DIRECTOR’S NOTE

Lemurs and Penguins and Foosa, oh my! Welcome to Madagascar Junior with the one and only Moonlight Youth. It has been my pleasure to be working alongside these students as we embark on our own journeys. Some of us have been on this stage many times and know the ropes, many of us have never set foot on a stage before. But, what a glorious opportunity to come together and work as a team to grow and learn from each other.

This show may be silly and a fun homage to the movie franchise - and trust me, we’ve been having loads of fun! But, the strength of the story is in the heart. The “Fab Four” as we’ve deemed Marty, Alex, Gloria, and Melman, lead us on an adventure to what it means to be a friend through everything and how to work together to make Marty’s dream of the wild come true. Every student in this show had a specific team to work with and they’ve flourished. Be it the lemurs or the penguins or the foosa, each cast member brought a unique piece of their personality into this show. We had an awesome workshop day where our foosa leader, Laterra, came in with lyrics she’d written and we pieced together a whole sequence for our villains. It was inspiring and imagination at its core.

Thank you to all, but specifically the parents and adults of these children who made this show and experience possible. Special thanks to JD Dumas, who work with these students as professionals and opened their eyes to all they can achieve. Lastly, we all must acknowledge the true king of Madagascar, Mr. Mike Bradford. Without all you do we’d be lost! Now, let’s shake some booty and have some fun! Enjoy Madagascar! Director Sarah Errington

PRODUCER’S NOTE

Moonlight Youth Theatre is proud to have provided over 25 years of theatre education to students all over San Diego County. In 2016, we expanded our educational outreach and began a new partnership with The Vista Education Foundation. Through a generous annual donation, VEF has helped make it possible for dozens of students each year to be exposed to the “behind- the-scenes” magic of live theatre through our Theatre Internship Program. Students have the opportunity to work in a hands-on environment collaborating, designing and learning from theatre professionals. This method of learning has been so effective that it is being introduced in local schools as a means of integrating art with education. Earlier this year, MYT completed its first-ever student-led production; The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. With Madagascar - A Musical Adventure Jr., interns continue to be an integral part of our educational program, working on all aspects of the production. If you or anyone you know might be interested in learning more about the Internship Program, or if you or your business would consider a donation to help us continue to provide this important educational opportunity for students, please contact me or visit moonlightfoundation.com. Mike Bradford, Moonlight Cultural Foundation, Director of Arts Education mike@moonlightfoundation.com | (760) 500-3620
