Niche is based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, and since 2009 has been dedicated to providing the global snowboard community with a quality product whose environmental impact is lessened by thoughtful design, conscious material selection and the desire to craft quality snowboards. We believe snowboarding and creativity go hand-in-hand, and are passionate about making boards that are lighter, snappier and more durable than most traditionally constructed decks.

At Niche Snowboards, we’ve changed the way we think about the relationships between our materials, our environment, and ourselves. We firmly believe that small steps, when multiplied by many people, can change the world.

Bottom line, what makes us different is our passion for quality, good design, and making the most environmentally conscious snowboards in the industry. We’re certainly not perfect, but we continually strive to be better, and hope our success will inspire change in the snowsports industry and lead to good things for you and the planet we all share.

For the past several years, we have worked tirelessly to bring our initial vision and goals to life. To prove that it was possible to make more sustainably built snowboards.

To push the boundaries of environmentally friendly construction. And to continue to push ourselves forward, knowing that we can continue to do better.

In the time since we started, we have seen the influence of our efforts reflected on the snowboard industry, we brought the world’s first zero-waste snowboards to the market, and we have even bigger plans leading into a new year of business.

At Niche Snowboards, our goal from day one has been to create quality snowboards using environmentally conscious materials and manufacturing practices. We believe in transparency, and that we can always continue to be better. As we go into our tenth year as a company, it’s time we bring ourselves to the next level, and into a new era of design, business, and manufacturing. We are excited to announce a new factory partnership with all of you, that allows us to finally bring our groundbreaking Recyclamine® technology to our entire line of products, meaning that every product Niche makes will be zero-waste and fully recyclable! This is an exciting and monumental step forward for us, and will help bring us all into a better future, together.

This season we are honored to have partnered with Keil Manufacturing: a family-owned business with experience making some of the highest quality snowboards for the past 30 plus years.

Keil is a family owned and operated company, who has been producing some of the highest end snowboards on the market for the past 30 plus years. They practice spectacular material and resource management and source all raw materials locally, have exceptional social responsibility, have superior supply chain management capabilities, deliver products on time, recycle sidewall materials in-house with their own extrusion line, recycle all the factory’s water, use all FSC certified wood cores and also make all wood cores in house which ends up providing all heating for the factory, and most importantly, together, we will to continue to push our zero-waste manufacturing technology forward, while exploring many new and exciting sustainability projects.

We feel that this partnership is a match made in heaven, and are beyond thrilled to have found a home with like-minded, passionate people, who share our desire to make choices that lessen our impacts on the planet and preserve the climate we need in order to enjoy snowboarding. Working with Keil gives us the ability to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in snowboard manufacturing, and we are excited to see what we can accomplish, together. For a few years now, we’ve been working relentlessly on a big goal: make snowboard manufacturing a zero-waste process. Get manufacturing waste out of landfills. Get end-of-life snowboards out of landfills. Turn these things into new products by recycling them. Close the manufacturing loop and introduce a true cradle-to-cradle system that works.

HOW DOES IT WORK? the resins within the snowboard can be dissolved and broken apart using a top-secret solution, enabling us to harvest all structural components and materials. these materials can then be recycled, repurposed or upcycled to create other new products like surfboard fins, binding components, or an unlimited array of possibilities!

We are excited to bring 100% recyclable snowboard manufacturing to our entire line of products this season, allowing all manufacturing waste and the product itself to be recycled and repurposed for reuse at the end of its product life cycle. We have teamed up with Connora to apply their Recyclamine® technology into our existing bio-resins to make a groundbreaking shift in snowboard manufacturing, ensuring that nothing we produce ever ends up in a landfill.

By

using the recyclamine ® resin system , it is possible to harvest all the raw materials from snowboard

manufacturing to be repurposed or recycled .

Recyclamine® curing agents are the only epoxy hardeners available that enable full recyclability of thermosetting epoxy resins. This technology provides chemical resistance and mechanical properties similar to conventional, non-recyclable amine-cured epoxies. Flexibility, toughness, and low temperature properties are equal or superior to conventional epoxies.

Our goal was to create a snowboard that maximized performance while synergistically minimizing all impacts on the environment – a 100% recyclable board using environmentally conscious materials and manufacturing practices.

The use of this revolutionary technology provides an end of life solution for snow sports products, and for the waste created during the manufacturing process. We are currently working on creating thoughtful collaborations within the snowsports industry, and look forward to working together to create better manufacturing solutions for us all.

DIGI-PRINT TOPSHEET Most snowboard makers cover their topsheets in a thick, toxic lacquer to add shine. This is not only toxic to the environment; it’s unhealthy for people working in the factory.

Digi-Print uses a lacquer-free topsheet material that’s also thinner than most snowboard topsheets. This cuts down on excess material and makes your board lighter.

We digitally print directly onto the topsheet, cutting up to 60% of the material and 75% of the energy wasted during alternate printing processes.

SNAPPY SAP™ BIO RESIN Traditional resins can be extremely toxic to people and the environment. For our snowboards, we partnered with Entropy Resins to create our one-of-a-kind, Snappy Sap™ Bio-Resin. As opposed to traditional epoxies made primarily of petroleum-based materials, Snappy Sap™ Bio-Resin is composed of bio-renewable materials from the industrial waste streams of the paper pulp and bio-fuels industry.

These natural components help the environment by: • 45% material sourced from sustainable, bio-renewable materials • Lower environmental impact from processing – reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, reduced water and energy consumption, reduced wastes • Eliminates harmful byproducts Snowboard benefits:

BASALT MAGMA FIBER Basalt is the product of volcanic activity. The fiberization process is more environmentally safe than that of glass fiber; the greenhouse gases that might otherwise be released during fiber processing were released eons ago during the magma eruption. Basalt is also 100% inert, which means it has no toxic reaction with air or water, and is noncombustible.

And basalt is much easier to recycle than glass.

• Our Magma Fiber shows 15-20% higher tensile strength than regular fiberglass.

This means better impact absorption, strength, and elasticity.

• Because basalt has a greater strength to weight ratio, less is needed to produce a snowboard. And less material means a lighter board!

• Basalt does not absorb water. So if you chip your topsheet jibbing some gnar, your board will not absorb water and delaminate!

BASALT STRINGERS

SUSTAINABLE WOOD CORES

Stringers are strips of material that change the personality of a board (i.e. giving a board more pop or more stiffness), and are typically made of carbon fiber or another type of wood. Niche has developed a totally new stringer technology using Basalt fiber!

The forests that our wood cores come from are managed carefully to meet the social, economic, ecological, cultural and spiritual needs of current and future generations.

Our wood cores also come from a sustainable source, which means they are replaced by new trees!

Carbon uses lots of energy to process and releases half of its weight in CO2 and other pollutants when manufactured. Basalt is an awesome eco-substitute! Basalt stringers provide similar characteristics to carbon fiber, only they’re made from basalt! They are strong, lightweight, and provide amazing vibration dampening characteristics, giving you a less chattery ride.

Here are some other requirements of our forest management:

RECYCLED MATERIALS Niche uses recycled materials in many components of our snowboard design and production. Such components used in our boards include: • Recycled Base Material • Recycled Steel Edges • Recycled ABS Sidewalls

• No use of hazardous chemicals • No conversion of forests or any other natural habitat • Appropriate management and identification of areas that need special protection (ex. cultural or sacred sites, habitats of endangered animals or plants) • Respect of international workers rights and Human Rights, with particular attention to indigenous peoples • All applicable laws must be followed, with no tolerance for corrupt or questionable business practices

RE CYCLAMINE ® Products using our revolutionary Recyclamine® resin system are able to be fully recycled at the end of their life span and all associated manufacturing waste will be reclaimed and upcycled into new products!

Then suddenly I saw it. With only a slight churning to mark its rise to the surface, the thing slid into view above the dark waters. Vast, Polyphemus-like, and loathsome, it darted like a stupendous monster of nightmares to the monolith, about which it flung its gigantic scaly arms, the while it bowed its hideous head and gave vent to certain measured sounds. I think I went mad then.

Of my frantic ascent of the slope and cliff, and of my delirious journey back to the stranded boat, I remember little. I believe I sang a great deal, and laughed oddly when I was unable to sing. I have indistinct recollections of a great storm some time after I reached the boat; at any rate, I know that I heard peals of thunder and other tones which Nature utters only in her wildest moods.

You know, it takes profound art and profound insight into Nature to turn out stuff like Pickman’s.

Any magazine-cover hack can splash paint around wildly and call it a nightmare or a Witches’ Sabbath or a portrait of the devil, but only a great painter can make such a thing really scare or ring true. That’s because only a real artist knows the actual anatomy of the terrible or the physiology of fear - the exact sort of lines and proportions that connect up with latent instincts or hereditary memories of fright, and the proper colour contrasts and lighting effects to stir the dormant sense of strangeness. I don’t have to tell you why a Fuseli really brings a shiver while a cheap ghost-story frontispiece merely makes us laugh. There’s something those fellows catch - beyond life - that they’re able to make us catch for a second. Doré had it.

Sime has it. Angarola of Chicago has it. And Pickman had it as no man ever had it before or - I hope to heaven - ever will again.

Don’t ask me what they see. You know, in ordinary art, there’s all the difference in the world between the vital, breathing things drawn from Nature or models and the artificial truck that commercial small fry reel off in a bare studio by rule. Well, I should say that the really weird artist has a kind of vision which makes models, or summons up what amounts to actual scenes from the spectral world he lives in.

Anyhow, he manages to turn out results that differ from the pretender’s mince-pie dreams in just about the same way that the life painter’s results differ from the concoctions of a correspondence-school cartoonist.

If I had ever seen what Pickman saw - but no! Here, let’s have a drink before we get any deeper. Gad, I wouldn’t be alive if I’d ever seen what that man- if he was a man - saw!

You recall that Pickman’s forte was faces. I don’t believe anybody since Goya could put so much of sheer hell into a set of features or a twist of expression. And before Goya you have to go back to the mediaeval chaps who did the gargoyles and chimeras on Notre Dame and Mont Saint-Michel. They believed all sorts of things - and maybe they saw all sorts of things, too, for the Middle Ages had some curious phases.

But as I stood in the tower’s topmost chamber, I beheld the horned waning moon, red and sinister, quivering through the vapours that hovered over the distant valley of Banhof. And through an opening in the roof glittered the pale Pole Star, fluttering as if alive, and leering like a fiend and tempter. Methought its spirit whispered evil counsel, soothing me to traitorous somnolence with a damnable rythmical promise which it repeated over and over: “Slumber, watcher, till the spheres Six and twenty thousand years Have revolv’d, and I return To the spot where I now burn.

Vainly I did struggle with my drowsiness, seeking to connect these strange words with some lore of the skies which I had learnt from the Pnakotic manuscripts. My head, heavy and reeling, drooped to my breast, and when next I looked up it was in a dream; with the Pole Star grinning at me through a window from over the horrible swaying trees of a dream-swamp. And I am still dreaming.

Nyarlathotep... The crawling chaos... I am the last... I will tell the audient void...

I do not recall distinctly when it began, but it was months ago. The general tension was horrible.

To a season of political and social upheaval was added a strange and brooding apprehension of hideous and physical danger; a danger widespread and all-embracing, such a danger as may be imagined only in the most terrible phantasms of the night. I recall that the people went about it with pale and worried faces, and whispered warnings and prophecies which no one dared consciously repeat or acknowledge to himself that he had heard. A sense of monstrous guilt was upon the land, and out of the abysses between the stars swept chill currents that made men shiver in dark and lonely places. There was a daemoniac alteration in the sequence of the seasons - the autumn heat lingered fearsomely, and everyone felt that the world and perhaps the universe had passed from the control of known gods or forces to that of gods or forces which were unknown.

Beyond the worlds vague ghosts of monstrous things; half-seen columns of unsanctified temples that rest on nameless rocks beneath space and reach up to dizzy vacua above the spheres of light and darkness.

And through this revolting graveyard of the universe the muffled, maddening beating of drums, and thin, monotonous whine of blasphemous flutes from the inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond Time; the detestable pounding and piping whereunto dance slowly, awkwardly, and absurdly the gigantic, tenebrous ultimate gods - the blind, voiceless, mindless gargoyles whose soul is Nyarlathotep.

In May the insects came, and Nahum’s place became a nightmare of buzzing and crawling. Most of the creatures seemed not quite usual in their aspects and motions, and thier nocturnal habits contradicted all former experience. The Gardeners took to watching at night - watching in all directions at random for something... they could not tell what. It was then that they all owned that Thaddeus had been right about the trees. Mrs. Gardner was the next to see it from the window as she watched the swollen boughs of a maple against a moonlit sky. The boughs surely moved, and there was no wind. It must be the sap.

Strangeness had come into everything growing now. Yet it was none of Nahum’s family at all who made the next discovery. Familiarity had dulled them, and what they could not see was glimpsed by a timid windmill salesman from Bolton who drove by one night in ignorance of the country legends. What he told in Arkham was given a short paragraph in the Gazette; and it was there that all the farmers, Nahum included, saw it first. The night had been dark and the buggy-lamps faint, but around the farm in the valley which everyone knew from the account must be Nahum’s the darkness had been less thick. A dim though distinct luminosity seemed to inhere in all the vegetation, grass, leaves, and blossoms alike, while at one moment a detached piece of the phosphorescence appeared to stir furtively in the yard near the barn.

May the merciful gods, if indeed there be such, guard those hours when no power of the will, or drug that the cunning of man devises, can keep me from the chasm of sleep. Death is merciful, for there is no return therefrom, but with him who has come back out of the nethermost chambers of the night, haggard and knowing, peace rests nevermore. Fool that I was to plunge with such unsanctioned phrensy into mysteries no man was meant to penetrate; fool or god that he was - my only friend, who led me and went before me, and who in the end passed into terrors which may yet be mine.

We met, I recall, in a railway station, where he was the centre of a crowd of the vulgarly curious. He was unconscious, having fallen in a kind of convulsion which imparted to his slight black-clad body a strange rigidity. I think he was then approaching forty years of age, for there were deep lines in his face, wan and hollow-cheeked, but oval and actually beautiful; and touches of grey in the thick, waving hair and small full beard which had once been of the deepest raven black. And when he opened his immense, sunken, and wildly luminous black eyes I knew he would be thenceforth my only friend - the only friend of one who had never posessed a friend before - for I saw that such eyes must have looked fully upon the grandeur and the terror of realms beyond normal consciousness and reality; realms which I had cherished in fancy, but vainly sought. So as I drove the crowd away I told him he must come home with me and be my teacher and leader in unfathomed mysteries, and he assented without speaking a word. Afterward I found that his voice was music - the music of deep viols and of crystalline spheres. We talked often in the night, and in the day, when I chiselled busts of him and carved miniature heads in ivory to immortalise his different expressions.

Into the north window of my chamber glows the Pole Star with uncanny light. All through the long hellish hours of blackness it shines there. And in the autumn of the year, when the winds from the north curse and whine, and the red-leaved trees of the swamp mutter things to one another in the small hours of the morning under the horned waning moon, I sit by the casement and watch that star. Down from the heights reels the glittering Cassiopeia as the hours wear on, while Charles’ Wain lumbers up from behind the vapour-soaked swamp trees that sway in the night-wind. just before dawn Arcturus winks rudily from above the cemetery on the low hillock, and Coma Berenices shimmers weirdly afar off in the mysterious east; but still the Pole Star leers down from the same place in the black vault, winking hideously like an insane watching eye which strives to convey some strange message, yet recalls nothing save that it once had a message to convey. Sometimes, when it is cloudy, I can sleep.

Well do I remember the night of the great Aurora, when over the swampplayed the shocking coruscations of the daemon-light. After the beams came clouds, and then I slept.

When a traveller in North Central Massachusetts takes the wrong fork at the junction of the Aylesbury pike just beyond Dean’s Corners he comes upon a lonely and curious country. The ground gets higher, and the brier-bordered stone walls press closer and closer against the ruts of the dusty, curving road. The trees of the frequent forest belts seem too large, and the wild weeds, brambles, and grasses attain a luxuriance not often found in settled regions. At the same time the planted fields appear singularly few and barren; while the sparsely scattered houses wear a surprisingly uniform aspect of age, squalor and dilapidation. Without knowing why, one hesitates to ask directions from the gnarled, solitary figures spied now and then on crumbling doorsteps or on the sloping, rock-strown meadows. Those figures are so silent and furtive that one feels somehow confronted by forbidden things, with which it would be better to have nothing to do. When a rise in the road brings the mountains in view above the deep woods, the feeling of strange uneasiness is increased. The summits are too rounded and symmetrical to give a sense of comfort and naturalness, and sometimes the sky silhouettes with especial clearness the queer circles of tall stone pillars with which most of them are crowned.

Gorges and ravines of problematic depth intersect the way, and the crude wooden bridges always seem of dubious safety. When the road dips again there are stretches of marshland that one instinctively dislikes, and indeed almost fears at evening when unseen whippoorwills chatter and the fireflies come out in abnormal profusion to dance to the raucous, creepily insistent rhythms of stridently piping bull-frogs. The thin, shining line of the Miskatonic’s upper reaches has an oddly serpent-like suggestion as it winds close to the feet of the domed hills amongst which it rises.

It was in the spectral summer when the moon shone down on the old garden where I wandered; the spectral summer of narcotic flowers and humid seas of foliage that bring wild and many-coloured dreams. And as I walked by the shallow crystal stream I saw unwonted ripples tipped with yellow light, as if those placid waters were drawn on in resistless currents to strange oceans that are not in the world.

Silent and sparkling, bright and baleful, those moon-cursed waters hurried I knew not whither; whilst from the embowered banks white lotos blossoms fluttered one by one in the opiate night-wind and dropped despairingly into the stream, swirling away horribly under the arched, carven bridge, and staring back with the sinister resignation of calm, dead faces.

And as I ran along the shore, crushing sleeping flowers with heedless feet and maddened ever by the fear of unknown things and the lure of the dead faces, I saw that the garden had no end under that moon; for where by day the walls were, there stretched now only new vistas of trees and paths flowers and shrubs, stone idols and pagodas, and bendings of the yellow-litten stream past grassy banks and under grotesque bridges of marble. And the lips of the dead lotos-faces whispered sadly, and bade me follow, nor did I cease my steps till the stream became a river, and joined amidst marshes of swaying reeds and beaches of gleaming sand the shore of a vast and nameless sea.

Dazed and frightened, yet not without a certain thrill of the scientist’s or archaeologist’s delight, I examined my surroundings more closely. The moon, now near the zenith, shone weirdly and vividly aobve the towering steeps that hemmed in the chasm, and revealed the fact that a far-flung body of water flowed at the bottom, winding out of sight in both directions, and almost lapping my feet as I stood on the slope.

Across the chasm, the wavelets washed the base of the Cyclopean monolith; on whose surface I could now trace both inscriptions and crude sculptures. The writing was in a system of heiroglyphics unknown to me, and unlike anything I had ever seen in books; consisting for the most part of conventionalized aquatic symbols such as fishes, eels, octopi, crustaceans, molluscs, whales, and the like. Several characters obviously represented marine things which are unknown to the modern world, but whose decomposing forms I had obbserved on the ocean-risen plain.

It is at night, especially when the moon is gibbous and waning, that I see the thing. I tried morphine; but the drug has given only transient surcease, and has drawn me into its clutches as a hopeless slave. So now I am to end it all, having written a full account for the imformation or the contemptuous amusement of my fellow-men. Often I ask myself if it could not all have been a pure phantasm - a mere freak of fever as I lay sun-stricken and raving in the open boat after my escape from the German man-of-war. This I ask myself, but ever does there come before me a hideously vivid vision in reply. I cannot think of the deep sea without shuddering at the nameless things that may at this very moment be crawling and floundering on its slimy bed, worshipping their ancient stone idols and carving their own detestable likenesses on sumarine obelisks of water-soaked granite. I dream of a day when they may rise above the billows to drag down their reeking talons the remnants of puny, war-exhausted mankind - of a day when the land shall sink, and the dark ocean floor shall ascend amidst universal pandemonium.
