“El CommunityLabrador”Sports Center

The building is located in an emblematic neighborhood of Quito, Ec. The Sports Center is a proposal for a public space where the local community is responsible for the activities of the building. The building’s main purpose is to activate social processes for community development. It was designed to promote social assemblies in public spaces that serve as social condensers and flow pedestrian colectors. Resurfacing with new users in “Parque Bicentenario”, full of stories and values, the Sports Center is the union between nature and city, the old (airport) and the new, both programs promoting the collective meeting.

The intention of the design is to work as a machine to generate and intensify human relationships, with colective spaces for well-being, rehabilitation, personal and social development. In this way, sport, health, and education are combined in the same space in order to embrace population of the Train Station, boulevard, park and city resulting as a social condenser.

The building is located in “La Mariscal” neighborhood, an historic and recognized area of Quito, Ecuador. The project is proposed exclusively for the pedestrian as an activity generator. It seeks to provide a wide public space in the city so that they interact in priority to the need of the pedestrian. Programs are proposed in favor of the use of the area in times of the day and permeability is generated in the public access to the interior of the project.

The Residential Building B is in the rear of the project and it contains two types divided in each floor. The apartment distribution contains double and triple apartments.

3 09 GENERAL VIEWS + URBAN CONTEXT

The idea starts from a group master plan with regulations based on a site analysis. The project located in “La Mariscal” neighborhood, an area with multiple commercial, recreational, and residential uses, seeks to take advantage of these conditions as an adaptation and dialogue with its surroundings. Trying to restore the initial residential character of the area in a way that the concept of the garden house is implemented and reinterpreted through substractions in the morphology. The independence of the houses is important and also teh odutdoor spaces that mantain the privacy.

This Ground floor plan helps to understand the interaction between each group project and the decisions made for the design. The big wall that divides every housing complex generate privacy as well as green areas. Wide circulation areas are shared for all the users

This isometric view is the result of the master plan and group regulations for design. The concept of garden house is seen as one of the main purposes to generate calm for the tra c flow and pedestrain walking around. It interacts with its context.

“La PublicCarolina”LibraryToinspirecuriosityandpasiion for exploring the library is designed around the idea of “hybrid space”. Di erent programs and activities are juxtaposed together to o er new connections across di erent levels. Wide circulation areas and steps that double as seating are informal spaces that can accomodate di erent activities. Small seating are also integrated into the facade and green areas to o er users intimate space when they require a moment of quiet. Green areas represente also the continuity of Parque La Carolina that is in front of the project.

CULTURAL

Wide interaction areas thanks to the volumetric fragmentation generating those meeting points that embrace the city, park and boulevard. Library and archive as the main volume that generate a central plaza for outdoors lecture rooms. Cultural volume is the representation of the historical context of the neighborhood and the city.
