Raider Seniors Saluted at Games by Ruth Klossner 507-240-0048 cowladyruth@gmail.com Nicollet High School’s senior athletes were saluted in special presentations at regular season games recently. Eleven Raider senior volleyball players were honored following the September 29 home game with Madelia. Younger classmates, spoke, telling what the seniors meant to them, presenting gifts, and giving them hugs. This year’s seniors are Morgan Arndt, Brooklyn Bode, Emma Drill, Brynn Grommersch, Ambria Hoffman, Olivia Lanz, Ellie Matter, Theresa Rosin, Tiana Sand, Shannon Soost, and

Jasmine Wilking. They accounted for almost 80 percent of the varsity players and will be missed next year. Football seniors were recognized just before the start of the Raider versus Mountain Lake grid game Wednesday, October 19. They were introduced at the sideline as PA announcer Conner Theis told a little about them—including the number of years they’ve played and their favorite football memory from their years on the team. They were presented with gifts by the undergrads. Graduating from this year’s team are Austyn Kramer, Austin Northquest, Jonathon Petersen, Justin Rist, Justin Slater, and The run-through banner for the final home game recognized the Raider seniors. Nicollet High School senior Austyn Kramer was recognized as the October Student of the Month at halftime of the Raider football game Wednesday, October 19. Kramer is currently enrolled in earth dynamics, band, calculus, CIS speech, CLEP US history, peer tutoring, and CLEP biology classes. When asked his favorite class, Austyn responded, “Band, because there is no homework.” Following graduation, Austyn is unsure of his plans. Kramer’s high school activities are football, basketball, baseball, trap shooting, and National Honor Society. When asked his favorite high school memory, Austyn mentioned Deep Portage. Kramer enjoys attending school in Nicollet, commenting that the best thing about NHS is “the people.” Austyn is an active student in the community. He’s been involved in cleaning and adopting road ditches, salt delivery, frozen food delivery,

The graduating cadets have backgrounds in law enforcement, military, health care, real estate, sales, and finance. Cadets began training at Camp Ripley on July 18. The 14-week course included motor vehicle crash investigation, traffic law, emergency vehicle operations,

scenario-based de-escalation, communication and mental health crisis training, and defensive tactics. After graduation, cadets will attend additional training at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension before starting field training with another trooper on Nov. 2.
