Bernadotte Wraps Gifts for Adopt-A-Family Tradition at December 9 4H Meeting
Bernadotte 4H held its monthly meeting for December at the New Ulm Public Library to discuss their agenda.

Tressa, Emmalie, Elizabeth, Evalyn, Masen, Paxton, Haley, Hudson, London, Mason, Ayla, Carlos, Evan, Marilyn, Kaleb, Alex Aurora, Paulette and Mary Owen, Blaire, Bryanna, Mark, Violet, are the future of 4H in Bernadotte, a
rural community in Nicollet County where agriculture and leadership are nearly synonymous. Their last names are withheld for privacy and safety at the request of Bernadotte 4H.
Holiday Cheer in North Mankato
Regional and local 4H chapter across the country participate in activities throughout the year such as parent’s meetings, safety/health education programs, picnics, music, future 4H’ers night, drama, camp-outs, environmental education programs, community service activities, recreation, window displays/ club booths, group/club exchange program, National 4H Week observance, holiday parties, Get Green promotions and international programs. The club in Bernadotte does such activities as ditch cleaning, sledding at Mount Kato in Mankato, bowling, local fairs, volunteering, a flower fundraiser and Lafayette Santa Day, which they
will also participate in this coming Tuesday, December 12 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Community Center in Lafayette. They also participate in Adopt-A-Family. As such, they wrapped gifts for families at their monthly meeting on December 9 at the New Ulm Public Library meeting room. The club discussed old and new business, including planning and approving a field trip to Crayola at the Mall of America in January. They will also hold a potluck dinner in January at the Lafayette Community Center. They plan on serving hot beef commercials with sides, salads and dessert. They plan to hold the event on January 7, 2024 at
5 p.m. Nikki Aschenbrenner and Linda Beranek are the co-leaders of Bernadotte 4H. There are around 24 members of Bernadotte 4H and the club dates back to the early 1920s, according to one of the members and confirmed by the coleaders. They hold their meetings on the third Sunday of each month. The 4H Group also discusses its budget and ways to raise funds for its activities. The 4H pledge is “I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living. For my family, my club, my community, my coun-

The Siemonsma/Scheurer residence on the 400 block of 4th Street was a target for
its backyard chickens, the report noted. Another complaint was lodged against the Hanel residence on the 300 block of 4th Street because the owner is alleged to be possibly operating a home-based business. Nicollet Mayor Fred Froehlich was
on record to say that a city ordinance already exists that prohibits keeping chickens in town. The city clerk read the nuisance ordinance that prevents poultry and farm animals in city limits, the report also stated. Another council
