WELCOME TO VICTOR/VICTORIA Welcome to the final show of our 39th summer season, the San Diego Regional Premiere of Victor/Victoria. Tonight, you will experience a glittering musical that features the sets and costumes from the Broadway production.

With its dazzling production numbers, Victor/Victoria is a spectacular ending to our season. While this may be our last musical of the summer, the experience of attending a show at The Moonlight continues year-round. If you have not already, you will want to buy tickets to the one-night-only performance of Into the Woods in Concert on Saturday, October 5. We are looking forward to reuniting with some Steven Glaudini and of your favorite Moonlight stars – with an orchestra – in Colleen Kollar Smith Stephen Sondheim’s popular musical. This concert benefits the Moonlight Cultural Foundation, our non-profit fundraising partner.

Our fall and winter Moonlight Presents offerings include concerts and film nights starting in October. Concerts include the Sweet and Tender Hooligans – the Ultimate Tribute to Morrissey and The Smiths – on October 26; the return of the Doo-Wop Project performing great doo-wop hits, along with current favorites, on November 9, a re-creation of Simon and Garfunkel’s historic Central Park Concert featuring Lee Lessack and Johnny Rodgers on November 30, and A Carpenters Holiday Concert featuring Top of the World on December 14. On the big screen under the stars, enjoy The Goonies on October 25 and Will Farrell in Elf on December 7 (with a play area with real snow for the kids to frolic in before the movie!).

The New Year brings back our popular indoor cabaret space, ClubM, from January through March. We will soon be announcing the line-up along with our Moonlight Presents series for spring. Next summer, we are rolling out the red carpet for our 40th anniversary season of FIVE spectacular Broadway musicals. In 2020, we are producing the San Diego Regional Premiere productions of An American in Paris (May 13 – 30), Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (July 15 – August 1), and Kinky Boots (September 9 – 26); the San Diego Premiere of Something Rotten (June 10 – 27); and our revival of Ragtime (August 12 – 29).

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR It is hard to resist the charms found in this evening’s production of Victor/Victoria. This classic comedy first premiered in an English language version as a feature film in 1982 starring Julie Andrews, Robert Preston, and James Garner. The film, directed

by Blake Edwards with music and lyrics by Henry Mancini and Leslie Bricusse, was an instant hit. It went on to receive multiple Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations as well as doing great box office. This was no small feat at a time when a screwball comedy, set in the arty world of “Gay Paris” in the early 1930s, featured a storyline of a “woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman.” Flash forward to 1995 when Blake Edwards takes the show to Broadway with Julie Andrews, still in the title role, but with a new cast and expanded score. Victor/Victoria played for 734 performances which included periods of time for both Liza Minelli and Raquel Welch to strut their stuff in the title role. The charms of this show are found in the beautiful music, the fabulous dancing, and the characters who are at once “larger than life,” yet grounded in reality, just as many of us are as well. We are blessed with an amazing company of performers who deliver all of this with a healthy dose of gut-busting comedy sure to please. The company, crew and staff of The Moonlight have made magic in creating a perfect party for enjoying a late summer night at The Moonlight.

BETS MALONE (Norma Cassidy) got her start right here in Vista and has been working as a professional actress across the country for the past three decades. She originated the role of Suzy Simpson in the hit show The Marvelous Wonderettes and can be heard on three Wonderette albums as well as the cast recording of Honky Tonk Laundry. Regional; Dirty Blonde, The Andrews Brothers, Next To Normal, Fun Home, Mamma Mia!, Aida, Seussical, Titanic, Big Fish, Mary Poppins, Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Sweeney Todd, 1776, Ragtime, On The Town, Evita, Annie Get Your Gun, Once Upon A Mattress, and The Rocky Horror Show. Her vocal talents can be heard as Talulah the Monkey in Barbie As The Island Princess and the singing voice of Velma in Scooby Doo Music Of The Vampire. She developed a one woman show entitled Broadway: The Broad Way coming to a theatre near you! MATTHEW RYAN (Ensemble) is returning to Moonlight after his debut in last summers’ Chicago. Other credits include: Fiddler on the Roof (Fyedka) at McCallum Theater, Cats (Macavity) at Broadway at the Gardens, West Side Story (Bernardo), and Newsies (Finch) at Theatre Royale. LANCE ARTHUR SMITH (Carroll “Toddy” Todd) is an actor, writer, and fight choreographer who was last seen at The Moonlight in The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Mamma Mia! His work has been seen locally at The Old Globe, San Diego Repertory Theatre, Cygnet Theatre Company, North Coast Repertory Theatre, Mo`olelo Performing Arts Company, Starlight Musical Theatre, ion theatre company, Intrepid Theatre Company, Vista’s Broadway Theater, Scripps Ranch Theatre, New Village Arts, San Diego Musical Theatre, Lamb's Players Theatre, and Welk Resort Theatre. WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST (in alphabetical order) JAMIE SNYDER (André Cassell) is excited to return to the Moonlight Amphitheatre.

Some of his favorite roles include Max in The Producers, Jim in All Shook Up, Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, and Amos in Chicago. A graduate of UCLA, his credits include performing for a year in Japan and touring Italy. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and toured as a singer with the Boston Pops. He is a teacher in Moreno Valley and lives in Riverside. Jamie thanks his friends and family, especially his mother, who has the best seat in the house.

HANK STRATTON (King Marchan) was last seen at the Moonlight as Joseph Pulitzer in Newsies and Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady. He starred in the Broadway revival of The Man Who Came to Dinner opposite Nathan Lane. For three seasons, he appeared in the CBS drama The Unit, in addition to recurring roles on Heroes and American Dreams. Other television work includes numerous films and guest appearances for NBC, ABC, CBS, Hallmark and HBO. He has starred with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and in the national tours of Copenhagen and Cabaret. Hank is currently on faculty at the University of Arizona where he serves as the Division Head of BFA Acting, and the Artistic Director of Arizona Repertory Theatre. He is a graduate of The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. SUSAN STUBER (Ensemble) is thrilled to be back at The Moonlight. Favorite credits here include Titanic (Ida Strauss), Sister Act (Sister Mary Lazarus), The Music Man (Mrs. Paroo), Little Women (Marmee), and Cats (Jennyanydots). When not performing, Susan teaches music at Grapevine Elementary in Vista. Thanks to God for His many blessings and my husband for his support. HELEN TAIT (Ensemble) is thrilled to be making her debut on the Moonlight stage!

She was most recently seen in No, No, Nanette at the Candlelight Pavilion. Previous roles include A Perfect Christmas (Winkie the Elf), The Little Mermaid (Mersister), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Rosa Bud), and Quilters (Daughter), along with principal roles in two operas at the University of Redlands. Helen would like to thank her family and friends for their endless love and support.

SUSANNA VAUGHAN (Ensemble) is thrilled to be back at Moonlight after playing a Mersister in The Little Mermaid. COHEN (Stage Manager) has stage managed over 70 Moonlight productions including most recently Matilda the Musical, The Producers, Chicago, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Mamma Mia! BONNIE DURBEN (Properties Master) returns to The Moonlight having just worked on West Side Story, Matilda The Musical and Mel Brooks’ The Producers as well as the entire 2018 season of Mamma Mia!, Newsies, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Chicago. Her association with The Moonlight started in 2007. Productions elsewhere: Animal Crackers, Legend of Georgia McBride, A Little Night Music, Wind and Breeze and numerous other productions at Cygnet; Pirates of Penzance, All My Sons, Hay Fever, and School for Scandal (MiraCosta College Theatre); and various productions at Diversionary Theatre, Scripps Ranch Theatre, Roustabouts and Backyard Renaissance. STEVEN GLAUDINI (Producing Artistic Director) It was twenty-three years ago that Steven made his Moonlight debut as Smee in Peter Pan. It has been a love affair with The Moonlight ever since. Recent Moonlight credits have been Director of the recent hits: West Side Story, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Big Fish, My Fair Lady, South Pacific, Sweeney Todd, Hairspray, Miss Saigon, Cats, Les Misérables (2008 San Diego Critics Award for Best Director), West Side Story, Cabaret, and Children of Eden. He thanks you for the support you give Moonlight Stage Productions…the theatre that started the career of his wife, actress Bets Malone.

Steven credits The Moonlight with the start of his professional career which has led him to several positions, including: five years as Artistic Director/Producer at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach, CA. At MTW, Steven directed Monty Python’s Spamalot, Annie (starring Andrea McArdle), Little Shop of Horrors, Mel Brooks’ The Producers, the Regional Premiere of All Shook Up, The Pajama Game, The Pirates of Penzance (starring Rex Smith), The Full Monty, and five years as the Executive Director/Producer of Performance Riverside in Riverside, CA. Steven was recently honored by the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle with the Craig Noel Award for the Producer of the Year of 2014.

PETER HERMAN (Wig Designer) has designed wigs for over thirty productions at Moonlight Stage Productions since 2002. Peter has designed wigs all over the Southern California area, including The Old Globe Theatre, The La Jolla Playhouse, The San Diego REP, as well as some design work for film, television, and various theme parks. Peter currently teaches wig and makeup design at San Diego State University.

KATHLEEN KENNA (Makeup Designer) most recently painted faces for San Diego Opera’s Carmen, Three Decembers, Rigoletto, and The Marriage of Figaro. She makes custom fitted beards for the various Santas at the San Diego Zoo, one hair at a time. She is excited to be a part of Moonlight’s summer season again this year. Thank you Steve and Colleen! Makeup can transform an actor to be a princess, a monster, and everything in between. It is exciting and fun to be a part of bringing the magic together to captivate an audience for a few hours. WHO’S WHO BEHIND THE SCENES CARLOTTA MALONE, ROSLYN LEHMAN, RENETTA LLOYD (Costume Coordination and Execution) are marking their eleventh summer season that the talents of these three women have combined to clothe the Moonlight Family. Roz has been involved for the past 23 years, Carlotta has been involved since the first season, 39 summers ago. Renetta joined the team 10 years ago when she returned to live in Vista. Recent Moonlight shows which have benefited under their combined expertise are West Side Story, Matilda The Musical, Mel Brooks’ The Producers, Mamma Mia!, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Titanic, Big Fish, The Little Mermaid and Sunset Boulevard to name a few. Roz and Renetta have costumed shows at MiraCosta College, North Coast Rep, Oceanside Theater Company, Intrepid, San Diego Musical Theater, Scripps Ranch, The Welk, Cal State San Marcos, and Premiere Productions. Carlotta has worked at Coyote Stage Works, Musical Theater West, The Welk Resort, Starlight, and Performance Riverside. Carlotta was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Moonlight Angels. Earlier this year and at the end of last summer Roz and Renetta designed and built Chicago for the Moonlight, the stunning Pirates of Penzance at MiraCosta College, and have just finished designing Man of La Mancha at Oceanside Theatre Company. Renetta has provided additional costume design for several recent Moonlight shows, including West Side Story, Matilda The Musical, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and all of the Norma Desmond wardrobe for Sunset Blvd. Renetta has recently built iconic “Action Figure” costumes for Wondercon and Comicon. These can be seen on her Instagram @natty.lou.creations.

SAMANTHA McLAUGHLIN (Technical Director) is thrilled to join The Moonlight this summer as Technical Director. Prior to arriving here, Samantha worked in numerous theatres throughout San Diego County including the San Diego Civic Theatre, The Old Globe Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, and many more. Samantha most recently spent the last six years as Associate Technical Director, and Director of the Theater Tech Intern Program, at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido EDEN MICHEL (Assistant Stage Manager) is proud to be returning for another great season at The Moonlight. Thank you to Stan for guiding and teaching me, Steve and Colleen for giving me the opportunity to work great shows, and to all the Moonlight staff for their amazing work keeping this theatre moving forward.

LYNDON PUGEDA (Music Director and Conductor) is excited to be back for his 11th season with Moonlight! His work around Southern California, on both the professional and educational levels, has received much recognition, including a Craig Noel Award nomination and two National Youth Arts Awards for Outstanding Musical Direction.

WHO’S WHO BEHIND THE SCENES COLLEEN KOLLAR SMITH (Managing Director) is honored to serve as the Managing Director for Moonlight Stage Productions. A native Vistan, she first performed at The Moonlight in the youth production of Cinderella, and over time became co-director for the same program. A graduate of USD’s Nonprofit Leadership and Management Master’s Program, Colleen has worked as the Executive Director of San Diego Musical Theatre and Director of Development for Lamb’s Players Theatre. While at Lamb’s, Colleen was also a member of the resident ensemble where she performed in/choreographed dozens of productions, co-created the long-running musical Mixtape, and orchestrated the Guinness World Record breaking event and fundraiser 100 Hours of Stories. She and her husband, Lance, are thrilled to watch their own kids, Scottie and Pepper make their memories at the Moonlight.

JEAN-YVES TESSIER (Lighting Designer) is a primate with a single opposable thumb. He hails from the cold reaches of Canada and once had a sexy French accent.

JOHN VAUGHAN (Director and Choreographer) is a busy director/choreographer with over 400 productions to his credit. He is pleased to return to The Moonlight having choreographed or directed previous productions of Mamma Mia!, Aida, Sister Act, The Music Man, Mary Poppins, Tommy, Legally Blonde, Hairspray and many others.

John has directed or choreographed many large corporate shows including events for WonderWare Software, NBC, The Broadway Department Stores, Mattel Corporation, Dick Clark Productions and Ogden Entertainment as well as international projects in Tokyo and Buenos Aires. He has directed “The CHOC Follies” for Children’s Hospital of Orange County for the past 22 years, raising over 11 million for this lovely organization.

John is currently the Dean of Visual and Performing Arts at Citrus College, where he previously served as a faculty member for 20 years. A big thanks to the entire Moonlight organization and supporters - especially Steve, Colleen, Lyndon, Stan, Eden and this fabulous cast and crew. It’s great to be back!

ABOUT THE MOONLIGHT Forty years ago, Kathy Brombacher stood on what was then a concrete stage with officials from the City of Vista and the Vista Unified School District. With no electricity, running water, or bathrooms, Brombacher proclaimed that the small stage and grassy tiers could be home to musical theatre during the summer. The “Vista Summer Theatre Festival� was born and from 1981 through 1983, the city and the school district jointly produced the shows. In 1984, the festival was brought under the umbrella of the city and the theatre was renamed the Moonlight Amphitheatre.

For 31 years, until her retirement on December 31, 2012, Brombacher led the development of what is now known as Moonlight Stage Productions as Producing Artistic Director. Today, Moonlight Stage Productions is recognized as one of San Diego County's major theatres, critically acclaimed for its Broadway-quality musicals. Led by Producing Artistic Director Steven Glaudini and Managing Director Colleen Kollar Smith, The Moonlight is experiencing an exciting period of audience growth and artistic vigor. Combined with Glaudini's artistic direction and buoyed by the reconstruction of the Moonlight Amphitheatre in 2008/09 with a state-of-the-art stage house, The Moonlight welcomes its audiences to experience Broadway's Best Under the Stars. In the fall of 2014, Moonlight Presents was inaugurated in order to present performing arts events year-round outside of the summer. Managing Director Colleen Kollar Smith curates the programming which has seen a 40% increase in attendance under her guidance.

For 25 years, Moonlight Youth Theatre has provided awardwinning theatrical training to the North County Community.

MYT offers programs designed for youth from age 7 to 18 of various skill levels who are interested in all areas of theatrical performance.
