Dear readers, The state of Wisconsin is regularly explored through a black and white lens: the heartland versus the city, left versus right and innovation versus tradition.
LETTER FROM THE EDITOR However, the most impactful stories are found when the people and ideas across our state fuse together. Nearly 6 million people call Wisconsin home — molding together a rich, diverse culture and environment that cultivates both progress and strife. Sometimes we come together and collaborate; other times we collide and clash. Some partnerships and collaborations achieve synergy. They provoke innovation, growth and development that is anchored in our state’s progressive spirit. Other fusions across our state come at a cost. Often, involuntary and coercive encounters expose longstanding injustices and inequities in Wisconsin’s social fabric. But there is much to be learned from these interactions and how they propel our state and its people forward.
We invite you to celebrate and scrutinize the diversity in experience found across our state. This issue of Curb finds unity in the shared and differing experiences of Wisconsinites, examining not how our differences divide us but create the energy to fuse our path forward. Onward and upward, Sophia Vento Editor In Chief

Many of us have grown up in a cultural, social and political landscape where our leaders, mentors and elders have told us our state and world have never been so divided, so broken, so antagonistic. Curb: Fusion does not ignore these fissions. Instead, we highlight this richness in perspective and explore what can happen when we come together.

CURB PHILOSOPHY Nearly 6 million people call Wisconsin home — fusing together a rich, diverse environment that cultivates innovation and progress. Sometimes we come together and collaborate; other times we collide and clash. Curb: Fusion finds unity in the shared and differing experiences of Wisconsinites, examining not how our differences divide us but instead move us forward. 4
OVERVIEW What will you find inside? This issue delves into the intersections of the rich, diverse people and ideas found across Wisconsin. We will highlight fusions found in everyday life, providing a critical look into the forces shaping Wisconsinites’ path forward. Wisconsin moves onward, but some of the solutions making this progress possible are more hard-won than others. Curb: Fusion doesn’t shy away from this fact. Instead, we embrace it — our stories put a spotlight on the difference makers who are creating positive change in their community, whether they’re preserving tradition or transforming the landscape of our state.
Where do we distribute? Curb: Fusion is mailed to University of Wisconsin–Madison alumni across the state, published online at curbonline. com and distributed at Madison-area magazine racks.
Who is our audience?
The print edition of Curb: Fusion will reach approximately 10,000 UW–Madison alumni living in Wisconsin and an additional 3,000 readers through our website. Our readers are typically UW–Madison alumni between the ages of 23 to 40. They are proud graduates of the university who value the power of community and support students’ efforts toward progress on and off campus. Our audience also consists of professionals across the state. Although from diverse backgrounds, this sector shares values aligned with the Wisconsin Idea: the principle that education should influence people’s lives beyond the boundaries of the classroom.

CHOOSING CURB: FUSION Reach your target audience efficiently and effectively Research shows magazines are a highly successful medium for advertising. Almost 60% of adults ages 18 to 49 say magazine ads fit well with the content, more than other media, according to the MPA Media Factbook.
Motivate customers to act More than half of magazine readers act on advertisements they see in publications. Engagement is driven further by the combination of print and digital ads placed on the magazine’s website.
Reach an audience beyond our subscribers Magazines have a high pass-along rate, meaning that at least two people will read each magazine copy. Additionally, they are one of the most permanent forms of media, so your advertisement in Curb: Fusion will continue reaching audiences even after publication. As of 2021, more than 220 million adults read magazines, according to the MPA Media Factbook.
Turn your audience into influencers Compared with users of other media, magazine readers are more likely to facilitate word-of-mouth advertising and influence family and friends to purchase products in various categories, according to the MPA Media Factbook.
