‘It is required you do awake your faith’
King Leontes suspects his wife, Hermione, of infidelity with his best friend, Polixenes. He persuades his trusted minister, Camillo, to murder him. Polixenes flees the kingdom and in doing so unleashes events both tragic and mysterious.
Shakespeare’s play is an exploration on the themes of tyranny and betrayal, love and forgiveness. It mixes comedy with tragedy, and deep psychological drama; the relationship between honour and loyalty is tested over Time, leading to a surprising and magical resolution.
The play presents NIDA’s second year Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) students with the opportunity to engage with one of their first live theatre audiences. This workshop production is directed by NIDA’s Director, Centre for Acting, John Bashford.
