Halloween Fun in Nicollet
by Ruth Klossner 507-240-0048 cowladyruth@gmail.com
Nicollet area kids had plenty to do Friday evening when four community groups cooperated to put on an evening of fun. Working together on the Halloween Celebration were the Nicollet After Prom Committee, Nicollet ECFE, Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Nicollet Chamber of Commerce. The fun all started with a 5:30 p.m. hot dog dinner at Nicollet Public School, put on by the NHS After Prom committee. For just five bucks, diners enjoyed a hotdog, chips, cookie, and bottle of water. At 6:00 p.m., the doors of the NHS gym opened to a big Halloween party, put on by the ECFE program. The party is a long-standing
tradition at the school, having been started by Nicollet ECFE founder Sue Erdman way back in 1990. She planned the party for 16 years. Carrie Hoffman is now the NPS ECFE and Little Raiders School Readiness coordinator and headed this year’s event. She relied on a big bunch of NHS students to make the event run smoothly. They set up and demonstrated the activities, handed out prizes, did face painting, and many more jobs. Those helpers were Jacob Horstmann, Savanna Mallak, Aidan Bruns, Cole Dallmann, Morgan Black, Jacelyn Wilking, Madison Kettner, Taylor Rosin, Emma Kuehn, Kade Forbrook, Jake Robb, Lincoln Bode, Matilda Carleton, Henry Carleton, Justin Rist, Karina Villarreal, Brooklyn Bode, Leah Bode, Cason Forbrook, Areyanna Hinrichs, Brooke Grommersch, Cheyenne Klockziem, Theresa Rosin, Ambria Hoffman, Morgan Arndt, Austyn Kramer, AJ Kramer, Talan Osborne, Brynn Grommersch, Taylor Wilking, Izzy Hornick, and Megan Soost. More than 150 kids took part in the fun activities—along with almost that many adults (who probably had fun, too!). About 7:00 p.m., nearly everyone jumped in their vehicles to head a few blocks south to the Trinity Lutheran Church parking lot for Trunk or Treat. The church’s newly cemented parking lot was ready just in time for the event. While new lighting
hadn’t been installed, the Nicollet Fire Department stepped in to provide portable lighting which did the job. Trinity volunteers served hot chocolate and goodies to the costumed kids, then the kids circled the parking lot to get more goodies from all the cars and vehicles. Many businesses, families, and individuals offered treats. No attempt was made to identify the kids in the photos as they were 1) incognito, 2) moving too fast, and 3) were too numerous to ID. Just enjoy the pics!
