Our 39th summer season of Moonlight Stage Productions opens in June with one of our most requested shows, Mel Brooks’ The Producers. While we are celebrated for our summer season of Broadway musicals, we offer entertainment year-round with Moonlight Presents. Mark your calendar for May 4th when we present “May the Fourth Be With You” Celebration with the showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens featuring a pre-movie concert by The Millennial Falcons.

You will also delight in our other film nights, including The Goonies, Back to the Future, and Elf. The year is also highlighted with special events, including the Moonlight Cultural Foundation’s Signature Gala Paris by Night, and the one-nightonly concert version of Into the Woods. The award-winning Moonlight Youth Theatre offers the new musical version of the classic Disney movie Freaky Friday in October. JUNE 12 – 29 Gates: 6:30 pm | Show: 8 pm The Producers once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, and in-your-face humor. The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show becomes a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime for Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money, and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!” Recommended for mature audiences only.

JULY 17 – AUGUST 3 Gates: 6:30 pm | Show: 8 pm Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Awardwinning Matilda The Musical is a captivating spectacle that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination, and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull (played

by Moonlight favorite Randall Hickman), dislikes children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace! Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda is a joyous girl power romp.

Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

AUGUST 14 – 31 Gates: 6:30 pm | Show: 8 pm Something’s coming, something good, in this great American musical that changed Broadway forever. On the gritty streets of 1950s New York City, two rival gangs strut their stuff and when a Jet falls for a Shark, the stage is set for a street rumble. This classic re-telling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a love affair for the ages as the story of these star-crossed lovers’ struggle to survive in a world of prejudice remains as relevant and as powerful as ever.

Leonard Bernstein’s legendary score is infused with pulsating jazz and Latin rhythms, while Stephen Sondheim’s soaring lyrics add punch and dramatic flair. Jerome Robbins’ fiery and Tony Awardwinning choreography is re-created in Moonlight’s revival that is sure to stay with you long after the last rumble.

SEPTEMBER 11 – 28 Gates: 6 pm | Show: 7:30 pm Broadway World proclaims that Victor/Victoria “has all the panache and sizzle of Chicago, the colorful character line up of Guys and Dolls, and the farcical comedy of Noises Off.” Journey to the glitzy and glamorous world of Paris in the 1930s where down on her luck nightclub singer Victoria is in search of a job. When she meets the flamboyant and kind-hearted Toddy, her luck changes when the two hatch a plan to transform Victoria into a renowned female impersonator. The twist is that she is a woman, claiming to be a man, claiming to be a woman! Hilarity and confusion soon follow when “Victor” becomes an overnight sensation and attracts the attention of a macho Chicago gangster much to the dismay of his ditsy girlfriend. Based on Blake Edwards’ hit 1982 film, this truly classic musical features an electrifying musical score and dazzling production numbers set against the backdrop of the original Broadway sets and costumes. The band accurately re-creates the sights, sounds, and concert experience of a Tom Petty concert. You will hear all of the classics that you know and love: American Girl, Break Down, Free Falling, Mary Jane’s Last Dance, and more.

Hop in your DeLorean, pump the gas to 88 miles per hour, and watch high school student Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, as he accidentally travels thirty years into the past in a time machine invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd. Come early to enjoy 80s themed pre-movie activities for the family!

JOHN WAITE SATURDAY, JULY 6 Gates: 6 pm Show: 7:30 pm Tickets: $22 - $57 70s and 80s rock icon John Waite and his band will perform his catalogue of hits from his 40-year career as a solo artist and his time as lead singer of the bands The Babys and Bad English. His catalogue of hits includes the #1 worldwide hit Missing You, The Babys’ Isn’t It Time, and Bad English’s When I See You Smile, which rank amongst some of his biggest international hits and are still heard on radio today. Others songs include Tears, Change, These Times Are Hard for Lovers, Every Step Of The Way, and If Anybody Had A Heart. John Waite’s talent for power ballads and driving arena rock occasionally touched on new wave-styled power pop making him a fixture of the rock and roll scene. John Waite continues to forge his own singularly personal path of celebrating the present while engaged by the promise of the future. The story is far from over for the Lancaster, England-born rock star/ balladeer/storyteller who was inspired onto his musical path by blues, soul and country along with a deep connection to the Celtic folk music of his homeland.

THE ULTIMATE TRIBUTE TO MORRISSEY AND THE SMITHS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26 Gates: 6 pm | Show: 7:30 pm | Tickets: $15 - $40 Los Angeles-based Sweet and Tender Hooligans, hailed as the ultimate tribute to Morrissey and The Smiths, have delivered for more than two decades a finely crafted show that pays homage to the legendary singer and British indie band. Performing to sold-out crowds throughout the US, Mexico, and the UK, front man Jose Maldonado channels Morrissey so convincingly that Moz himself has even jokingly taken the stage with the opening line, “Hello, we are the Sweet and Tender Hooligans and I’m Jose.” From their era-perfect style to Maldonado’s Morrissey-inspired coif, the band never fails to satisfy even the most rigorous Smiths purists.

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece. This one-night-only fundraising concert version of this modern classic brings to life the story of a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. With an all-star cast of Moonlight favorites, this is an evening you won’t want to miss!

Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic.
