loess formations. Starting from the Danube cycle path near Grafenwörth through meadows and forests to Grafenegg Castle. Continuing on to Feuersbrunn, Thürntal and Kirchberg am Wagram and via Unterstockstall to the cellar lanes of Königsbrunn and Absberg.

Past Stetteldorf Castle through the Au towards Tulln and back to the Danube cycle path.

From Melk upstream to the destination Loich/Dobersnigg. The section between Ober-Grafendorf and Loich can be conveniently shortened by taking the Mariazellerbahn.

3 Southern Waldviertel cycle routel A particularly charming tour, surrounded by vineyards and nature highlights across the Yspertal valley. Starting from Ysperdorf an der Donau in the municipality of Hofamt Priel and covering just under 58 kilometres by bike to Spitz an der Donau. Numerous attractions along the route such as Ysperklamm, Peilstein, Pöggstall Castle, Heiligenblut pilgrimage church and Sassingschlösserl castle ruins.

Through the Spitzer Graben along wine terraces back to the Danube.

The route continues via Pottenhofen and Ottenthal to the picturesque wine village of Falkenstein. Then via Poysbrunn, Herrnbaumgarten and Poysdorf back to Laa an der Thaya.
