ABOUT ME
NICOLE RODRIGUEZ VASQUEZ ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER
Undergraduate architecture thesis student graduating in May 2022 seeking a fulltime designer position, interested in gaining experience in various project types. With experiences in multi-family and senior living design, I have been exposed to design development, thorough code analysis, construction documentation, woodframe construction and solving design-solutions to effectively submit projects for permitting. I care about the bigger picture when designing and also about the smaller details, it all reflects how I perceive the world around me as a designer.

A BALANCED HOME Creating balconies that are extensions of hallways from the main living areas became one of the main understandings gathered from Chinese Siheyuan homes. Pathways and alternative routes became a driving force for circulation in the design of the home. Fluid distinctions and balance of public and private spaces are design features that were crucial to the concept of the Mui Haus, providing the family with flexibility for the public and maintaining privacy.

A NEW WORKPLACE MIXED-USE OFFICE + URBAN FARM 2020 | 3RD YEAR - SPRING STUDIO
SITE: ATLANTA, GEORGIA
A New Workplace integrates the transition of the flow of people through one considerable diagonal force extracted from the existing site. This move provides an angular ordering system which allows for the collision of circulation, mass and program to create a dialogue between the contemporary workplace and public space within a city. STAYING ROOTED Representing intersectionality through circulation of site by use of existing forces (of accesibility) via sidewalks and main roads as primary construction lines to dictate a sense of networking among the site. While also providing resources for non-profit organizations and marginalized communities, Stitched on Tenth gives identity through shelter for women, refugees, and LGBTQ+. The energy parasol became a mark of identity as a landmark but also a critical means for the community center to be energy self-sufficient

IN-BETWEEN AFFORDABLE HOUSING
2020 | 4TH YEAR - INTEGRATIVE STUDIO
SITE: ATLANTA, GEORGIA
In-Between is an affordable housing project designed to mediate between the public and private realm within an urban context. As a way to embrace the community, In- Between sits on the site along an axis that develops a meaningful and visual connection directly to the street. The mediator in this case, is the central open courtyard which is located along that axis which differentiates between public and private conditions. PROGRAMS USED: REVIT PHOTOSHOP ILLUSTRATOR LUMION

UPLIFTING A COMMUNITY Located in Atlanta in an underdeveloped neighborhood, In-Between focuses on being a “hub” that provides accesiblity to food for not just residents but for the neighborhood as a whole. It is this accesibility to food which creates programs like a Farmer’s Market, Communal Kitchen and Food Hall that can be shared by all. Utilizing a diagonal axis, this axis serves as the distinction between what becomes the private and public realm on site.

[RE]-CONNECTING SWEET AUBURN RE-GENERATIVE URBAN DESIGN 2021 | 4TH YEAR - URBAN LAB STUDIO
SITE: ATLANTA, GEORGIA HISTORIC SWEET AUBURN
[RE]-Connecting Sweet Auburn reinforces the idea of providing programs and resources to bring the community together and give them things to do. By activating the community with strategies that embrace arts, food, culture we hope to maintain the bright community here while also adding a level of density and historical significance. PROGRAMS USED: RHINO PHOTOSHOP ILLUSTRATOR LUMION

EMBRACING HISTORY By extending the Freedom Park Trail into Sweet Auburn, we are able to reconnect Sweet Auburn through a stitch that facilitates activity for the community. Along the way in the trail, people are able to access the activities provided in each hub (arts, business, culture) designated to the site. By use of intentional green spaces, incorporating pocket parks in alley-ways allows to mitigate potential threats. Inclusive way-finding markers that speak to the rich culture and history of Sweet Auburn will be placed on crosswalks and buffers in the entrance to each hub.
