Graham Stuart MP Beverley, like every other part of the country, is now preparing for the General Election on Thursday June 8th. I am honoured to have been reselected as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Beverley & Holderness.

I’m asking local people to allow me to continue working hard for the East Yorkshire area for another five years.

At the election the choice is between strong and stable leadership in the national interest with Theresa May and the Conservatives – or weak and unstable coalition government led by Jeremy Corbyn. If we are to get the best possible deal from the EU and have a clean Brexit it is vital that we give Theresa May our backing. Every vote for Theresa May will make our economy more secure and every vote for Jeremy Corbyn will put our security at risk.

The country is coming together, but Westminster is still divided. In recent weeks, Labour have threatened to vote against the

final agreement we reach with the EU. The Liberal Democrats have said they want to “grind” the business of government “to a standstill”. The Scottish National Party say they will vote against Brexit.

We can’t afford to play political games with these decisions.

The choice facing the country at this election is all about leadership. Do we choose strong and stable leadership in the national interest with Theresa May and the Conservatives – or weak and unstable coalition government, led by Jeremy Corbyn.

THE SHERLOCKS Sheffield Arena Saturday 10th June Kings of Leon are set to play Sheffield Arena for the 5th time on Saturday 10th June 2017.

South Yorkshire band, The Sherlocks have announced that they will make their Sheffield Arena debut when they support the rock icons later this year.

2016 saw Kings of Leon release their seventh album WALLS, which went straight to number one in the UK chart. The band was recently nominated for Best International Group at the BRIT Awards and Best International Band at the VO5 NME Awards.

Davidson and bassist Andy have a reputation for their raucous live shows. The Sherlocks were the first unsigned band since Arctic Monkeys to sell out their local venue the Sheffield Leadmill. The band, consisting of two sets of brothers have received great support from the likes of Steve Lamacq, Annie Mac & Huw Stephens.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, is a brand new musical to East Yorkshire. It is based on the highly entertaining film starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin and Beverley Musical Theatre are bringing it to Beverley in June The show revolves around a suave conman living on the French Riviera swindling rich gullible women out of their jewels and money until a new kid on the block comes along and tries to take over his patch.

The story unfolds as they become more and more competitive and they take their eye off the ball with hilarious consequences.

The musical is full of entertaining songs sung by a 30 strong cast. It has a modern musical score played by 8 professional musicians and a very talented cast of principals who play their roles superbly.

Once again the show will be performed at Beverley’s Memorial Hall whilst the Hull New Theatre is being refurbished. It is a great venue for live musical theatre and with a bar serving your favourite tipple, which you can take to your seat, it’s a recipe for a perfect night out.

Tickets are just £10 and can be booked by ringing Beverley Music and Dance on 01482 881584 or calling in to collect tickets at their shop on Norwood Beverley HU17 9EZ. The show runs from Wednesday June 14th to Saturday 17th 7.30pm and a Saturday Matinee at 2.30pm.

One of the scenes in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is based in a casino, so the cast of Beverley Musical Theatre went along to Napoleons Casino in Hull to be shown the rules of roulette and to learn how to be a croupier.

It was a great chance to dress in costume and do some entertaining research.

PROPERTY COLUMN Why should I chose you to sell my home all agents are the same?

In a recent article from in ‘why property works’, it was suggested that ‘The best agents will be generous with their knowledge to and help you understand their marketplace’.

By providing information about the different aspects of the market this enables you to develop your own viewpoint of the market to determine your best options.

Therefore, by adopting this philosophy the following are 3 points of information about the market and present a view of the situation.

Firstly, the following table shows the average property values over the past 12 months across England and Wales using Dataloft and Land Registry data.

This shows that values are approximately £30,000 higher in the Beverley area than the Yorkshire and Humber region. But these values continue to be below the values of England and Wales.

Therefore, it can be suggested that this information demonstrates that Beverley appears to be relatively inexpensive compared national to England and Wales.

Secondly by looking at the number of transactions within the Beverley area it is possible to gauge what the market is doing. The following graph is the number of house sale transactions in Beverley compared to the previous year. The Red bars show the number of transactions in the previous month whilst the Grey bars show the number of transactions 12 months earlier – source Dataloft and Land Register.

This suggests that the number of transactions since August 2016 is lower than the previous year. It is possible to suggest several different reasons for this; however, it can be suggested this represents impact of Britex. Furthermore, it can be suggested that the recent call for an election will also influence the number of transactions. Within the newspapers, it is possible to read conflicting advice regarding the merits of selling before or after the election result.

Finally, the Council of Mortgage Lenders suggests that First Time Buyers are starting to get a foot on the property ladder with estimates that 29% of them had help towards their deposits from family and friends - which should impact on the number of transactions.

Returning to the initial question, some agents may focus on 1 or 2 pieces of information. A good agent will not only use local knowledge and promote positive relationships plus but will unravel your specific requirements for you to achieve the best outcome. So, no not all agents are the same!

Are you enjoying the excitement of being the City of Culture? The city seems to have a real buzz. Here at Marion Owen Travel we wanted to join in with the activities but as our business is travelling away from home thought it was not possible. UNTIL... we did a walking tour around Hull with Paul Schofield. Anyone taking part in one of his walks will know the wealth of knowledge he has of our city. After walking the city’s sights for over 2 hours we where feeling worn out! That is when I remembered Paul doing a tour around Hull by coach for one of our ABTA regional meetings some years ago and know this is something coach tours coming to Hull partake in. Why should we miss out because we live here? This is a way that you can learn interesting facts about Hull from the comfort of a coach. Paul will be doing his first tours around the city on 6th June leaving from our office10.30am or 1pm.We live in a great city why not come along and find out more.

At this time of year Lynne and I are busy checking out ships. The Rivers ships come out after their winter maintenance and many cruise ships arrive in the UK following cruising further away. This past month we have seen four River ships for the first time, this ensures you know exactly what standard and style of ship you are booking. All ships viewed where in the super city of Amsterdam. There must have been around 60 river ships all moored up and ready for the summer season, it really was a sight.

Amsterdam is a great city to visit, it has such a lot to offer and can easily be visited for a day on a dash aboard North Sea Ferries sailing from our own port of Hull. If you are looking for museums there is a super choice including “The Hermitage Amsterdam” you will be spoilt for choice. I had a memorable visit to Ann Franks House and just love walking the canals with their wonderful house boats and super cobbled streets and wonky old buildings. For a leisurely tour of the city you can take to the water and enjoy a canal cruise with commentary. There is a great choice when it comes to shopping and eating. Amsterdam is also renowned for its red light district. Many attractions are within walking distance of the Central Station too so all you require is a good map and a watch to make sure you are back on the coach in good time to return to the ship.

In the UK if you visit Scotland, Wales or one of our many offshore islands you get the feel of being far from home. Yet you still use the same currency and even if you can hear another language they also speak English.

Cottingham: Worth a visit?

MINDING THE MINSTER

When my mother received her First Holy Communion in 1950 at age 6, she was following the Roman Catholic tradition of not eating anything beforehand so that the Body of Christ was the first thing to break the fast on a Sunday. That morning of her First Communion, she accidentally swallowed some toothpaste and for a long time afterwards was convinced she was therefore going to Hell, since the toothpaste technically broke her fast instead of Jesus. She didn’t dare tell anyone!

It was unfortunate that the ritual of the Communion ceremony overshadowed the deeper meaning and symbolism of what she was doing, but then again, she was only 6. It wasn’t until years later that she was able to put that incident into proper perspective.

In the Church of England, and here at Beverley Minster, a person’s Confirmation Service is when they decide to take responsibility for the religious declarations made on their behalf by their godparents at their Baptisms. The candidates are generally older than my mother was, and while there is still a set form and function to the service, steeped in history and tradition, the candidate is more aware of the symbolism of the service and how it will affect their lives. At Confirmation the candidate renews the decisions and promises to turn toward Christ, receives the sign of the cross on the forehead with oil from the Bishop, and then receives their First Holy Communion. They know that the ceremony is a public acknowledgment of their journey as a Christian, which is more important than the ceremony itself.

On Sunday the 4th June during the 10.30am Holy Communion Service we will be welcoming and encouraging new Confirmation candidates on their journeys with Jesus. Hopefully the fear of swallowing a bit of toothpaste will be the furthest thing from their minds as they take this precious step!

Hull & East Riding Mumbler News Summer is well and truly on the way and we’ve been enjoying getting out and about again this month to some of our favourite outdoor places. We have a great selection of parks and outdoor spaces in our area, there’s a list on Mumbler in the Days Out section.

Coming up this month for families is International Hanse Day on 13th May around the High Street in Hull (Museums Quarter). I’m looking forward to taking my kids to this one as it’s a recreation of a medieval marketplace, so it sounds fun and educational! On 20th May there is the Beach Clean at Hessle Foreshore (pictured below) organised by The Deep, they are looking for volunteers to go along and help out.

The City of Culture team have another fabulous line up this half term as part of the Back to Ours events. These are children’s shows and films put on in local communities around Hull from as little as £2.50 per show from 30th May to 4th June. Venues being used are Kingswood Academy, North Point Shopping Centre, Winifred Holtby Academy, The Freedom Centre, Archbishop Sentamu Academy, William Gemmell Club, Hymers College and Sirius Academy West, Full details and tickets are on the Hull2017 website.

At the end of the school holiday is a festival that I loved last year, Assemble Fest is the annual festival to celebrate the Avenues in Hull and it runs along Newland Avenue on 3rd June. Expect lots of pop up theatre, shows and things for children to do and see.

It’s a short half term for the schools and they are off again for their May half term week from 26th May. And there’s another bank holiday! Some ideas for this bank holiday are to head to our local Country Houses and Gardens. Sledmere has a Yorkshire Festival running on Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday. A short drive across the Humber Bridge into North Lincolnshire is Elsham Hall, they have events across the long weekend with a children’s entertainer and car rally on Bank Holiday Sunday and sheep shearing demonstrations on Bank Holiday Monday. We went to Elsham last month and had a lovely day out (here are my kids eating ice creams and playing with the blossom in front of the carp lake where there are enormous fish to feed!).

Beverley & East Riding Croquet Club... ..invites you to celebrate National Croquet Day on Sunday 4 June, 2-4pm.

This free event is open to all who may be interested in trying an afternoon of croquet. Come to the Norwood recreation ground in Beverley ( HU17 9HT) to learn the basics of this intruiging game. Wear flat shoes, all other equipment provided.

In Beverley on Bank Holiday Monday there is a family show of magic, history and science at Toll Gavel United Church. ‘Dr Dee’s Daughter and the Philosophers Stone’ is being put on by the National Centre for Early Music. The story is told through puppetry and using giant recorders!

During half term week on 31st May Beverley Racecourse has a Family Raceday, the Half Term Raceday with Hull FC. Cosmo’s Vegan Mushroom and Pumpkin Seed Risotto

Ingredients 50g Finely chopped onions 50g Finely chopped celery 150g Button mushrooms 30ml Good quality virgin olive oil 30g Pumpkin seeds 150ml Dry white wine 100ml Strong made up vegan vegetable stock 200g Pre cooked Arborio rice 50g Fresh baby spinach Sea salt and black pepper to taste Pinch of fresh parsley Cold water Method: Heat olive oil in a frying pan, add onions, celery and button mushrooms.

Fry until soft and golden.

Add pumpkin seeds and fry for a further minute.

Add dry white wine frying for a further minute to de-alcoholise.

Add pre-cooked Arborio rice and stock.

Allow to bubble, adding cold water as needed, to achieve a creamy, sticky consistency.

Fold in baby spinach.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Add fresh parsley and serve immediately.

(For speed we cook our risotto rice in advance using diced onions and a small amount of olive oil. 250ml of Arborio rice will require 500ml of water and 20g of diced onions).

As things stand there is a two point gap between Hull City and Swansea City with three games to go. Whether City will retain their place in the Premier League is an open question.

Out hearts say yes and we deserve it on home form but two points out of the past forty eight available away from home tells its own story. To survive Hull City may require 3 points from away fixture at Crystal Palace.

Everyone expects 3 points from the home game against Sunderland but reaching 36 points may not be enough so further points are required from the remaining away game or title chasing Spurs in the final home game. The fact we are still mulling over points totals and survival owes so much to Marco Silva - however as no one gave us a hope on New Years Day.

East Stand Views...

It comes as no surprise that Marco Silva has now attracted International attention for his success in the Premier League. Our current home form puts City in the top ten across Europe, the national media love him, potentially English teams could be chasing him and even Inter Milan have been linked with Silva. Whether he keeps City up or not he could have bigger fish to fry next season. He came here with a team of coaches to try to make an impression in the most high profile competition in Europe and Hull City have provided the opportunity to showcase his talents. His contract runs out in May but City have a clause to extend it another season if he staves off relegation. It may require much more than a contractual clause to keep him though, maybe £50 million to spend for instance. To sign up the current loan players, complete the ill fated Salibur deal and add extras could cost this amount.

Added to this contracts need to offered to the likes of Hernandez, Maguire, Robertson and Tymon to keep them out of the clutches of others. Either the Allams back him or a takeover is completed soon after the season is concluded to keep him,

the loan players and our star players. If we survive he will require backing but if we go down he will move on to another Premier League or elsewhere.

Hull City could lose their management team, star players currently without long term contracts and loan players who currently comprise half of our first team. Let’s not go down this road at the moment. The one big difference to the current situation and the position faced by the Allam’s following the relegation of Phil Brown’s team is that we appear to have some decent young players coming through. The Academy team reached a national cup final last season and took West Ham to extra time whilst four or five have reached the first team squad or gone onto to become first team regulars on loan elsewhere. We do not want to see these players as the basis of our future squad but at least there are some home grown players to call upon if things should go pear shaped both on the pitch and off field over the next six months.

Fans will also be heartened that the Premier League are examining the club’s

membership scheme. City must have lost 2000 fans this season since the implementation of this plan and many more may not renew irrelevant of which league we are in. This is tragic. The future of the club depends on attracting young fans and the club must recognise the years of support by senior citizens. To charge both young and old the same price as an adult breaks Premier League rules so let us hope concessions are forced upon the club’s pricing structure. If we go down its back to square one as the FA will no doubt take months to start their investigations. The sad thing is that the membership scheme, name change proposals, hostility to the council, removal of community sports from the Gemtec arena and regarding fans as an irrelevant has cost so many fans. To contemplate the closure of West Stand upper is unbelievable for a Premier League team but so many have been priced out or lost interest. Let’s just hope the Allam’s have now managed to reclaim some of their investment in the club and they take up any offers in the summer holiday. Silva may have saved us from the abyss but if we should lose our miracle worker then next season could be one massive struggle.

Please take the money and run and let someone take over our Premier League team and financially back Marco Silva.

Let’s not contemplate any other scenario than the Great Escape Mark II.

I set up Bundles of Joy in November 2016 following my role as an Antenatal Educator and a Doula.

Tell us about your family?

I am very lucky to be married to Mark and we have 3 children. Jack 14, Katy 8 and Freddie 6. We also have a crazy dog Ted and 2 cats Meg and Mog. What do you do in your spare time?

What’s spare time?? In any spare time I have I like nothing better than just relaxing with Mark and the kids, I just love being at home however I do love to go on holiday, a sun lounger is my ideal place!

How would you describe Beverley to a visitor?

Fabulous, I just love it. Its family orientated, friendly and very pretty. We have so much on the doorstep. Mark and I were very lucky to marry in the Beverley Minster in 2009 which has to be the focal point of the town.

What do you like most about Beverley?

What I like is that we have pretty much everything we need here in Beverley. It’s nice to be able to walk into the town and pop to the market, wonder about always seeing people you know. I love the community spirit the town portrays.

If you could have dinner with anyone (alive or dead) who would it be and why?

My Grandma and Grandad were my world when I was growing up and we were very close, I adored them. They were very influential in my life, although I don’t bake or sew like Grandma wanted me to. They both died not far apart of each other in 2oo5 and 2006. I would love for them to see the children and see how happy I am.

They would be thrilled. There’s not many days that go by when I don’t think of them.

I would also love to have a beer with Ant and Dec too, how much fun would that be?

What is your favorite food?

I have a few, I love a good steak and salad as well as a tasty curry and pizza too. One of my down falls though has to be liquorice.

When did you last go to the cinema and what did you see?

Freddie, my youngest, was 6 recently and we had a birthday trip to Flemingate Cinema to see Boss Baby. I have to say it was good, great to see a film that appeals to adults and children too.

Briefly explain your working day and what your job entails?

Despite the many hours and dedication I give to Bundles of Joy I don’t see it as a job, probably because I don’t get paid. However, I do see it as making a difference and that in itself is my reward.

As well as running the charity I’m a busy mum/taxi service of 3 children.

I take Katy and Freddie to Walkington School and pick them up each day, Jack walks as he’s at Grammar School. I always try to ensure the house is tidy too as I do have slight OCD when it comes to being tidy, since the charity though my cleaning regime has changed as I don’t have as much time!! I do enjoy my daily walk with Ted on a morning, this gives me chance for some fresh air and to plan my day.

Most of the daily duties though are all based around meeting and liaising with health professionals and other agencies and charities. Looking at funding opportunities, attending team meetings, doing collections of donations and sorting through them, responding to emails and messages, bundling, washing, ironing and general admin work.

I am lucky that Mark likes to cook so tea tends to be his job if he’s not working away or late home.

What do you love most about your job?

It has to be knowing that what started out as a small idea one chilly Sunday November evening has now grown to be a charity that’s talked about and recognised. Recently I have been nominated for Charity Mum of the Year through Biz Mums and as part of that I have obtained some feedback from the health professionals. Let’s just say each of them made me cry and feel very proud. Bundles of Joy is helping to make a difference. I say ‘help’ because together as a community we can help. Unfortunately, we can’t change things, we can’t stop crisis, we can’t stop domestic abuse and child neglect but we can try to help in these dreadful, heart breaking situations and circumstances.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?

Not too far away from where I am now. I am happy, I’m very lucky, I have a wonderful supportive husband 3 beautiful children, loving family and fabulous friends and long may all that continue. However, I would love to see the Mission and Vision of Bundles of Joy rolled out across many counties. I would love for it to be nationwide and reaching as many people as it can. If we can support and give parents the tools to help their children have the best starts they are more likely to achieve in life. They are more likely to feel valued and that people care, surely this has to be a good thing and something to work towards!

Solutions for last month

Free compost give aways begin on 9 May East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s annual compost giveaways will begin soon.

Around 5,000 bags of compost will be given away free to East Riding residents at 10 events across the area, starting in Market Weighton on Tuesday 9 May.

LOCAL NEWS The giveaways end when all the bags have been handed out on a first come first served basis. Residents are asked not to queue at the venues beforehand or they may be turned away for safety reasons.

The dates for the compost giveaways are as follows: Tuesday 9 May 4pm – Market Weighton, Market Car Park, YO43 3AJ Saturday 13 May 10am – Beverley, Beverley Council depot, Annie Reed Road, off Grovehill Road and Beck View Road, HU17 0LF Tuesday 16 May 4pm – Hornsea, Broadway Car Park, HU18 1PZ

Residents are invited to go along to their local event to collect two free 15kg bags of compost per car, which will be placed in their vehicles by council staff.

All the compost being given away was recycled from the food and garden waste residents put in their brown bins. That including grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, small branches, leaves, flowers and weeds, all cooked and uncooked food, peelings, plate scrapings, bones, meat and egg shells.

Mike Featherby, the council’s head of Streetscene Services, said: “We’ve been running our compost giveaways for a number of years as a gesture of thanks to residents for their efforts in recycling their rubbish.

“The East Riding is now the second best authority in the whole of England for its recycling rate and that’s down to the support of residents.”

The giveaways start at 4pm at each site, except the Beverley event which starts at 10am.

GARDENING

Gardening with children Children can become easily discouraged, so it is very important to make their first gardening experiences positive and fruitful. Using 20 Plants, Seeds and Herbs from our lists below should ensure a successful first experience in the garden.

Plants

1. Primrose, Primula vulgaris; a spring wildflower that comes in a variety of colours. Great for planting in pots and containers.

2. Wild strawberry, Fragaria vesca; children will love hunting for the small, sweet, delicious fruit.

3. Bellflower, Campanula medium ‘Canterbury Bells’; a blue, white or lavender, summer-flowering plant.

4. Pansy, Viola; the cheery face of the pansy is a popular choice for an abundance of both summer and winter colour. Ensure you deadhead them regularly.

5. Crane’s-bill, Geranium; grown for its white, pink, blue or purple saucer-shaped flowers and its dense foliage, which is great for keeping down the weeds. Not to be confused with the summer-bedding plant pelargonium, which is often referred to as geranium.

6. Lamb’s ears, Stachys byzantina; grown more for its foliage than its flowers. As its name suggests, its downy leaves resemble the ears of a lamb.

7. Houseleek, Sempervivum; a rosette-forming succulent that produces flowers on long stems. It is a great plant for dry areas of the garden.

8. Lavender, Lavandula; a familiar garden favourite, producing white, pink, blue or purple aromatic flowers during the summer months.

Flowers and foliage are often used for making pot-pourri.

9. Lady’s Mantle, Alchemilla mollis; produces greenish yellow flowers from June to August. Provides good ground cover.

10. Forget-Me-Not, Myosotis; pretty clusters of small flowers in either

blue, white or pink. They love well-drained soil.

Seeds

11. Runner Beans, Phaseolus coccineus; water well in dry weather, otherwise the plants will not produce beans.

12. Radish, Raphanus sativus; a great starter vegetable for kids because as well as being easy to grow, the colourful roots are ready for eating within a month of sowing.

13. Sweet Pea, Lathyrus odoratus; sow seeds outdoors in March to May for blooms in June/July/Aug. Pick the flowers regularly to encourage more growth.

14. Marigold; French or African Tagetes; plant out in early summer for beautiful yellow and orange blooms until autumn.

15. Pot Marigold, Calendula officinalis; plant a pinch of seeds in March or September and you will be rewarded with a mass of flowers in about 10 weeks.

The petals can be eaten in salads!

16.Lettuce, Lactuca sativa varieties; lettuces can be grown all-year-round; simply choose from the many varieties to ensure you have a crop for every season.

Seeds, once sown, should begin to sprout within 12 days.

Herbs

17. Spearmint, Mentha spicata; mint will thrive in most soils, to the extent that it can easily become a nuisance. To avoid this, try growing it in a container on the patio. Use the leaves to flavour new potatoes and peas.

18. Rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis; this pretty herb produces blue flowers and has highly-scented, needle-like leaves. Plant in a sunny, sheltered area of the garden.

19. Thyme, Thymus vulgaris; grow thyme in a well-drained, sunny area of your garden. The leaves of this evergreen herb can be picked throughout the year. Their distinctive taste goes well with a variety of dishes.

20. Chives, Allium schoenoprasum; grow in moist soil and full sun.

For a regular supply of delicious leaves for your salads cut off the flowers before they open.

Smaller Chocolate Bars

You probably heard last month that chocolate bars and sweets will soon be a third smaller after a major push from Public Health England for the food industry to cut 20% of sugar from the main snacks and foods that children eat in order to tackle obesity. There are 2 things that strike me here. One is that for years now the chocolate bars I remember 20 years ago, like Mars Bars, Double Deckers (a personal favourite!) and Boosts have already been getting progressively smaller and more expensive. You used to get a normal sized bar, a treat size and a fun size. Now ‘normal’ bars are shorter and thinner and more like a treat size - and they’re going to produce them a third smaller?

I take my chocolate very seriously and if I want to buy a chocolate bar I want to feel like I’ve eaten one!

Which brings me to my second point. Will the sweet manufacturers reduce the price of the chocolate bar by a third because we are buying a smaller product? No, I don’t think so! I have no objection to tackling obesity. It’s a big problem. I’m just not convinced this is the way to do it. Educating children about eating healthily is the key and, as my father used to say, “Moderation in everything.”

Heads Together

I have been incredibly impressed with the Heads Together campaign set up by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. Hearing them talk so openly about mental health will certainly help to end the stigma attached to it.

After Prince William’s FaceTime chat with Lady Gaga and Prince Harry’s podcast about his own struggles following his mother’s death, calls to mental health helplines went through the roof, many callers saying that hearing their stories gave them the push they needed to finally talk about what issues they had. There is a shift in public opinion about mental health and people need to know that it’s OK to talk without fear of judgement.

Clever Cat

I have written before about my cats and the fact that one of them simply refuses to use the cat flap. Well, unfortunately, I can’t report that anything has changed there. He still scratches at the door to be let in, has a quick bite to eat and 2 minutes later he’s scratching to go out again. Frustrating is not the word! Anyway, he has a new trick! He comes into the bedroom anywhere between 2 and 4 in the morning, gets up onto his back feet and slams the door shut to wake us up, then starts scratching to be let out again! The thing is, when you go downstairs, bleary-eyed, to let him out, he goes through a 10 minute routine of rolling around the floor for a stroke and having something to eat before finally going out, by which time you are wide awake, in a bad mood and can’t go back to sleep. I’ve never been one to lock my cats out in the laundry at night, but I am really thinking about changing my mind on that!
