Give the gift of your time this Christmas
Volunteering is a powerful way to make a difference, not just in the lives of others, but also in your own.
Street Angels are in Putney on Friday evenings from 10pm to 3am. They provide assistance to those in need, ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals and aim to reduce violence against women and girls. We would love to expand our team of volunteers to be able to be out on Saturday evenings also. Suggested commitment is one night a month and full training and uniform is provided. If this is something that interests you please email streetangels@positivelyputney.co.uk for more information.
Putney is home to various charity shops that would appreciate your time this Christmas, helping them raise money for important causes.
Volunteering offers you a chance to gain new experiences, meet new people, and develop valuable skills, all while supporting a cause that matters to you.
Make it your 2025 new year resolution to become a volunteer!
Films made in Putney
Putney is often used for filming. Over the years you may have spotted familiar landscape in Minder, Sweeney, Family Affairs, Prime Suspect, Poirot, Miss Marple, New Tricks, Silent Witness, and Jack Whitehall Travels with my Father.
The most famous film is Love Actually (2003) which follows the lives of eight couples in dealing with their love lives. These interrelating tales are all set during the frantic month before Christmas in London. The scene in which multiple storylines come together is the school Christmas concert which was filmed in Elliott School in Putney, now renamed Ark Putney Academy.
More recently you may have spotted residential roads from Putney in the Netflix series Baby Reindeer. The story centres on struggling comedian Donny Dunn’s (Gadd) strange and layered relationship with a woman named Martha (Jessica Gunning), whose initially friendly demeanour unravels as she begins to stalk Donny relentlessly.
A blast from the past, Four in the Morning (1965) was filmed and set in Putney. The film follows the dramatic result of two couples in a crisis and their mysterious connection to a drowned women found in a river. This film famously stars a young Dame Judi Dench and is perfect for fans of her more recent work.
