DIRECTOR’S NOTES
Let’s journey back to 2002, tis the season of the Tony Awards. I was a junior in High School, painfully shy, had recently been introduced to performing and fell hard and fast in love with the art form. It gave me community and a voice I didn’t have before- but back to the Tony Awards. The number up next is from a new musical at the time, set in 1920s, starring a then unknown Sutton Foster who rose from the chorus as understudy and ended the night with a Tony for Best Actress in a Musical. How could I not become obsessed?! I already adored the oddball movie starring Julie Andrews, Mary Tyler Moore, and Carol Channing, the era of the 20’s is one I can’t get enough information and feel like we could learn so much from today, and then you show me a number of 15 women singing and tapping their hearts out. Needless to say, I wore out that VHS (yep) trying to emulate everything Sutton did, learning all the choreography from the number. I got the soundtrack and listened incessantly, the tour came through cities nearby and I caught it twice. A few years later I went away to school and my senior year the musical was Thoroughly Modern Millie - and that was the first show my wife, Rae, and I did together. So, to say this show holds a special place in my heart is an understatement. Now, getting the immense privilege of not only working on a show I adore, but with a fresh set of eyes from the actors (I refuse to call them kids or even teens because what they have shown me is they work hard and do the work just like any of the pros and are more than capable if you challenge them and believe in them). From the generation of now…of Pokemon-GO! Why are they interested in this show? Does it resonate with the audience of today? Here’s what I noticed in conversations with the cast. They do relate because at the core, Millie is just like all of us. We all want to find love, we all have hopes and dreams, we all want to fit in and be “Modern!” Of course, the story is a period piece and clearly stylized in the story telling, but we see a woman with so much charm and pluck go after her dreams with a passion and fire to be reckoned with, she discovers who she is and who she is not in the process, and ultimately takes the leap of faith needed to achieve her own happiness. Even if it looks different than how she expected. Be open, take the leap, and enjoy the show- thoroughly! ~ Sarah Errington

SARAH ERRINGTON (Director) Sarah could not be more thankful to be working with the dream of a production team, but also with the incredible talent of the cast that has been brought together through MYT. You may have seen her in one of the shows at Moonlight this season as Sister Mary Robert in Sister Act, Tootles in Peter Pan, and Kate Mullins in Titanic. Sarah currently works a full time actor throughout San Diego County including Moonlight Stage Productions, New Village Arts, Welk Resorts Theatre, North Coast Rep, San Diego Rep, Diversionary Theatre, and Cygnet Theatre. She currently holds the position of Resident Choreographer for the LEGO Friends Live at LEGOLAND California Resort where she also most recently wrote and directed Monster Fighter Mash and The Witchettes as a part of the Brick-Or-Treat which runs through all of October. Up next she will be out and about on the McCoy Rigby Entertainment’s national tour of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as the misfit reindeer himself. A special thanks to Bets and Steve and the Moonlight Foundation for making a program like this possible and allowing me to be a part of the beautiful work that they put together. Thank you to Lyndon and Danny for your positive spirits and encouragement, the cast is lucky to have you- to Mike and all the Bradfords… for everything! DANNY HANSEN (Choreographer) Having spent the last 4 years working as a professional stage performer here in Southern California, Danny finally makes his California debut as a choreographer for Moonlight Youth Theatre! Considering his involvement at the Moonlight the last few years, he’s so excited that the kids of MYT get to experience the same feelings of excitement performing on this beautiful stage. Past Moonlight shows include: South Pacific, Young Frankenstein, Mary Poppins, Catch Me If You Can, All Shook Up, Music Man, Shrek, Big Fish, and most recently Addams Family. WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST (in alphabetical order) Ellie Barrett (Gloria/Stenog) is 16-years-old and a junior at San Marcos High School. Ellie has performed at various San Diego theatre venues including San Diego Opera, San Diego Musical Theatre, and the Welk Resort Theatre. Her favorite roles include Cinderella from Into the Woods, Princess Fiona in Shrek the Musical, and Miss Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Millie. You can catch Ellie next month as Miss Sandra in All Shook Up. Ellie would like to thank her family for supporting her and Moonlight Youth Theatre for the opportunity. Abigail Beaman (Modern/Office Clerk) is a freshman at Rancho Buena Vista High School. This is her first debut in a musical. Abby’s favorite musical is Hamilton, of course. Abby loves to sing and has memorized the tunes for a variety of musicals. She is in the award-winning RBV color guard this year and hopes to be more involved in plays and musicals going forward.
Jenna Bell (Modern/Office Clerk) is so excited to be performing on the fabulous Moonlight Stage. She is a freshman at Mission Vista High School and is on the Cross Country team. Her favorite role was Ariel in Little Mermaid Jr. She has also been in Seussical, Guys and Dolls, Willy Wonka, A Christmas Carol, Zombie Prom and so many more. Outside of musical theatre and school, Jenna enjoys playing the piano, surfing, off road riding and singing. Lily Blackman (Stenog/Modern) is 13 years old and in eighth grade at Village Gate Children’s Academy. She is excited to be part of Thoroughly Modern Millie with Moonlight Youth Theatre. Lily has performed in other shows with The Star Theatre in Oceanside, including the role as Annie in Annie, Jr. and with North County School of the Arts. She has truly enjoyed rehearsing and would like to thank everyone at Moonlight Youth Theatre for all their faith, time, energy, and guidance. Cassie Bleher (Millie) is a 17-year-old junior at CAHS. She is ecstatic to be playing Millie! Some of Cassie’s past roles include: The Witch in Into the Woods, Belle in Beauty & the Beast, the Dragon in Shrek, Laurey in Oklahoma and Ariel in The Little Mermaid. She has received three NYA Awards & five nominations. Cassie would like to thank her vocal coach for always challenging her, her mom for her endless love & support and God for the opportunity to perform. John 8:32 Jake Bradford (Jimmy Smith) is a 17-year-old senior at RBVHS. He hopes you enjoy the show. Josh Bradford (Muzzy’s Boy/Kenneth) is 13- years-old and in the 8th grade at Roosevelt Middle School. This is Lily’s 3rd production with MYT (Tarzan, Joseph…. Dreamcoat). Other credits include Music Man (Carlsbad Community Theatre), Annie (STAR Theatre). Lily is 13 (finally!) and attends Classical Academy, she enjoys hiking, suspense novels, classic movies, tennis, basketball & computer coding. Big smoochy thanks to my familia for their love & supporting all my endeavors. Maya Carles (Ruth/Stenog) is 18-years-old and attending Mira Costa Community College. She is currently employed at Legoland in the Lego Friends to the Rescue show as Mia. Her most recent show was The Little Mermaid as Ariel. Maya is so excited for this opportunity to perform on the Moonlight stage! Lainie Carter (Rita/Stenog) is an 8th grader at Meadowbrook Middle school in Poway. Lainie developed her love of musical theatre at age 8 in North Carolina. Since then she has acted in almost 20 productions over the past 5 years. Some of her favorite roles include Gavroche (Les Misérables), James (James and the Giant Peach), Jojo (Seussical) and Marta (The Sound of Music). Lainie is thrilled to be part of her first Moonlight Youth production and hopes you can see how much fun they have had putting this show together! Sittichai Chaiyahat (Ching Ho) is thrilled to be back with Moonlight Youth Theatre in their production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. He is 17-year- old and a senior at Oceanside High School. Favorite credits include Feda in The Boy Who Danced On Air (Diversionary Theatre), Tarzan’s Father/Clayton in Tarzan (Moonlight Youth Theatre), Georg in Spring Awakening (Palomar College), Pinocchio in Shrek the Musical (Star Repertory Theatre), and the Baker in Into the Woods (Ovation Theatre). He would like to thank his family, friends, and voice teacher, Debbie Nicastro, for all their love and support. Megan Clardy (Stenog/Modern) is a 12-year-old 7th grader at Santa Fe Christian School. She has been on the stage before in several CYT and school productions, with her favorite production is CYT’s Seussical. Aside from dancing and acting, Megan likes to play the flute and hang out with friends. She thanks God for the opportunities she has been given and is grateful for her family’s continuous support. Psalm 37:5 Courtney Conway (Miss Dorothy Brown), 17, is a senior at The Grauer School in Encinitas. She is thrilled to be completing her third show with Moonlight Youth Theatre, after performing as Jane Porter in Tarzan last year. Courtney would like to thank the artistic team for making this such a fantastic and educational experience, the Moonlight Board for providing her with incredible opportunities, and her mom, family, friends, and Jonah for their endless love and support. She is extremely excited to be in her first Moonlight show and would like to thank the production team and her parents for allowing her to be part of the amazing cast. Audrey Deubig (Ethel Peas/Mathilde/Office Clerk) is a 13-year-old 8th grader from Escondido. Thoroughly Modern Millie is her 16th theatre production, yet her first on the Moonlight stage. Aquila Ewald (Mrs. Meers) is a 13-year-old 8th grader at Valley Middle School in Carlsbad, performing with the advanced choir and show choir. Favorite roles include Fiona (Shrek VMS), Leslie Burke (Bridge to Terabithia - CYT), Cheshire Cat (Alice in Wonderland - MYT), and Sebastian (The Little Mermaid),The Cat in the Hat (Seussical), and Annie (Annie - Star Theatre Co). When not performing or listening to cast recordings in the car, she studies voice and dance throughout San Diego. Brooke Eyler (Muzzy) is 15-years-old and thrilled have the opportunity to be on stage again, especially with this fantastic cast and crew. Favorite roles include Ti Moune (Once On This Island), Cinderella (Into The Woods), and Tweedle Dum (Alice In Wonderland Jr.). Jonni Fialkosky (Modern/Office Clerk) is an 8th grader at Vista Magnet Middle School. Jonni loves to sing, dance, and act! She has been in Peter Pan Jr. as Fawn, Mermaid 1, and an Indian, a Who in Seussical, an Islander in Once On This Island, and in the Ape Ensemble in Tarzan. Alexandra Hoffman (Modern/Office Clerk/Flannery Assistant) is a 12-year-old 7th grader at Guajome Park Academy. She is thrilled to be back at MYT. A favorite experience was when the MYT Show Choir was the opening act for John Legend’s fundraising benefit concert. Rami Ibrahim (Muzzy’s Boy/Speed Tapper) is thrilled to be in his first show with Moonlight Youth Theatre. He has also performed as Schroeder in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Intrepid) and as Jack in Into the Woods (Ovation Theater). Rami loves to tap and recently won 1st place in the Musical Theater Dance category at the California State Thespian Festival. He would like to thank his wonderful directors for this experience! Hunter Johnson (Muzzy’s Boy/Speed Tapper) is an 17 year old Senior attending the Grauer School in Encinitas. Being cast is a dream and to be surrounded by his talented cast is icing on the cake. Thank you to the Artistic team for this opportunity. Hunter has performed over 20 shows with CYT (Christian Youth Theatre) and Ovation Theatre. Some of his favorite roles have been Caractacus Potts in Chitty, Aladdin in Aladdin, Apostle in Godspell, and Pastor in Tom Sawyer. Kylie Kennard (Alice/Stenog) is thrilled to be a part of her second MYT production. Past credits include Alice (Alice in Wonderland-MYT), Annie (Annie-SFC), Amaryllis (Music Man-CCT), and many productions with CYT. She’s also excited to play Belle in SFC’s upcoming production of Beauty and the Beast, opening in two short weeks! She has performed as one of “Cabaret at the Merc’s 2016 Rising Stars” and as a Cabaret Soloist at the Laurie Beechman Theater in NYC . Kylie would like to thank vocal coach and mentor, Errolyn Healy, as well as the MYT board and artistic team for their support. She’s so thankful for each opportunity God gives her to perform...especially when it includes tapping! Proverbs 3:5-6 Emma King (Modern/Office Clerk) is a sophomore at El Camino High School. She has been acting for two years and has performed as Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird at ECHS. She is an accomplished gymnast and enjoys dance. This is her second performance with Moonlight Youth Theatre, having performed in Alice in Wonderland Jr. She is very excited to be a part of the cast of Thoroughly Modern Millie. She would like to thank Mrs. Strong for her great start in acting. Travis Kramer (Modern/Office Clerk) is thirteen-years-old and an eighth grader at Valley Middle School. This is his 30th theater production and his third with MYT. His favorite role so far has been Gavroche in Vista High School’s production of Les Misérables. He received a M.A.C.Y award for his performance in Les Misérables. He is involved in his school’s show choir. Travis is excited to be performing with MYT. He is looking forward to performing with this talented cast. He has learned so much and would like to thank the production team for this incredible experience.

Benjamin David Little (Muzzy’s Boy/Speakeasy Dancer/Party Guest) is 17-years-old, lives in Carlsbad, and is a senior at Carlsbad High School. He recently had the opportunity to portray Prince Topher in Cinderella with Carlsbad High, as well as Donkey in Shrek with CCT. He has been performing since he was 9-years-old, and is extremely excited to be included in this wonderful production of Thoroughly Modern Millie!
Lauren Littlejohn (Stenog/Modern) is a 13-year-old 7th grader at Santa Fe Christian. She is thrilled to be a part of her 14th theater production and her first show with Moonlight. Some past shows and roles have been Woodstock in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, July in Annie, Cheerleader in High School Musical, African dancer in A Little Princess, and many more. She would like to thank her family for their support, and the artistic team for believing in her. Renny Murphy (Modern/Office Clerk) Born in gold country at the turn of the century, Renny Murphy has always wanted to act. As a child, Ren was in many school plays and was always interested in music. With Cinderella, Little Shop of Horrors, Guys and Dolls, and The Government Inspector under her belt, she looks forward to taking on exciting new roles at the Moonlight Theatre. Ren is a senior at El Camino High School, and plans to study theatre in college. Isabelle Pizzurro (Lucille/Stenog) is an 8th grader at Orange County School of the Arts, Musical Theatre Conservatory. She is excited for her 4th performance on the Moonlight Stage along with Tarzan (Moonlight Youth Theatre) ,The Music Man and The Wizard of Oz (Moonlight Stage Productions). Other San Diego credits include her role as Annie Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Old Globe), Seussical (Moonlight Youth Theatre), Miracle Worker and Les Misérables in Concert (Theatre School@North Coast Rep), and West Side Story, Once On This Island and Pirates of Penzance (J*Company Youth Theatre). She thanks her teachers and family for all their love and support. Rocco Polanco (Trevor Graydon) 15, is delighted to be making his debut with Moonlight Youth Theatre. He appeared once before on the Moonlight Stage as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast with Broadway Kids. Recent favorite credits include Nathan Detroit (Guys and Dolls), Ovation Theatre Co.; Grandpa Potts (Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang), CYT; Nicely-Nicely Johnson (Guys and Dolls), and Sebastian (The Little Mermaid), Star Theatre Co., (For more, visit roccopolanco.com.) Izaiah Rhinehart (Ira Gershwin/Office Clerk) is 15-years-old and homeschooled. He is enjoys playing guitar, piano, singing, mountain biking, surfing, performing with his improv group, and is a black belt in Taekwondo. Izaiah is a resident artist with Grand Façade Theater Productions. Favorite past roles include Aladdin in Aladdin Jr; Chef Louise in The Little Mermaid Jr; ensemble in Beauty and the Beast and, in production now, he plays Jim, in All Shook Up. Wyatt Rhinehart (Muzzy’s Boy/George Gershwin) is 13-years-old and excited to be making his Moonlight Youth Theatre debut. Favorite past roles include Genie in Aladdin Jr. (NYA award) and Scuttle in Little Mermaid Jr. (NYA award). Wyatt was most recently seen as the Prince in Patio Playhouse’s Beauty and the Beast and is in production with CSP’s All Shook Up, where he will play the part of Chad. Wyatt enjoys baseball, piano, singing and acting. He hopes you enjoy the show! August Ruterbusch (Modern/Office Clerk) is 13-years-old and goes to Oak Crest Middle School. August first performed in Moonlight’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr., and was very excited to audition for Thoroughly Modern Millie. He hopes that you will enjoy this performance as much as he enjoyed wearing a suit! Conor Simon (Modern/Office Clerk) is 12-years-old and in the 7th grade at St. Francis. This is his 5th show with the Moonlight, and he really loves being part of this cast. WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST (in alphabetical order) Lauren Turner (Dorothy Parker/Office Clerk) is 17 and attends the Classical Academy. This is her first production with Moonlight Youth Theatre, but 18th overall. Some of her favorite roles have been an Apostle (Godspell), Anne (Anne of Green Gables), Florinda (Into the Woods), and Ursula (The Little Mermaid). She’d like to thank the artistic team, her family and friends, her voice teacher Nicole, and, most importantly, God, for their encouragement and for helping her grow. Janae Vigil (Miss Flannery/Dance Captain) is 17 years old and was recently in Shrek the Musical with Classical Academy High School. Her favorite shows include Willy Wonka and West Side Story both with MYT. She has been performing tap, jazz, hip-hop, and her favorite musical theatre dance since the age of 2. Elliot Weaver (Muzzy’s Boy/Rodney) is thrilled to be a part of this amazing production! Elliot is a freshman at Classical Academy High School. He was most recently in Moonlight’s Peter Pan (John Darling). Past credits include Big Fish (Young Will) and The Music Man (Winthrop). Other credits include Ragtime as Little Boy (San Diego Music Theatre), The Grinch Who Stole Christmas as Danny Who, Boo and Little Who ensemble (Old Globe). Eden Young (Modern/Office Clerk) is 15 years old and a 10th grader at Classical Academy. Thoroughly Modern Millie is her second show with Moonlight Youth. Eden previously played Tweedle Dee in MYT’s Alice in Wonderland. Eden loves to share the stage with her friends and family. When Eden is not acting she loves to practice American Sign Language, cook and shop! Eden would like to thank the Moonlight Youth Theatre’s creative team for giving her this opportunity! Evan Zhu (Bun Foo) is 17-years-old and a senior at Del Norte High School. Some of his favorite roles from past shows include King Maximilian in Cinderella and Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid. Besides musical theater, Evan also enjoys playing football and making people laugh. For over 20 years, MOONLIGHT YOUTH THEATRE has been providing award-winning theatrical training to the North San Diego County Community. MYT offers programs designed for youth from ages 7 to 18 of various skill levels who are interested in all areas of theatrical performance, as well as those who want to remain “behind the scenes”. MYT’s Theatre Internship Program is designed as a “hand’s-on” shadow program. Interns gain the important tools needed to advance in a chosen field – observing, training and collaborating with dedicated professionals at our award-winning theatre organization.
