TARZAN PROGRAM NOTES: MOONLIGHT YOUTH THEATRE

Edgar Rice Burroughs, an American writer of popular science fiction, western adventures and historical romances, introduced Tarzan to the world in the October 1912 issue of All Story Magazine; and the leading character he created was an instant sensation....”a man who could spring 20 feet across space at the dizzy height of the forest top and grab with unerring precision the limb of a tree waving wildly in the path of a tornado.” An exotic inhabitant of the jungle, Tarzan still has a twentieth century journey of self -discovery: “Who am I?” “Where do I belong?” Tarzan has been featured in nearly 50 motion pictures since 1912 in addition to comic books, novels, radio and television.

Disney’s musical stage version of TARZAN opened on Broadway in May 2006, directed and designed by Bob Crowley, with a book by Henry David Hwang and music composed by Phil Collins. Based on Disney’s animated film of 1999, the show adds new material and incorporates elements from the original TARZAN OF THE APES by Burroughs. It ran for nearly 500 performances on Broadway.

THE STORY:

TARZAN is set in 1888. A wealthy young English couple, Lord and Lady Greystoke, barely survive a shipwreck off the coast of West Africa. Their newborn son Tarzan is orphaned by a tragedy and is adopted by an ape tribe, led by the silverback gorilla, Kerchak. Kerchak’s mate Kala had lost her baby to a leopard; in her search for her own baby, she finds the human boy, names him Tarzan, and dedicates herself to being his mother.

As a boy, Tarzan cannot keep up with the gorilla tribe in strength and agility. Kerchak views Tarzan as a threat to his gorilla family; so Kala decides to raise Tarzan away from the tribe. Tarzan is befriended by Terk, a young female gorilla who teaches him insight to the tribe, and shares her playful ambitions. Tarzan grows strong and tall, but still feels like an outsider to his ape family, searching for his identity.

When Tarzan meets British botanist Jane Porter and her father Professor Porter, who are studying the habits of gorillas in the untamed jungle, Tarzan’s world expands and explodes as he begins to see that he can accept his own human roots, his gorilla upbringing, and exist as a man of these two worlds. While Jane and Professor Porter see Tarzan as a wild man of great heart and abilities, Clayton (their expedition guide) sees the apes and Tarzan as a source of prize money and fame; the darker side of the civilized world. Tarzan eventually has to fight for what is precious to him in both of his human and ape worlds.

It was a privilege to be invited by Moonlight Youth Theatre to direct this new pop-rock musical with its compelling and unique story-telling. Moonlight Youth Theatre has a hard-working board of volunteers who are dedicated to giving young people and their families a theatre experience which will teach, inspire, and cultivate a new generation of outstanding musical theatre performers and audiences. I salute this mission and am proud to work with the accomplished musical director/conductor Lyndon Pugeda and with the dazzling choreographer Kyle Hawk, both of whom were seen this summer as part of Moonlight Stage Productions’ family of artists.

Add to that the very talented cast of 48 young performers you are about to see on the Moonlight Amphitheatre stage: get ready for some theatrical magic!

Disney’s TARZAN the Musical is filled with uplifting Phil Collins music, energized choreographic sequences, and with a story which has human comedy and tragedy at its heart. Tarzan’s journey as a child and as a young man has at its center his search for family; to find the place where he belongs and can be accepted for who he is. The young Tarzan is innocent, full of curiosity and the spirit of exploration, but he is labeled as odd, peculiar or dangerous by his gorilla tribe: the outcast. The older Tarzan is defined by his curiosity and drive to invent, learn and discover. That same spirited joy of discovery is shared by the botanist/explorer Jane; and she becomes the key to Tarzan’s identity. As we worked with the cast on the characters within the ape world and the human world, we found Jane’s father Professor Porter to be an understanding modern thinker who could understand Jane’s fascination with the jungle and with the wild man Tarzan; he is her anchor. Kerchak, the gorilla father had his leadership role defined for him through his history; being a good parent often means making difficult and painful decisions in order to insure the safety of his family. He also is a father who thinks and can change. Who is the villain in the story?

Expedition leader Clayton shares the 1888 Colonial attitude towards the apes: conquer and pillage; he is an opportunist and his values become clear to Tarzan and to Professor Porter and Jane. The values of Kala, Tarzan’s gorilla mother, are pure, passionate and courageous; her motherhood is filled with selfless courage and heart. As Tarzan searches for his identity, we realize that sometimes our family is not the one we’re born into, but rather the family that takes us in, validates, values, heals and teaches us.

With aerial flying, a shipwreck, exotic jungle animals, explorers, swashbuckling rescues, romance, and a family of funny and heart-touching gorillas, what an exciting musical for the entire family! Enjoy the sweeping saga of Disney’s TARZAN THE MUSICAL!!

CREATIVE TEAM

KATHY BROMBACHER (Director) Founder/ Producing Artistic Director Emeritus of Moonlight Stage Productions: 32 years of premieres of new work, revivals of classics and the achievement of being part of the re-building of the AVO Playhouse and the Moonlight Amphitheatre venues. Kathy holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Denver and BA in Theatre from the University of Redlands. She is proud to have received a theatrical “Trailblazer Award” from the San Diego Critics’ Circle, a Shiley Lifetime Achievement Patte Award , and the Moonlight Cultural Foundation’s Award of Excellence. Favorite directing projects include: “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, “The Diary of Anne Frank”, “Little Women, the Musical”, “Ragtime, the Musical”, “Foxfire,” “Noises Off”, “Into the Woods” and “Lost in Yonkers”. Kathy began the City of Vista’s Youth Theatre program in 1985, has taught high school and college theatre, and has always advocated for a strong educational youth theatre presence at Moonlight and in the community. Special thanks to Mike Bradford for his artistic guidance, to Lyndon Pugeda and Kyle Hawk for their artistic collaboration and to the cast, designers and stage managers for their passionate storytelling.

LYNDON PUGEDA (Musical Director/Conductor) is excited to return to MYT after serving as musical director for Moonlight Stage Productions’ All Shook Up earlier this year! His work on last year’s hit show Spamalot garnered him a Craig Noel Award nomination for Outstanding Musical Direction. He was also recently recognized by National Youth Arts and won an award for his work on Ghost with Carlsbad High School. Credits include: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Moonlight Youth Theatre); Nunsense (Moonlight Stage Productions); Forever Plaid: Plaid Tidings (New Village Arts); 9 to 5, The Addams Family, The Wedding Singer (Rancho Buena Vista Drama); The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Carlsbad High School Drama). Associate Conductor: Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (The Old Globe). Lyndon earned a BA Degree in Music: Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts from the University of California, San Diego. He would like to dedicate this show to his family who are in his heart always.

KYLE HAWK (Choreographer) is thrilled to be a part of Tarzan at the Moonlight Amphitheatre!

Since being back in San Diego he has had the privilege of choreographing with many great youth theaters including CYT, NCSA, SDA and CCHS. Past regional performing credits include Catch Me if You Can, Mary Poppins, Spamalot, Young Frankenstein, Crazy for You (Billy), Bye Bye Birdie (Mr. Johnson) and Cats (Tumblebrutus). Kyle has also followed his love for dance all over the US performing with the Joffrey Ballet, Inaside Dance Chicago, Giordanos Jazz Dance and Joel Hall Dancers. Kyle would like to thank Nick and his family for their unconditional love and support, Kathy and Lyndon for being such an inspiration and for always demonstrating true professionalism and God for with him ANYTHING is possible!

JENNIFER EDWARDS (Lighting Designer) is so honored to be working with Moonlight Youth Theatre on this fantastic production of Tarzan. Recent lighting designs include: El Grande CIRCUS de Coca Cola (Skylight Theatre), Broomstick (Fountain Theatre), Cabaret (Welk Theatre), Broadway and Beyond (Alex Theatre), Step Up (Pasadena Playhouse), Celtic Fusion (Eden Court Theatre), Window Panes (California Center for the Arts), West Side Story (Poway Center for the Arts), Into the Woods (S.D. Starlight Bowl) The Full Monty (Birch North Park Theatre) and many others. Jennifer is also a proud AEA Stage Manager since 1994. Thank you Mike and Kathy for this opportunity. JIM ZADAI (Sound Designer) is happy to be working with Moonlight Youth Theatre once again. He has been busy sound designing and running sound for Moonlight Stage Productions during the past 4 years. Recent sound designs include All Shook Up and The Music Man. He has also worked sound at The Old Globe Theatre (Othello, The Two Gentlemen of Verona) and the La Jolla Playhouse (Side Show, The Hunchback of Notre Dame).

HELEN JAEGER (Costume Designer) has had a passion for costume design since grade school, growing up here in north county, she started costuming for local high school productions when she was just a high school student herself. After studying fashion and costume design and construction at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, she has spent the past 10 years working as a designer, stylist, wardrobe coordinator, and design teacher. Helen is thrilled to be costuming her second production for MYT. She currently lives in Oceanside with her husband, beautiful daughter, and another one on the way!

ANTHONY CARRASCO (Stage Manager) Is honored to return to Moonlight Youth Theatre! Recent Stage Management Credits include MYT: Once On This Island, Seussical the Musical, Into The Woods, Aladdin Jr. MSP: Shrek the Musical, Sondhiem On Sondheim, My Fair Lady, and Blithe Spirit. He thanks Sharon for her help on this production and is grateful to be working with Kathy, Lyndon, Kyle and Mike.

SHARON STRICH (Assistant Stage Manager) received her B.A.in Stage Management from George Washington University. She is very excited to be a part of her first Moonlight Youth Theatre production.

Jolie Asuncion (Ape Ensemble) is thrilled to make her MYT debut! She has had two years of vocal training and presentation with Valley Middle School Choir. Previous shows include Happily Never After, Once on This Island and Peter Pan. Jolie is a freshman at Carlsbad High School where she’s involved with their intermediate/pre advanced theatre department. Jolie hopes she can continue on in the theatre world, and she certainly hopes to cross paths with this amazing group again.

Hannah Bashara (Ape Ensemble) is a senior at Fallbrook High School. She is a member of her school’s Advanced Mixed Choir and the President of their Drama Club. Previous shows include Aladdin, Romeo and Juliet, and was Paulette in Legally Blonde. Hannah would like to thank her family for their support and Moonlight Youth for making the show possible.

Jake Bradford (Kerchak) is 16 and a Junior at Rancho Buena Vista High School. Regional credit: West Side Story (Baby John, Arab) with Lamb’s Players Theatre. Josh Bradford (Young Tarzan) is a 12 year old 7th grader at Roosevelt Middle School and he is excited to return to the Moonlight stage in Disney’s Tarzan. Regional credits include The Music Man (Youth Ensemble), The Who’s Tommy (Young Tommy) and The Wizard of Oz (The Mayor of Munchkin City/Flying Monkey) with Moonlight Stage Productions, Lord of the Flies (Perceval) with New Village Arts and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Lady Bug Who) with Old Globe Theatre. He has performed in a number of MYT productions and is a regional company member of Theatre of Peace’s Bullying Awareness Acting Troupe, performing school assemblies all over San Diego County. Josh is excited to once again be performing on stage with his brother Jake (Kerchak). He hopes you enjoy the show.

Sarah Broberg (Ape Core Dancer) is the ex-homeschooled youngest of five children who has seven cats and hates popsicle sticks. She started theater when she was 8; she is now 18 and terribly boring and grown-up. Her favorite role to date was the Cat in the Hat (Seussical), and her greatest achievement was having her original play, Flipside, produced at the Broadway Theater in June. Writing and drawing are basically her life. “Huge thank-you’s to Kyle, Kathy, and Lyndon!”

Lily Brown (Ape Core Dancer) is thrilled to be back at Moonlight Amphitheatre as a member of this talented cast of Tarzan. Lily is age 12 and studies piano, jazz dance and voice. Previous performances include Moonlight Youth Theatre’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Kids Ensemble), STAR Theatre’s Annie Jr. (Orphan) Carlsbad Community Theatre’s The Music Man (Kids Ensemble). Lily loves listening to music, time with friends, computers, watching old movies and reruns of I Love Lucy.

Ruth Burgess (Snipes, Ape Dance Core) is a senior at Tri-City. Her recent roles include Dogberry (Much Ado About Nothing, MiraCosta), Fairy Godmother (Cinderella, NCSA), and Annie Sullivan (Miracle

She is so excited to join Moonlight Youth Theatre again after playing Baker’s Wife in their production of Into the Woods, and feels extremely blessed to work with such an amazing cast and artistic team! She thanks all who have supported her through the years and hope you enjoy the show!

Faith Calderon-Overvold (Ape Ensemble) is 9 years old and attends Palmquist Elementary. Tarzan will be Faith’s first production at the Moonlight Amphitheatre and her third performance with MYT. Roles have included a storyteller in MYT’s Once On This Island, a Who in Seussical, and she is participating in the MYT Holiday Show Choir. Faith continues to exhibit great enthusiasm in performing arts and enjoys being a little performer on and away from stage. She is very excited to have her first role on the “big stage” and to continue performing with the wonderful Moonlight Youth Theatre. Faith thanks her family and friends for continuing to support her on this journey!

Sittichai Chaiyahat (Clayton/Father) is 16 years old and a junior in high school. He is beyond excited to make his debut with Moonlight Youth Theatre. Recent credits include: The Baker (Into the Woods) NCSA, Student (Les Miserables) Star Rep, Richie (13: The Musical) Staged! He would like to thank Kathy and the artistic team as well as his vocal coach, Debbie Nicastro, for their tremendous guidance. Also, thank you to his family for their love and support. Enjoy the show!

Abigail Chenoweth (Ape Ensemble) This is Abigail’s second play with MYT and she feels so lucky to be in this group! She loves to sing, dance and act and getting to be in plays is awesome! Abigail thanks her Mom and Dad for getting her to all of her rehearsals and to all her friends and family for coming to see her perform!

Courtney Conway (Jane Porter), 16, is currently a junior at The Grauer School in Encinitas. Tarzan was the first show Courtney ever saw on Broadway when she was 6, and is ecstatic to be a part of the show ten years later. Courtney would like to thank the amazing artistic team for giving her this incredible opportunity. Her past shows include Just So, Cinderella, Tom Sawyer, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, and Godspell.

Amelia Drees (Ape Ensemble) is thrilled to be performing in her first production with Moonlight Youth Theatre. She is 10, in 5th grade and enjoys art, singing, dancing and, of course, musical theater!

She has appeared in several stage productions throughout San Diego including Les Miserables (Little Cossette), Aladdin, Jr. (Carpet), The Little Mermaid, Jr. (Sea Creature and Petite Chef), Annie, Jr. (Annie) and Seussical, Jr. (Featured dancer and a Who). Amelia would like to thank her friends and family for their love and support.

Jonah Duhe (Tarzan) is beyond excited to make his début at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. Jonah is a freshman at Mira Costa College pursing a degree in theater. Recent credits include; Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, Jonny Warner in Zombie Prom. He would like to thank his cast and crew, as well as Leigh Anne Sutherlin, David Schulz, Pablo Infante, Matt Gherna, and his Mom and sister for the training, love and support.

Brooke Eyler (Ape Core Dancer) is 14 years old and is excited and honored to be part of Tarzan!

Brooke’s favorite roles have included Ti Moune (Once on This Island) and Cinderella (Into The Woods Jr.).

She’d like to thank Kathy Brombacher, Kyle Hawk, Lyndon Pugeda, the production team, the cast, and crew for this amazing experience. She hopes you go bananas for the show!

(Ps 73:26) Robynne French (Mother, Ape Core Dancer), a sophomore at Calvary Murrieta Christian Academy, is very excited to be doing her first show with Moonlight Youth Theater. Among her favorite roles were Patrice in 13 the Musical, Sally in You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, and JoJo in Seussical the Musical for which she won an ITL award. Before catching the theater bug, Robynne was a gospel singer with M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records. She is grateful to her family for supporting her dreams! Phil. 4:13 Jack Gemmell (Ape Ensemble/Expedition Crew) is a 10 year old 5th grader at Alamosa Park Elementary. He’s thrilled to be back on the Moonlight Stage in Tarzan after appearing in The Music Man earlier this summer. Other credits include: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Charlie Bucket) and Seussical (Who/Cadet). Besides musical theater, Jack enjoys reading, swimming, playing basketball, and LEGOS! Jack thanks his family for their support, Kathy, Lyndon, Kyle, and the awesome cast and crew of this wonderful production.

Cailee Hayman (Ape Ensemble) is an 8 year old 3rd grader at Vista Christian. This is her second production with MYT. Cailee is very excited to be a part of Tarzan after her start with MYT last year in the Holiday Show Choir. She loves performing on stage and is also a Brownie (Troop 1136), a Brown Belt in Tae Kwon Do, and a princess for the Little Miss Pride of Vista sponsored through the Lion’s Club. Cailee would like to thank God, her family and friends for all of their support and blessings!

Brooke Henderson (Young Terk/Ape Core Dancer) is excited to be a part of Moonlight, Youth Theatre.

She is an 8th grader at the Language Academy, a Girl Scout, a member of “LINKS” to STEM, and JT on tour choir, and is fluent in French, plays All Star softball and soccer, and dances. Her first love is musical theatre. Some credits include, Annie and The Music Man (Moonlight Stage Productions), The Grinch that Stole Christmas (Old Globe) 2012-2015. Little Inez in Hairspray, many shows at SDJT and supporting roles in several independent films.

Olivia Hodson (Terk) is a 16 year old sophomore from Carlsbad. Tarzan is her first show with Moonlight Youth Theatre and she is thrilled to be performing on the Moonlight stage with this exceptional cast. Recent theatre credits include Peter in Peter Pan (Star Theatre ). Cinderella in Into the Woods (CYC) and Candy in Zombie Prom (Star Theatre). Other memorable roles include Kim McAfee in Bye Bye Birdie (NCSARTS) Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland (CYT) and Gingy in Shrek the Musical (NCSARTS). Olivia would like to thank this fabulous artistic team Kathy, Lyndon, and the one and only Kyle Hawk for giving her the role of Terk as well as her family and friends for their love and support. WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST (in alphabetical order) Samuel Johnson (Porter) is a 17 year old high school graduate of San Marcos High School. He discovered his passion of acting when he was in the 3rd grade. Up until now, Some of Samuel’s favorite roles include Chip Tolentino (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and Audrey 2 (Little Shop of Horrors). Samuel would like to thank his parents, sister, and church for constant support and for always encouraging him to follow his dreams.

Travis Kramer (Ape Ensemble/Expeditionary Crew) is twelve years old and a seventh grader at Valley Middle School. He is a member of his school’s show choir and loves acting. This is his eighth theater production. His favorite roles include Thing 2 in Seussical and Gavroche in Vista High School’s production of Les Miserable. He received a M.A.C.Y award for his performance in Les Miserable. Travis is appreciative for the opportunity to perform with Moonlight Youth Theatre. He’s learned so much and thanks the production team for this incredible experience.

Charlotte Larson (Ape Ensemble) is a fourth grader at Ivey Ranch Elementary. Previously, she performed in Aladdin as a Townsperson, as well as a lead in her school production of It’s a Jungle Out There. Charlotte is also an avid reader, plays the violin, and loves to ride horses. Charlotte would like to thank Aunt Sammy for inspiring her, and her Dad and Mom for encouraging her to never give up on her dreams.

Chloe Lu (Ape Ensemble) Chloe is thrilled to be part of this amazing cast performing in her first Moonlight Youth Theatre Group production! This busy 10 year old is a 5th grader at Aviara Oaks Elementary. She has performed with Star Theatre’s Beauty & the Beast, Willy Wonka, Honk and Seussical. You can also find Chloe playing piano, Minecraft, practicing karate and reading. Chloe is thankful and “bananas” for the support of her family and friends!

Wendy Maddox (Ape Ensemble) is thrilled to “go ape” in her Moonlight Youth Theatre debut with Tarzan! She has performed locally in Twelfth Night, Seussical, The 13 Colonies, Annie and Honk. Other favorites include Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Cinderella. When Wendy isn’t singing and tap dancing she enjoys playing piano, writing scripts and water polo. She sends thanks to her supportive family and friends and reminds them “You’ll be here in my heart always”.

Danielle Martin (Ape Ensemble) is in 6th grade at Aviara Oaks Middle School. She has been engaged in theatre for the past three years with roles in Aladdin, Frozen, James and the Giant Peach, The Little Prince and in various Shakespeare summer youth theatre productions. She also has three years of experience in dance with Carlsbad Dance Center and CPAA. She loves performing and dance. This is her first major stage production and she is very excited for her role in Tarzan.

Katelyn Minney (Ape Ensemble) is thrilled to debut on the Moonlight stage. She is a sophomore at Rancho Buena Vista High School and has been involved in drama for three years. Her previous show was Alice in Wonderland Jr. She is enthusiastic when it comes to her love for theatre. She would like to thank her family and Mr. Scott for supporting her, but above all she would like to thank God for making her dream possible.

Karen Nolte (Ape Ensemble/Expeditionary Crew) is 18 years old and doesn’t understand why people eat cornbread. It’s seriously like trying to eat a couch. Why do people do this to themselves? Why do humans willingly eat cornbread? Karen’s been doing musical theatre for eleven years but is more often found doodling in her sketchbook or trying to understand how cooking works. She plans on going to culinary school within the next year! But seriously, people need to stop eating cornbread. It’s weird.

Ezra Oshima (Ape Ensemble) is 11 and in 5th grade at Casita Center. Ezra’s first big production was Honk! with the Star Theatre. He was a Who in the Moonlight Youth Theatre’s production of Seussical and JoJo in Seussical with the Star Theatre. He enjoyed performing in KidShine with North Coast Church in their last three productions. Ezra has been playing piano for six years. When not performing, he enjoys playing with his friends, spending time with family, drawing and reading.

Emily O’Sullivan (Ape Core Dancer) is 17 years old and attends high school at La Costa Canyon. She has enjoyed being in musical theater for many years and some of her favorite parts include March Hare from Alice in Wonderland, and Narrator in Beauty and the Beast. She would like to thank her family and friends for always supporting her, and Moonlight Youth for giving her this amazing experience. She hopes you enjoy the show.

Isabelle Pizzurro (Ape Core Dancer) is a seventh grader at San Elijo Middle School, who is passionate about singing, dancing and studying history. Earlier this summer, she was in the Moonlight’s Music Man, and previously in Wizard of Oz. Recent San Diego credits include her role as Annie Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Old Globe), Seussical (Moonlight Youth Theatre), Miracle Worker and Les Miserables in Concert (Theater School@North Coast Rep), and West Side Story and Pirates of Penzance (J*Company Youth Theatre). She thanks her teachers and family for always supporting her.

Jack Radunsky (Ape Ensemble) is nine and is very excited and feels fortunate to be working with Moonlight Youth Theatre. Debuting as Mr. Mistofolees in CATS with the Visual and Performing Arts at Dehesa Charter, he also performed in Winter Ball and Camp Yellow Sub. In addition to numerous performances and recitals with his guitar, other passions include parkour, drawing and surfing. Jack is very thankful to have music lessons and a singing family.

Madeline Radunsky (Ape Ensemble) has always been passionate about performing and is thrilled to be involved in Tarzan with Moonlight Youth Theatre. Beginning as an Evil Stepsister at age 7 in Cinderella with Balboa Jr. Theatre’s Young Actor’s Class, she has since enjoyed being featured as Demeter in CATS with Dehesa Charter and Visual and Performing Arts. Through VAPA, she performed in Winter Ball and was Judith, a lead in Camp Yellow Submarine, an original play by Tokeli Baker.

Madeline also enjoys hip hop, comic book-making, martial arts and expanding her Life Club website to help the planet.

Brady Reed (Ape Ensemble) Tarzan is Brady’s first show on the Moonlight Stage, but he got his start with Moonlight Youth Theatre in the 2014 Holiday Choir. Brady is currently attending the 3rd grade at Lake Elementary and also enjoying his third year with Cub Scouts. He would also like to throw out a big thank you to his Mom, Dad, and little sister Violet for all of their love and support.

Emma Rivera (Ape Ensemble) is thrilled to be back on the Moonlight stage. She is 10 year old 5th grader at Empresa Elementary. Her time is spent working hard on stage and playing musical instruments - the

clarinet, the ukulele, and guitar. Emma’s top five performances include: Seussical, Les Misérables (AVO); Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Little Mermaid (Moonlight Youth Theatre); and Once Upon A Mattress (Carlsbad Village Theater). Emma appreciates the MYT Board Members for all their hard work and for supporting each actor.

Delaney Ryan (Kala) is 17 years old and attends San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas. She loves performing and is thrilled to make her debut on the Moonlight stage! Past credits include: Mrs. Banks Mary Poppins, Ursula The Little Mermaid, Lady Macbeth Macbeth, and more. She is also president of her school’s thespian troupe, and an active member of CYT improv. She thanks her friends, and all of the families she’s acquired over time for their incessant love and light. You’ll be in her heart, always.

Lexy Sakrekoff (Ape Core Dancer) is thrilled to return to the Moonlight Stage with this amazing Moonlight Youth Theatre cast! She was previously on the Moonlight stage in the role of a Munchkin Teacher in Moonlight Stage Production’s Wizard of Oz. Lexy made her debut last year at the Old Globe Theatre in Dr. Seuss’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Lexy has been singing/dancing since age 2, and performing on stage since age 4.

Off-stage, Lexy excels in sports with her two older brothers, William and Kevin.

Jasmine Torres (Ape Ensemble) is 17 years old and is a senior at El Camino High School. She has been in six shows including The Producers, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Little Shop of Horrors.

She is very excited to perform for her first time at the Moonlight Amphitheatre and would like to thank her friends and family as well as her wonderful cast and directors for making it a great experience.

Kayla VanderStoel (Ape Ensemble) is a junior at Classical Academy High School and is excited to be a part of Tarzan the Musical. Her favorite roles include Gertrude in Seussical Jr., Sister Robert Anne in Nunsense, Florinda in Into the Woods, and Ensemble in Les Misérables. She would like to thank her parents for their support, the creative team at Moonlight Youth Theatre for this wonderful opportunity, and God, who gave her the ability and passion to perform.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST (in alphabetical order) Brooke Venzor (Ape Core Dancer) is a fourth grader at Mission Meadows Elementary. Brooke has been in competitive dance and has been broadening her artistic ability to incorporate theatre and classical piano. Grace Venzor (Ape Core Dancer) is a freshman at Mission Vista High School. Her passion is dance having been a competitive dancer for the last five years. Grace was part of the Moonlight Youth Theatre production in Seussical the Musical as the lead dancer, and is now honored to be part of the Tarzan Production.

Janae Vigil (Ape Core Dancer) is 16 and was recently see in Oklahoma with Classical Academy High School. Her favorite shows with MYT include Willy Wonka and West Side Story. She has been performing tap, jazz, hip-hop and her favorite, musical theatre since the age of 2. Janae would like to give a big thank you to Kathy, Kyle and Lyndon for this wonderful opportunity and a special thanks to her family and friends for their support.

Amara Young (Ape Core Dancer) is thrilled to play on the Moonlight stage with such a talented cast! She has performed in Carmen at the San Diego Opera/Civic Theatre, The King and I at the Welk Theatre and some of her favorite roles include: Ursula in The Little Mermaid, Jr. and Genie in Aladdin.
