WELCOME TO THE MOONLIGHT! Dear Friends, We are thrilled to welcome you to the Moonlight Amphitheatre as we produce the San Diego Regional Premiere of The Addams Family, the final show of our 36th Season. The Addams Family is an original story that just happens to have those beloved “creepy and kooky” characters that we all love from the cartoons in The New Yorker, the 1960’s television series, and the 1990’s movies.
Steven Glaudini and Daniel Kays We want to take this opportunity to thank each and every welcome you to the Summer Season
one of you for making every season memorable. It is thrilling to see the Amphitheatre packed with people and word of mouth buzz through our City. We couldn’t do it without your support, not only in ticket sales, but those donations above and beyond help make the Moonlight a thriving theatre that welcomes audiences not only from North County, but from throughout Southern California and beyond. As the days shorten and the nights become cooler, we reflect back on the incredible summer we’ve had. From the roof-raising Sister Act which opened our season, to the highflying Peter Pan which saw star Misty Cotton literally fly over the audience, and our recent production of Titanic: The Musical which garnered some of our highest critical acclaim in our history. It has been an incredible privilege to bring you some of Broadway’s best under the stars. Next summer will be equally as thrilling and entertaining. We look forward to producing Aida, The Little Mermaid, Sunset Boulevard, and In the Heights in 2017. Thank you to the City of Vista, the Moonlight Cultural Foundation’s sponsors and donors, our faithful subscribers and ticket buying patrons. Thank you for making the Moonlight your summer tradition. Sit back, enjoy our final musical of the summer. Get those fingers ready for that famous “Snap Snap.” Have a great evening under the stars! Sincerely,
Steven Glaudini Producing Artistic Director

FROM THE DIRECTOR As someone who has been a fan of the Moonlight Amphitheatre for more than 20 years, I'm thrilled to be making my Moonlight directing debut with The Addams Family. When I think of the Moonlight, I'm reminded not only of the top-notch work that happens on this stage summer after summer, but also of the tradition it has become for families throughout San Diego County. There's not a better way to close out the 2016 season than with a story that celebrates family with its message of acceptance and having each other’s backs, proving that when we work together, we can achieve what we thought impossible. We first met the Addams Family in the late 1930's thanks to American cartoonist Charles Addams. Even at their creepiest and their kookiest, it's a family that generation after generation can relate to and enjoy - and has with both a live action and cartoon television series, a feature film franchise, and (my personal favorite) an awesome pinball machine. And now, tonight, we're thrilled to introduce a whole new generation to this fantastically wacky bunch with a big ole musical comedy underneath the stars. I'm thrilled to be a part of the huge extended Moonlight family, and so happy to introduce yours to the Addams Family. Now, get your fingers ready to snap along and enjoy the show! James Vásquez

WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW: THE ADDAMS FAMILY It took 72 years for The Addams Family to land on Broadway in 2010. Charles Addams’ first incarnation appeared as a single panel cartoon in The New Yorker on August 6, 1938. Addams hadn’t planned on creating a franchise, but the editor of The New Yorker persuaded the artist to bring the family back as a regular feature in the magazine. Addams did so the following year and as the cartoon snowballed in popularity, so did the career and reputation of its creator. Addams’ creation caught the eye of a television executive who convinced the artist that his ghoulish family could be brought “to life” for television audiences. The Addams Family entered the mainstream when it premiered on ABC on September 18, 1964. Ironically, the editor of The New Yorker refused to run the cartoon in his magazine while the series was on the air as he felt his readership was “refined” and didn’t want the print cartoons associated with what could be viewed on TV “by just anybody.” After the editor retired in 1987, the new editor returned the cartoon to the magazine where it ran until Addams’ death in 1998 at the age of 76. The Addams Family promoted nonconformity, individualism, and black humor. These elements were featured in all of Addams’ body of work (possibly partially inspired by the artists’ early career work as a retoucher and censor of grisly crime scene photos for American Detective magazine). Addams’ life-long devotion to the darker side of life also played a part in his personal life: he married his third wife in a pet cemetery. They named their New York estate “The Swamp,” and when Addams passed away, his remains were buried there in their pet cemetery. Our love affair with The Addams Family has never waned. They feed our need to see the world in a non-linear fashion that’s accepting and non-threatening. Couldn’t the world use a little more of that?
"Vibrationless, noiseless, and a great time and back saver. No well-appointed home should be without it." The first Addams Family cartoon from The New Yorker, August 6, 1938.

Dear Friends, Thanks to donor commitment, we were able to end fiscal year 2015 2% above revenue goal and $72,000 below our original budget. Thank you! The combination of continued generosity, and our internal prudence and resourcefulness, Toria Watson Jane Mitchell enabled us to support educational and community arts outreach programs as well as provide Moonlight Stage Productions much needed additional funds to support year-round programming at Moonlight Amphitheatre. Theatre arts rely on two sources of income: funds raised from ticket sales and philanthropic contributions from private donors. With your additional contribution we help our community thrive, and we do that by presenting the highest quality live theatre, providing partnership opportunities, and preparing our youth with artistically innovative education programs. These components are important economic drivers to our community and region. The Moonlight Cultural Foundation takes great pride in serving the City of Vista and Moonlight Stage Productions and Moonlight Presents. We support the Moonlight Amphitheatre as a community gathering place where people can come together to celebrate, heal, escape through Broadway caliber productions and cultural arts programming. As always, it is your ultimate participation in the arts that makes Moonlight Stage Productions one of Southern California’s most professional and mature performing arts institutions and the jewel of San Diego North County. Gratefully, Toria Watson CEO, Moonlight Cultural Foundation

Thoroughly Modern Millie OCTOBER 14-22, 2016 | MOONLIGHT AMPHITHEATRE
The winner of six TONY Awards including Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie takes you back to the height of the Jazz Age in New York City, when “moderns” including a flapper named Millie Dillmount were bobbing their hair, raising their hemlines, entering the workforce, and rewriting the rules of love. Taking place in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. It’s a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behaviour were changing forever. Based on the popular movie, the stage version of Thoroughly Modern Millie includes a full score of new songs and bright dance numbers. From explosive tap numbers to a Fred and Ginger routine on a window ledge, frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfect evening of madcap merriment.
