GALA

CELEBRATING 38 YEARS OF ENHANCING OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH THE ARTS Saturday, May 12, 2018

FROM MOONLIGHT CULTURAL FOUNDATION What an honor to be sharing this evening with such wonderful supporters, colleagues and friends as we celebrate the Moonlight Cultural Foundation’s 9th annual gala, Razzle Dazzle! I am delighted to come together with all of the loyal and Angie Frazier esteemed long-time Moonlight patrons, as well as those newer to the theatre who have surely quickly come to love it, such as myself, to enjoy a spectacular evening. I feel extremely fortunate to have been welcomed so warmly to the Moonlight Cultural Foundation, and to be given the opportunity to play a small role in benefiting a phenomenal theatre. As a newcomer to Moonlight, I was absolutely blown away by the impressive caliber of productions executed in such a beautiful amphitheater! In the relatively short period of time I have been a member of the Cultural Foundation Board, I have noticed a common trend as more and more San Diegans, North County and beyond, are realizing what a gem we have here in our wonderful city of Vista. On the other side of the spectrum, I have also heard several personal stories about individuals who grew up attending the Moonlight with their parents and grandparents, and now bring their own children to the productions. What special memories to have and to continue to create! It is in large part due to the loyalty and support from our donors that Moonlight Stage Productions may continue to evolve and grow, and we thank you! Your generous contributions ensure that we continue to deliver the highest caliber of productions to the stage for many seasons to come. In his 5th season as Artistic Director, Steve Glaudini is knocking our socks off with the productions he brings to life on the Moonlight stage. Tonight, you will have the opportunity to experience a taste of the incredible 2018 lineup we have in store, as well as learn the lineup for the 2019 summer season! I look very forward to enjoying the Razzle and the Dazzle of tonight’s event with all of you. Let us celebrate together the past, present, and future successes of our beloved Moonlight. Enjoy a wonderful evening!

Good evening and welcome. It is with great pleasure that we share this evening with all our supporters and friends as we celebrate the Moonlight Foundation’s 9th annual signature Gala - Razzle Dazzle. It was nine years ago that I had the privilege of sitting with Robbie some amazing women who wanted Calderon-Hass to create an annual event for the Foundation that would thank and make our donors and patrons feel special. Here we are this evening and it is just as exciting and special as it was that first evening. So, thank you for your continuous and generous support which is vital to the future of our beloved Moonlight. With the help of some of our amazing partners, Moonlight Stage Productions, Moonlight Angel Auxiliary and the Moonlight Youth Theatre, we celebrate 38 years of high quality, outstanding theatre with a commitment to youth education and community outreach. Thanks to our Artistic Director Extraordinaire, Steve Glaudini and his creative genius, tonight you will be the first to experience some fantastic entertainment including selections from the upcoming summer season as well as a peek at the 2019 Summer Season. So sit back and enjoy and as we share the success of the Moonlight and celebrate friendships, partnerships and our love for the theatre. May this be a magical evening for you all!

In addition we are both honored to dedicate the inaugural Moonlight Ovation Award to the late Hans M. and Muriel Schiff. We are deeply moved and inspired by their profound dedication, commitment, and love for the Moonlight. We are also delighted to grant the 2018 Award of Excellence to the Moonlight Youth Theatre, not only for having their most successful year to date in 2017 and generously contributing to the Moonlight, but most importantly for the meaningful education and theatre experiences they provide and make accessible to young aspiring actors and technicians. We sincerely thank our wonderful and hard-working gala committee members who, alongside our diligent MCF Staff Jennifer Bradford and Justin Jorgensen Vierela, who have worked together to ensure that tonight’s gala will certainly be an evening to remember. Thank you also to our MCF President, Jeff Pashby, for your exemplary leadership, our Board of Directors for your continued commitment to the Moonlight, MCF Director of Education, Mike Bradford, and to the incredibly talented Producing Artistic Director, Steve Glaudini and Managing Director, Colleen Kollar Smith for your creativity and energy to make this evening a success. And last but not least, a huge thank you to the City of Vista for the beautiful gift of the Moonlight Amphitheatre and to our donors, patrons and volunteers.

MOONLIGHT OVATION AWARD 2018 Hans M. and Muriel H. Schiff

The highest honor bestowed upon a benefactor, The Moonlight Ovation Award pays tribute to the recipient’s exceptional generosity, dedication and vision on behalf of The Moonlight. The Ovation Award recipients personify humanity, compassion, and the essence of philanthropy, while motivating and inspiring others to help advance The Moonlight’s mission. There is no couple more fitting to honor as the inaugural recipients of this award than the late Hans & Muriel Schiff for their outstanding support of The Moonlight totaling over $1 Million. Hans and Muriel were loyal and truly committed donors to The Moonlight. Originally inspired by the quality of productions and love for their community, the Schiffs became more involved year after year. They were regular season sponsors, lifetime donors and generous supporters of the capital campaign. The two were profoundly dedicated to our beloved Moonlight and their generosity continues to inspire others. We thank the Schiff family for their loyal support.

MOONLIGHT AWARD OF EXCELLENCE 2018 The Award of Excellence honors an outstanding member of The Moonlight family who has gone above and beyond with their time, talents and treasure to push us toward our goals and has inspired others to follow along. Tonight we honor Moonlight Youth Theatre! 2018 marks the 25th anniversary of the Cultural Foundation’s arts education program, Encore Youth Theatre, now known as Moonlight Youth Theatre. This passionate group of volunteers has been dedicated to providing high-quality, professional theatrical training for young people ages 7-18 in our community. Each year MYT welcomes hundreds of aspiring young actors and stage technicians into their program through fully-staged productions, workshops, summer camps and MYT’s ever-growing Internship program. MYT encourages family support and participation while providing an education in theatre arts that encourages teamwork and leadership skills. The goal is to challenge young people to develop confidence, creativity and consideration for others in the context of theatre. After their most successful year, in 2017 MYT indeed went above and beyond by contributing $35,000 to directly benefit Moonlight Stage Productions. 5
