Alumacraft has laid off more employees at their Saint Peter aluminum boat manufacturing facility. They have been in the Saint Peter community for more than 70 years and were recently acquired by Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP). The parent company is located outside the United States and also owns Polaris, along with other

brands of recreational vehicles. Others include Ski-Doo, Evinrude, Rotax, Sea-Doo, Can-Am, Manitou and Telwater. Alumacraft is part of their marine division within their portfolio of subsidiary brands and companies. For the second time, the company was required by federal law to notify the state they would be laying off more than 100 employees. Alpha Media Lays Off All On-Air Talent

70 people. Several employees arrived to work this past Thursday and were told their positions were eliminated. Some have already spoken to media outlets to tell their stories. Many of the employees they let go, they recently hired within the past year or even more recently than that. Many local companies, especially manufacturers, were on a hiring spree. Now many of those same employers are announcing similar layoffs at their businesses.

On Monday, the 93rd Minnesota Legislature adjourned and State Representative Jeff Brand in the Minnesota House provided a snapshot of his policy achievements in the 2024 Legislative Session that has benefited his district, 18A. District 18A includes his hometown of Saint Peter and Nicollet County. “I’m incredibly excited about the things I was able to deliver for our community,” Brand said. Some examples he cited include $3.192 million in direct property tax cuts to Blue Earth, Le Sueur and Nicollet Counties; an additional $8.8 million in savings in the district, which Brand credits to more than 8,000 residents not being eligible for the child tax

credit; $1 million to help keep Pathstone Living and Benedictine Living community’s doors open; and helping to expand the River Watch program into Saint Peter High School. The legislature also ordered a number of fiscal reports as part of the tax bill to gather data to make the tax system more fair in years to come in Minnesota, according to an email update from Brand.
