We know a little something about making memories at the
Moonlight. Combined, the two of us have 57 years of history here. As a child, Colleen attended every summer with her grandma and performed in her first production with
the youth program at the age of nine. Moonlight was the first stage Steve and his wife, Bets, shared as a married couple and as a director he has helmed some of the most successful and award-winning productions in our history.
There is a reason why we are both back after having success in the theatre industry, Moonlight is special. Our goal is to make each patron feel as special, from the
moment you purchase a ticket to the moment you leave the Amphitheatre at the end of a performance.

our productions, Aida with music by Elton John, Disney’s The Little Mermaid,
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece Sunset Boulevard, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights (the creator of Hamilton’s first Tony Award winning musical).

With Elton John’s pulsating score and Tim Rice’s cleverly crafted lyrics, this rock musical breathes new life into this triumphant love story made famous in Verdi’s original opera of the same name. Chronicling the love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love, Aida is the most beautiful love story ever told. Forbidden love blossoms between them and soon the young lovers are forced to part forever or face death. Together, they set a shining example of true devotion that ultimately transcends time and the vast cultural differences between their warring nations, heralding an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity. Winner of four 2000 Tony Awards and named by Time Magazine as one of the best musicals that year. Moonlight Premiere!
JULY 19 – AUGUST 5 | 8 PM
In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Based on the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid features music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman. This fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including Under the Sea, Kiss the Girl, and Part of Your World. Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human, Prince Eric, in the world above and bargains with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But, the bargain is not what it seems and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull, and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea. AUGUST 16 - SEPTEMBER 2 | 8 PM
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece receives its San Diego Regional Premiere at the Moonlight. Sunset Boulevard weaves a magnificent tale of faded glory and unfulfilled ambition. Silent movie star Norma Desmond longs for a return to the big screen, having been discarded by tinsel town with the advent of “talkies.” When she meets struggling Hollywood screenwriter Joe Gillis in dramatic circumstances, their subsequent passionate and volatile relationship leads to an unforeseen and tragic conclusion. Based on the film noir classic by Billy Wilder, it received seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and features some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most soaring melodies. Sunset Boulevard is a spell-binding fable of dreams along the street where movies were born.

In the Heights is 2008’s Tony Awardwinning Best Musical about chasing your dreams and finding your true home. From Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of the hit Hamilton, this exhilarating musical tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood, a place where the coffee from the corner coffee shop is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes and dreams, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. Since the first production over 36 years ago, the celebration of diverse and inclusive theatre has grown Moonlight Stage Productions into one of Southern California’s most professional and mature performing Jon-Paul Hunten, Toria Watson arts institutions. MYT | MOONLIGHT YOUTH THEATRE
Moonlight Youth Theatre is an educational program dedicated to providing professional theatrical training for young people. Each year MYT helps hundreds of aspiring young actors, singers, and dancers pursue their dreams by providing performance opportunities through quality theatrical productions and show choirs, as well as educational opportunities through Workshops and Master Classes.
MYT is committed to providing an education in theatre arts that encourages teamwork and leadership skills and fosters the development of confidence, creativity, and consideration for others in the context of a professional environment. Classes are staffed by actors, directors, choreographers, musical directors and other theatre professionals. Performance opportunities include two staged productions at the AVO Playhouse and Moonlight Amphitheatre.
