WELCOME TO THE 38TH SEASON! Dear Friends, It is our pleasure to welcome you to another summer of Broadway’s Best Under the Stars at the Moonlight Amphitheatre! With our first show of the summer, the San Diego Regional Premiere of Mamma Mia!, we are embarking on our 38th season that includes Disney’s Newsies, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Chicago. The summer is highlighted by a concert performance with full orchestra - of the groundbreaking musical 1776 on July 7. Some of your favorite Moonlight artists will be featured. We encourage you to purchase tickets to this one-night-only event that supports the Moonlight Steven Glaudini and Cultural Foundation. Colleen Kollar Smith Speaking of the Foundation, our non-profit fundraising partner held its annual gala, the Razzle Dazzle of the Moonlight, on our stage last month. The Moonlight and the City of Vista are so appreciative of the donors, sponsors, and attendees who turned out to raise funds in support of the Foundation, which in turn benefit the very productions you are experiencing now. You can join the Foundation’s family of supporters by becoming a sponsor or donor to help sustain the Moonlight’s programs into the future. Please see page 21 for information. One of the themes of the gala was creating community at the Moonlight. This theme is important to us since one of the values cultural institutions share in is the responsibility of providing a place where the community can gather. The Moonlight is such a place. Since our founding by Kathy Brombacher 38 years ago, we have welcomed more than 1.3-million visitors through our gates. Since we have begun offering cultural experiences year-round, more people are discovering the Moonlight as a special gathering place with our variety of programming options. The community groups and rental events who utilize this beautiful venue throughout the year further enhance our goal of creating community. We hope you will find that the Moonlight is an experience you will want to make part of your life and share with others. We strive to create magic on this hillside by offering you an escape from daily distractions. Theatre is about magic and imagination. As legendary director Hal Prince has said, “theatre is both limited and unlimited because the space is the space and what you can do with people’s imagination is really endless.” We hope your summer nights at the Moonlight will be filled with endless joy. Sincerely,

Steven Glaudini Producing Artistic Director

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR Good evening Moonlight patrons! I have one question for you: are you read to PARTY? We certainly hope so because there is no better party in town than the one you are about to experience in Mamma Mia! This show, featuring the songs of the European super band ABBA, has captivated audiences all over the world from its initial 1999 production in London, to 5,773 performances over fourteen years on Broadway, to the hit film starring Meryl Streep in 2008, and now Vista where it is making its regional premiere. It was the brainchild of producer Judy Craymer who approached ABBA songwriters BjÜrn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson with the idea of turning their music into a musical. They were skeptical. The first time I went to see the show, I must admit, so was I! Although I grew up with ABBA music and loved it, I just wasn’t sure how it would fit into a musical. But then, it got me. The lighthearted yet clever and charming story, the infectious music and of course the high energy dancing swept me away and I was on my feet singing and clapping at the end. Simply put, it was a joyous night out at the theatre. The cast you are about to see have been an absolute amazement and pleasure. We have had a ball putting this show together, whether sweating through the dance numbers, finding the warmth and character in the scenes or laughing and smiling through every rehearsal. So have a good time tonight, and if in the finale you feel the urge, by all means get up on your feet and throw your hands in the air! John Vaughan Director and Choreographer
